6ft1 defender with championship experience. Sounds like a Parky signing, know nowt about him. He says he can play right back or right wing back. Which fits.

I remember reading about Mark Little being released in the Bristol Evening Post a few weeks ago. I wondered then if he was a player we might go for, but we seemed to be linked with MacMahon and Darby from Bradford, not to mention Morais.

The impression I get is that Bristol City fans see him as a good character, good athlete, good servant to the club, not great technically, and he was released despite some good performances in good team performances at the end of the season which got them to safety in the Championship after going on a horrible run that looked like it was going to get them relegated. They have a couple of young prospects at right back, and are linked with one time BWFC loanee Saidy Janko who played for Barnsley last season on loan from Celtic.

So Little is perhaps a top of L1, lower end Championship player, who will probably be on relatively low wages, and might be regarded as cover or at least in competition for/with Morais or another right back signing.

I notice there is already a thread on their main fans forum. Mixed views thus far but not the worst from our pov:

To be honest I'm far more interested in Parly's view of a player than that of the supporters of a previous club. I seem to recall Wigan know-nowts having Andy Taylor down as being not fit to burn.

I thought the story was we can't sign anyone on more than 10kpw. We've wheat signed Taylor and ALF don't forget.

Can't say I've ever heard of Little, but that's one RB down.

Like the idea of signing a team player rather than a random flair player like the City guy. Parky has put team spirit and togetherness amongst the lads and that's what we need to keep. If Morais and Sammi A could be brought in, that's flair enough. Keep the team game together.

There's no particular reason to suggest that a flair player can't be just as much of a team player as any other type; being creative doesn't necessarily have to mean that you're incapable of also putting a shift in. We're going to need more than Ameobi and Morais if we're to survive at this level in my opinion, and we're particularly going to need someone who can pose a threat through the middle, so in that regard it's a shame that he hasn't come to us.

Not sure as to how come you have flair players and team players down as being somehow mutually exclusive. Last season Morais was the epitome of a team player. You should have seen what it meant to him when the full time whistle went against Chesterfield, and, bear in mind he was, from that point forward, out of a job.

I think the issue is we need extra quality in midfield creatively, and in forward areas. It was where we were most lacking last year especially post January and the step up will only accentuate that. Those players with the quality to produce at championship level don't come cheap and that is where I'd like to see us invest. Looks like it might be a struggle to do so though.

As a priority IMO is creativity, flair & pace in midfield

We will struggle if we have the same midfield as last season - we need a couple of decent championship level creative midfielders

Somewhere. Certainly out wide we need that. I think Karacan, Spearing and Vela are a decent midfield if Spearing signs. But we need players wide of them who can create and take the opposition on. Ideally a centre forward too who offers more of that in his game than the two we've got.

I am hoping Karacan helps - he seemed pretty mobile when he did start for us. And assuming we are signing Spearing you are looking at improving the wide areas or the attackind midfield role...which Josh Vela surely is due a go in?

For me I would be comfortable with a 4231 using the above, hopefully signing Ameobi. Then its Alf. Madine and Morais potentially. There was goals in that combination when fit last year.

I quite like the idea of signing a quick striker and attacking player, probably on loan from one of the clubs that hoovers up all the talent. Deffo need some more pace on the books.

Wonder if we have any more coming through the academy who might make a debut this year?

Will Buckley, anyone?

Will be out of contract with Sunderland on 30th June. Played last season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday until bad shoulder injury curtailed his season. Winger with a Championship pedigree and only 27
Pfffft.

Don't know if it's been mentioned by Mark Little played in the Wolves team that reached the semis of the 2005 Youth Cup, captained by Mark Davies (also featuring Wayne Hennessey and Brum's Ireland international Stephen Gleeson)

Speaking of old mates, Tony McMahon - another right-back/RWB mentioned in dispatches – played 54 games in the same Boro team as Wheater, 33 in the same team as Taylor.

Looks like Proctor's on his way to either Rotherham (most likely) or Donny.

Good stuff. He isn't very good, we get some cash for him and it frees up a space. What's not to like?
