Re: The Promotion Commotion Transfer Thread 2017
Starting to look a bit desperate this quality wise. Going forward Buckley is a welcome addition. But for me we are still a defensive midfield player short. An attacking midfield player short. Two wingers short (at least one left sided) and two strikers short.
In that list of needed additions there needs to be some real quality. But looks a struggle right now. Ameobi wants too much. As does Spearing. Any decent striker costs money. And we are still in embargo with according to Iles no real sign of any agreement between Ken and Dean and Blumarble.
As of Monday it is possible that Blumarble could own sports shield bwfc and their proportion of shares in the club. A fecking business equivalent of payday loans owning part of the club. Makes me shudder.
Feels like unless that is resolved quickly and very positively (which seems unlikely) that we will not be in this league long. We cannot compete with what others are doing up here in embargo with no secure long term funding and no real ability to plan.

Doesn't Parky deserve a little more faith and respect? I think so. We're also around six weeks away from the start of the season.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Fri Jul 07, 2017 9:40 amStarting to look a bit desperate this quality wise. Agreed. With a decent organised manager in charge there will at least 3 below us even with last year's team. I'm just confident that Parky will get enough out of even a poor squad to stay up. Can't imagine it will be remotely pretty but needs must until we have a decent ownership situation sorted.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Fri Jul 07, 2017 11:07 amDoesn't Parky deserve a little more faith and respect? Not questioning Parky for one second. It is his ability to bring the quality in as defined by those running the club I'm questioning. Think Parky knows what is needed but is he being given the tools to get it?Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Fri Jul 07, 2017 11:07 amDoesn't Parky deserve a little more faith and respect? I think so. Really early days. The transfer window has only been open for a week.
Re: The Promotion Commotion Transfer Thread 2017
Come on Bruce. It has been a full week now since the transfer window opened and contracts expired. We have only signed two players in that time. Shambles.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Fri Jul 07, 2017 11:07 amDoesn't Parky deserve a little more faith and respect? I think so. We have no money and still in a transfer embargo and yet we haven't bought anyone yet.

And one of those goes by the name of Darby, so that'll excite the boo-boys.

Re: The Promotion Commotion Transfer Thread 2017
Its the fact we have huge gaps in quality in this squad. And are under embargo and still haven't paid all our players what they are owed. Doesn't I still confidence that we can sign the required quality.
Re: The Promotion Commotion Transfer Thread 2017
Spearing won't be re-signing with us as confirmed by the BN, which probably isn't a surprise to anyone. He's owed a debt of gratitude for the part that he played in getting us promoted, and his character would have been very useful to the squad in the situation that we're now in, but now that it's been confirmed that he isn't returning we can hopefully focus our energies on making some pretty quick progress with our other targets.

If he does leave I can't really say I'm that bothered

We're going to struggle to find a better replacement with the size of our budget.

Quite so, but flipping the coin we find he's had a very comfortable lifestyle, big house, flash car and holidays of the exotic variety to compensate him for it all. Agh, gee, I know I'm old-fashioned in thinking club loyalty come into things any more with everyone...guess not. With the likes of Alexis Sanchez refusing to re-sign unless he gets 400 grand a week...well...que sera..Nicko58 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 08, 2017 12:30 amSpearing won't be re-signing with us as confirmed by the BN, which probably isn't a surprise to anyone. Is he? He was signed for top Dollar as a Premier League player who found his level in the third tier. He may have grand aspirations but the guy needs a reality check. We owe him bog all.Nicko58 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 08, 2017 12:30 amSpearing won't be re-signing with us as confirmed by the BN, which probably isn't a surprise to anyone. Totally agree, I expected so much more than Spearing actually delivered.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Sat Jul 08, 2017 8:14 amIs he? It's an interesting one this. Was club loyalty really much more prevalent amongst players back then, or was it just that clubs had greater control over them?
No doubt the money that has flooded into the game since then has exacerbated such matters, but I don't know whether the players of past generations would still be held in such high regard for their loyalty if the Bosman ruling had been passed fifty years earlier.

I wasn't suggesting that we erect a statue of him, merely that we acknowledge that he made a fairly substantial contribution to us getting out of that league. Perhaps debt of gratitude was the wrong phrase.
As for owing him bog all, I think you'll find that, at the very least, we still owe him a month's wages and a promotion bonus.

Disappointed to see him go, but not overly so. He was earning an awful lot considering our current place in the football pyramid, and refused to drop those demands. I'll be intrigued to see where he ends up next - I'll bet he won't keep his current wage, at least not in the Championship.
