Never mind all that - the TMS Boycott wind-up was the highlight of the day. Radio gold!Worthy4England wrote: ↑Mon Jul 31, 2017 3:03 pmGood all round performance - Couple of debutant's performed creditably well. Roland-Jones with 8 fer, and Westley with a 50 and a pretty good one to get him in the first innings. Think we need to see more of them in the last test and the two against the Windies.

Boycott's face was priceless on the video...
They stitched him right up. It was very clever, how Aggers read the fake press release and then slowly the implications of it dawned on people....would have been easy to make it too obvious.

Jennings gone already. Could be a tough day in these conditions. Let's hope it cheers up.

They'll be renaming "for one" as "for Jennings" as in we're 10 for Jennings. Which is like most teams being none down.

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Jennings is a walking wicket. Not entirely sure how anyone thinks he's an England opener at this point. Only need watch him for a few minutes to see how his technique just looks wrong. He bats like I would.
Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
To be fair to Jennings he looked good in India when making his hundred (albeit he was dropped on 0 I think) and seemed to have a top 3 spot nailed down for a long time. This summer he looks miles off, with poor technique. The most worrying thing is when players keep getting out in the same way - see ballance as another example.
I've genuinely no idea where we go after Jennings. Will this be cooks 15th partner post Strauss? That's actually a good idea to try and name them all.

Though Finn was back in for Wood for this one. What happened to that?

Hameed, Jennings, Compton, root, hales, Compton, lythe, carberry, Robson, moeen
All off the top of my head. Feel free to correct or add to them!
Looking at the list it makes you realise how lucky we were to be so settled with trescothick, Vaughan, Strauss and cook for the best part of 12 years.

I struggle to keep up with Finn. Never seen anyone have such peaks and troughs in form. He can go from one of the best in the world bowling at close to 90mph with pace and bounce, to being 'unselectable' according to his coach. Not sure where on the Steven Finn form curve he is at the moment.
Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Just checked and I've missed 2 from Cook's partners post Strauss. Anyone able to name them?

Malan - not a very good shot to get out to, chasing a proper wide un (Cook overstretched himself looking to reach one that went straight on). Westley, another ball that's shifted a long way from him. Jennings. Playing down the Circle line, ball came down the Bakerloo.

Keep reading Root getting stick for failing to convert 50s. This is the 10th test in a row he's got a 50 (with a test conversion rate of 28%).
Now I appreciate that to win matches you're probably going to need someone to get a big knock along the way, but given who else we have in that team I'm quite happy for Joe to knock 50-100 every time thanks!
Anyway, finely poised this.

260-6 with a wicket going last ball. How are you anaylsing that score in terms of value, pitch weather etc, taken into account?

Nicely set for me to be able to take up the game from the posh seats at O/T tomorrow then.

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
I've been critical of root for his poor conversion rate. Your first hour at the crease is always the hardest, and the fact that he so consistently gets himself in shows the immense talent he has. From 50 onwards it should get a lot easier. I just feel with his talent he should be getting to 3 figures more. 50s are great, but they don't win you matches. Compared to smith / kohli/ Williamson his conversion rate is poor.

I'm happy to drop him for someone better. We're swimming in top order talent at the moment
