Tonight's Football

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

Hart,
Walker, Stones, Cahill, Bertrand.
Dier. (Henderson?).........? .........?
Kane, Rahford.

Fill in the blanks or offer options. Sterling not good enough. Oxlade Chamberlain, not good enough

Overall, tonight we played a team that wanted to beat us (and might have) Our lot, lackadaisical, nonchalent, complacent, unimpressive. International football takes second place to playing in the big bucks league.

Does it balls. Noone of them need the money (which they donate). They're just not very good. A team lacking in quality managed by a c-rate school prefect.

Good job for Harry Kane.

You're arguing for arguing's sake (nothing new there). I already stated we werent very good, but who said anything about them needing the money? I said international football takes second place to league football (ie, the big bucks league, ie their careers. And if they get injured, possibly longterm,( which may well have happened tonight with some of the caveman assaults they call tackling) what then? Are their managers interested in England? Most of the top managers aren't even English anyway.

TD is right though. The passion isn't there. See how teams like Iceland, Greece etc perform with far lesser squads than any England one.

Sure we're miles off the quality of Spain, Italy, Germany. We all know that. But the players don't overperform like smaller nations do. Because ultimately there isn't the passion to play for England. They all pay it lip service. But I see very little real hunger or desire.

Stirling should be binned off, the only time he is effective is when playing against someone with worse vison and less grey matter than him! Greedy dead end tw*t!

10% of English managers in the top two tiers are from Chorley.

Anybody watch the England Germany game? Very respectful Rememberance ceremony with armed services representatives for both countries at the start, lthough I'm baffled why the minute's silence became applause?

Anyway. the game itself was entertaining; well known German players v quite a few names I'll admit not to knowing. One was our Goalie, Pickford, and what a good game he had. Made one terrific save when missing seemed harder than scoring. Jones was playing well in defence before an injury forced him off, but our defence did well generally to keep out a side who are so regimented they could pass their way out of a colander. Stones and Dyer played well, not sure about McGuire yet. I'd still prefer Walker and Rose as our full backs. Trippier looks useful. They had chances, but so did we. Abraham didn't make too much of an impression up front, but Latchford replaced him and did. The Loftus Cheek lad did really well and Vardy's pace was always an asset. All in all, considering our injury situation, a 0-0 draw was no bad result against the Germans. They seem to stick with the same players, not just between internationals, but year to year and are a very good side. We almost nicked it with the last kick of the match, but nobody seemed too upset about the result. I enjoyed the game.

It's been a long time coming but about time the Italians obsession with defence and catenaccio bit them on the arse

They're adopting the entitlement attitude and can't accept that they are no different then any other country when you don't play well enough to qualify. This isn't a sudden death thing but a knockout competition and they..well, got knocked out. Face it and enjoy watching the tournament. Arrivaderci...

Feel a bit sorry for Buffon who has been a tremendous player and seems a real gent.

100%. No time for Italian football generally but a real shame for Gigi. Got to worth a serious think when it comes to greatest keeper of all time.

Absolutely delighted for Sweden who defended in an Allardyce-esque everyone-behind-the-ball style and soaked up waves of pressure.
Italy went from their usual calm and cocky style to playing like a side in the third round.
Hope that they're still celebrating when I'm in Gothenburg next week :)

Drawing with Brazil and Germany in a week is no bad result. Marcello ran the show, along with Neymar who was all over the pitch. Did a great bit of defending in the left back corner. Great display, even thought the South Americans' invented cheating and playacting. We need a Marcello, and to learn to stop ball watching. Very solid defensive display but no real threat up the sharp end (due in no small way to their defensive excellence). You just can't stand waiting for the ball at this level and we still do it (and pxss about something bad on throw ins). Must admit I expected Dr Who to come on from a Tardis when Ashley Young arrived. That said he made a brilliant block within a minute on what looked a certain goal. Shame about Loftus Cheek and I hope it isn't serious. He looks a prospect. I'd prefer Danny Sturridge up front to Abraham and I'll be glad when Kane's fit. Still uncertain about McGuire, but he did okay. Solanke, for the very short time he was on looks promising. Gomez did well, but overall M.O.T.M ? All in all a visible improvement on what we were not long ago.

Chelsea-Norwich is incredible.

Chelsea down to 9, 3 booked for diving. Norwich 90th minute equaliser.

Time for pens. Come on!
