I hate being nervous about a game we aren't even playing in.
Good luck to Barnsley. If we can't see it through it's our own fault. Won't exactly be a record points total required. If we win both games we'll be fine. I suspect a win and a draw also will be fine. Less than that and well, we can only blame ourselves.

I'd rather they lost. But we've put ourselves in this position. We're lucky that nobody in the bottom 3 has as yet really put a run together. Most years they do. Most years on 40 points with 2 to go you'll be almost gone. So we cannot complain about others. We're our own worst enemies.

If we're to stay up lets do it ourselves by winning our last two games. If we can't do that, then frankly we deserve it.

Honourable, but frankly I'll gladly take all the help we can get: a favour from Forest, Barnsley docked two points for McBurnie being an intolerable arsehole, Birmingham forcibly relegated on grounds of accent, whatever. If we survive on 44pts, 43, 42 or even 41 I won't find next season sullied by it. In 2014 Birmingham survived by goal difference on 44pts, then finished in the top 10 for two successive seasons under Gary Rowett; had they snuck into the play-offs, I doubt they'd have declined in accordance with Corinthian values.

I'm not saying that, just that we've had so many favours. Now we have to help ourselves.

I'm struggling to think what those favours are mate? Bad refereeing decisions, losing a shedful of matches, giving away goals in the last minute and added time, etc, etc. Seems like we've been the ones doing the favours?

As in, the sides at the bottom are all doing incredibly badly. 40 points at this stage rarely has you above the drop zone.

We can't complain if we go down on 41/2 points. That sends you down most of the time. Last season didn't Blackburn get 52 and go down?

We're lucky we've still got a shout.

IIRC the average total needed to survive over the last decade is 45pts. That has been dragged up by two or three outliers - Blackburn last year, Peterborough (on 54!) when we finished 7th under Dougie, and one a decade ago - might be Leicester - but hey, averages is averages.

As you say, 40 is very rarely safe. And we've definitely benefited from the crapness of others. Here's to another fortnight of crapness.

45 will be safe too this year.

I saw a bit of the Cardiff v Forest game on Saturday night, and Forest gave Cardiff a really hard game, and were fighting hard to get an equalizer in the final minutes. I hope that is a sign that they are still fighting hard and the players are doing their best to impress Karanka for next season and beyond...

Yep. Tbh I feel we have gone and am not holding out much hope of us winning our way to safety. My hope is we get something at Burton, and that that will be enough...

What we need is a statue by Rodin. Similar to the Thinker but with the bloke having a mard pouting on his lips and both elbows planted on knees and holding his head in both hands. We could call it the Insane One, and all of us have plaster casts made and hurl them at walls every time Insaney posts his maudlinity to the universe...

I'm just keeping track of live reports on BBC football. Basic, but enough.
