Birmingham Mail says we're one of a few clubs "chasing" ex-Birmingham winger David Cotterill. So are Blackburn (of course) and his old club Swansea. Or so they say.

We badly need some pace by my reckoning. The only successful teams that get away with not having fast players are the likes of Spain who are full of technicians.

Agreed. It's all well and good getting younger but if they ain't more athletic what's the point.

Morais, Oz, Ireland aren't only short they're relatively slow.
Vela and Lowe are average at best.
Wheevers below average.

An athletic target man would go a long way to solving our set pieces and speed.
Also Sonny Bradley looks quicker than Wheevers.
Antonee back would help.

Another shorty 5ft 8in. 30 years-old, RIGHT WINGER so in the mix with Morais. 270 Champ games, 32 goals, 46 assists, 30 yellows. If we sign him instead of Morais may be an upgrade.

Morais (32) 46 Champ games 2 goals, 3 assists.

Sonny Bradley has joined Luton - Not having it that we were in for him, if that's where he's pitched up

Stephen Ireland actually has crap stats albeit all in the Premier League: 212 games only 19 goals (at one every 801 minutes or 9 whole games) and 27 assists.

At 31 in August it makes you wonder. Either he's a more complete (ie. tackling and defending) player than I thought or not worth splashing the cash on. And he's short at 5ft 7in so no help aerially.

Or an obsessive reliance on reductive stats isn't a very good way of judging who to sign...

It is if it reveals the Emperor has no clothes.

Also too be fair it's hardly obsessive, stats available in this sport are practically prehistoric and I've added them for those that are interested as a point of comparison.

Also I have already noted he's nearly 31, isn't defensive at all and at 5ft 7in exacerbates to our deficiency at set pieces.
He has also been on massive wages in the past, has a history of being injury prone and a bit of a t.w.a.t.

The stats are pertinent because they show he's not prolific at the one thing everyone assumes he is: Scoring and setting up goals.

Bright bit of news. Outcome impossible to predict at this stage, but we seem to be setting off in the right direction. Two decent looking quality players added. Would still like to see Sammi roped in and signed up. Good start though.

Bit worried at the video in that he seems a bit flash and to love a hopeful effort - the jump in goalkeeping league 1 to Champo is huge.

So checked his wiki. Better than 1 in 3 for Walsall. If he can hit double figures next year will be a fab signing. And he isn't a clogging shithouse, which is nice.

Better than the goalscoring / assist stats of the goalkeepers he's played in front of though. They're roughly as relevant.

It seems the new signing policy has nothing to do with height after all. It's all about the beards.

Excited about this signing now. That highlights package seemed a lot better than the one I watched. Some of those longshots are stunningly skilled and he seems more mobile than I recall. He'll give goalkeepers nightmares evil little elf he is...

Seems to play predominantly through the middle. Do we still need a left winger then or are we right with Buckley?

GK: Ben Alnwick, Ben Amos, Jake Turner
RB: Mark Little, Stephen Darby
LB: Andrew Taylor,Stephen Darby
CB: David Wheater, Mark Beevers
DM: Jason Lowe
AM: OZTUMER, Josh Vela,
RW: AMEOBI/Morais???, Craig Noone
LW: ???, Will Buckley
ST: Adam Le Fondre, Conor Hall
TS: ??? $$$

Like I have said previously in this thread, there is a chance he will find the step up difficult and the gap between the Champo and L1 is huge, but if we are in the free transfer market then he is the kind of risk we have to take. At worst he is a great option from the bench. If he works out we have a totally different dimension and a lot more goals and a lot more chances. Welcome Erhun!!

My replica beards coming along, only with a little more silver in it than I'd reckoned on. :D
