On the Garner front, sure. If we bring him in I won't moan and he'll be worth a few goals. Would prefer someone younger, ideally.

We signed O'Neill!GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Fri Aug 03, 2018 11:19 pmCan't decide if this means we got desperate, or had a bit of spare cash. Either we missed a target and want another go in January, or we saved a bit of wage getting someone else in and we could afford an extra body. Not sure how I'd feel if I were one of the kids and it was the latter, but can't do any harm until January.
Three cheers... For Murphy.
Praise be he fell in our laps cause otherwise O'Neill or Wilson would be starting.
Can't believe they've prioritised 5th striker over midfield.

Re: Reconstruction time again: the summer 2018 transfer thread
In hip-breaking news:
Bolton have signed the their own gardener for left back.
Hot on the heels of super signings Gary O'Neil (35) and Ben Williams (35), Ken Anderson has snapped up Wanderer's own part-time gardener Phil Inback (67).
"I'm usually left back at Bolton" the pensioner was heard to mutter after boarding the team bus to Peterborough by mistake last week. Ken Anderson, sitting up front by himself, happened to overhear and the rest is Wanderer's history.
After not playing for nearly 40 years, Inback was pleasantly surprised to finally get an opportunity at first-team football albeit in the unfamiliar role of fullback. The three years' experience he does have were as a centre forward - like his old friend and neighbor Nat Lofthouse - for the Horwich under 13s.
"I can't wait to pull on the jersey for the first time," Inman said. "A free jersey, fantastic, I could never afford one on my pension. I remember when you could get a jersey, a good old-fashioned heavy cotton one, for a crown and two-bob bit, mind you in them days the bus was only a threepence, only ran as far as Little Lever though, used to have to leg the rest, but in them days we didn't mind, kids were tougher back then, no 'nterweb for us, be lucky to get..."
At this stage Parkinson has seemingly given up on his squad getting younger. "Phil is a signing... That brings a world of experience to the squad," he said. "He's very vocal, a great communicator, taking the younger players under his wing... For example, he sat out last training but still showed Oz how to take a free kick without causing a divot on the pitch."

Would actually be a decent signing. We could have a 12th man on the pitch and register him as his carer.mullayo wrote: ↑Sat Aug 04, 2018 3:54 amIn hip-breaking news:

Park him just outside the penalty box. A natural extension of our Wheevers traffic cone defense. Parky wth the fighting talk:
"I was reading something on Sky this week and people think we’ll finish bottom..."
“We’ll batten down the hatches and prove people wrong. Again.”
Gary O'Neill: "Sterling stuff young Parky m'boy....Reminds me a bit of that we'll fight them on the beaches speech... Who was that again?"
Ben Williams: "'Twere Winnie weren't it? Good bloke ol' Winnie. Decent PM too. Had some good policies as I recall."

O’Neil has more energy. In his interview he says his ‘numbers’ are as good as they’ve ever been. He would say that wouldn’t he. But I suspect Parky sees him as experience who could still do a job if needed.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Fri Aug 03, 2018 11:47 pmO'Neil is a year younger. They're both 35, but Henry's birthday is at the start of the season and O'Neil's at the end. O'Neil also arguably covers more positions, as he can play as a deep and advanced mid. Parky said in the announcement, "We felt Gary would give us a bit of cover in the midfield positions." My assumption is that that's his main advantage over other geriatric options.
I think it makes sense. He’s been here all summer. And presumably it means Wilson when fit covers the back four in the main.
Linked with Leicester’s Callum Elder for left back in the BN today.

Meh. Wigan's castoff. Never played in the champ[ionship. Easy to see who won that battle. And an Aussie to boot. Didn't even make their World Cup squad.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sat Aug 04, 2018 6:51 am

Maybe if we signed him permanent but he's had bugger all experience just 45 League One games.

Wouldn't worry about left back; we played a full season with a striker there..

The information about Elder on here is wrong. He played first six games of 2016-17 for Brentford. Got injured and had to go back to Leicester. Suggestion was that he could have played the whole season as he'd been really good. Barnsley picked him up at the start of last season till January and played 5 games for them
Pfffft.

No, he was at Barnsley the season before last. He spent all last season on loan at Wigan.TKIZ! wrote: ↑Sat Aug 04, 2018 12:13 pmThe information about Elder on here is wrong. Came off the bench today and was really good. Calm head and read the danger a few times. He helped Taylor out a lot. If he keeps doing that then he's a good addition.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sat Aug 04, 2018 6:51 amO’Neil has more energy. In his interview he says his ‘numbers’ are as good as they’ve ever been. Agree, I was wrong about him. Can still do a job as a wily closer for a half.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Sat Aug 04, 2018 8:52 pmCame off the bench today and was really good. But I was right about trying to sign a Gardener!
Gary Gardener 26 centre mid from Aston Villa. QPR and West Brom want as well. Loan likely played for Barnsley last year even given the captaincy.
If we continue to play 4-5-1 like we did yesterday we'll need more mids. Don't know why we didn't address it earlier.
What could've happened; did.

We already signed Gary Gardner, he's just called Luke Murphy on our squad list for some reason.

So essentially the same type of player. Except slightly younger and scores a little more. Maybe a tad more mobile. More upside...GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Sun Aug 05, 2018 2:55 amWe already signed Gary Gardner, he's just called Luke Murphy on our squad list for some reason.
Yep, I've talked myself into it.
We used 4 defensive inclined/skilled mids and one winger against West Brom and WON. (Also only 1 striker and no attacking mids) And we only have 4, so we need more. More than we need a fifth striker.

The financial disparity between us and several sides in our division was never clearer than yesterday. Baggies fans are giving Jay Rodriguez pelters on their forums. They're currently holding out for £25m before they'll sell him to Burnley.
They could have our whole club, lock stock and barrel for that!
Trust in Parky to build a side of hungry has beens and wannabes and hopefully someone we can flog for a Madine style fee

Yeah, they've been acting entitled all right. Too long up in the Prem. They've always been up themselves.Harry Genshaw wrote: ↑Sun Aug 05, 2018 7:11 amThe financial disparity between us and several sides in our division was never clearer than yesterday. Window closes in 4 days and we've been begging, borrowing, stealing and even striking to cobble together a squad of frees and hasbeens and they're all like, "sell Hegazy", "get rid of Nyom", "send Bartley back", "get three new strikers in"...

What world do they live in?
A:The Championship. And if they don't quit whining and adapt they'll never get out.
