I hope he signs this weekend. We could use him on the bench for Leeds. I'd not want Magennis to have to do all that running for another 90mins and Alf can't play that role. I like Chuks as a #10, but I'd have him off the bench when Magennis tires.

If we can get him fit (big if) and if we can integrate him, he could be some player. MK Dons were shocking last season and were relegated from League One, the lad still got 10 goals and 10 assists from midfield. He's improved year on year since he left Arsenal and Wenger always believed he was capable of playing in the Premier League. Loads of work to do to get him up to this level, but hopefully Parky can work on him and he has the desire. I'll be delighted if we sign him - as I may have mentioned a few times already on here.

Apparently he's only trained twice with the first team this off season.

Bolton boss Phil Parkinson confirmed his interest in Aneke's services, but admitted he may have to recruit in other areas instead before the loan window closes on August 31.

"He's a player we've looked at and who has got potential but there's nothing right at this moment," said the Bolton manager. "There are other areas we would like to get a couple of proven Championship players in the squad, first and foremost, and with the money available that's what I have got to work towards."

Thanks for the concern. Fear not, brave lion. For the thick end of a month since the World Cup I've been journeying round California and Mexico, frequently outwith wifi, occasionally lurking on here but with nothing to add worth signing in for.

Back on our pleasant little islands in the middle of next week, at which normal gobshittery may resume. For now, I'll declare myself reasonably happy with the signings, expecting a few more, happy with the points haul, miffed with the two dropped and generally intrigued and excited by the campaign to come.

MK Don's boss has confirmed Aneke is in talks with "another club"...which is us.

Malc I've never heard of him....is he any good ? a midfielder or a striker - saying that if he promises not to venture over the half way line to often and promises to prioritise defending first and foremost he'll be fine for Parkinson.

To respond direct PT, I had never heard his name before the speculation. Seems to be a goal scoring midfielder (10 goals and 10 assists last season).

At 6' 3" he seems a bit of a big unit. If GotB is right, we might have a Liam Trotter clone who we can call 'The Wardrobe'.

No idea about him, but delighted to have a keeper in and he's a good age. As has been said, Plymouth fans seem to rate him. I used to follow Plymouth's results as I had a couple of mates down there. I'll have to see if I can get anything on him. Really pleased we've got one over the line.

Plymouth fans seem to really rate him....

It's always promising when you read fans discussing a player and they conclude that they can't keep him because he's too good for the division. Time will tell, though.

We used to have a very good relationship with Plymouth as a club. Presumably we'll have picked up the phone and asked them what they thought of him.

Murphy did a good Liam Trotter impression yesterday....I just hope he's not wearing the same lead boots that Trotter had because he was very slow & cumbersome in everything that he did.

But I'll put that down to a lack of fitness....Lowe & Vela also had the same lead boots on, but I can't use fitness as an excuse for them.

Saying that I think the Angel of the North moves quicker than Wheater & Beevers.

I don't hold yesterday against the mids. Because the defence dropped so deep, the mids had to follow them and it meant Bristol had loads of space to play in. It made it hard for any of them to know when to press and when to sit. That's then made worse by them only having had one game together and Murphy only joining very recently. Until they get used to each other and we sort out the tactical issues at home, we'll see things like that go on. Early days.
