We’ve spent over 1M quid on a 26 year old non league player. Madness.

Well, we might. Which might include all manner of clauses (goals, appearances, avoiding relegation, winning league, curing cancer).

Is this better than keeping ALF's wages on the books?!BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Fri Aug 31, 2018 6:05 pmWe’ve spent over 1M quid on a 26 year old non league player. Madness.

Thought we weren't signing anyone, and that that was disappointing? You don't know we've spent that much.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Fri Aug 31, 2018 6:05 pmWe’ve spent over 1M quid on a 26 year old non league player. Madness.
Parky: “We are delighted with the signing of Christian Doidge. He’s a player who came into league football quite late and has met every challenge put in front of him. He’s someone who fits our profile of what we want in a player and he has the hunger and desire to be the best he can. Ken and Lee have worked very hard behind the scenes over a number of weeks to make this deal happen. It’s never easy to sign strikers as clubs are reluctant to let them go but their persistence has paid off and we are delighted."

Doidge: “I’m just buzzing to get the move done. It’s been a stressful couple of days, but it’s an absolute dream to get it finally get it over the line. To have the opportunity to play Championship football for a massive club like Bolton Wanderers is what I’ve dreamt of and I can’t wait to get stuck in and learn from the other lads to hopefully do well for the club. I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead – I can’t wait to learn from the manager and his staff as I look to improve as much as I can. It’s a step up in level, but I’m willing and determined to improve my game and make myself a better player. I’m a striker who likes to play off the shoulder, but at the same time I enjoy playing off the diag and holding the ball up. I’m someone who works really hard for the team - defensively, I feel like I can contribute too, but I’m ultimately a striker that has scored a lot of goals recently so my confidence is sky high which I’ll be looking to take into my Bolton Wanderers career.”

^ Yes. This. Absolutely.
A good point made via MI's blog just now, tho: Wyke was around the £1m mark. No way PP had Doidge over him, Shirley, so what's happened? Is £1m way off the mark? Is Ken getting this on terms he can wriggle out of? Is cashflow this bad he simply didn't have the money this summer, but thinks he will/might in Jan (maybe thinking we'll have a Madine-type offload by then)?
Hmm...
That said, good luck to the fella.

I have no idea how good or bad Doidge is, but I think Ken has done a good job providing he has the Blumarble situation under control. To invest in the team to the tune of what is likely to be an approx £1m fee, and to not sell anyone, is extremely positive from a fan perspective.

Re: Reconstruction time again: the summer 2018 transfer thread
End of the day I made a mistake as I thought FGR had gone down last season. Pretty embarrassed by that. He is a league two striker.
If he’s good enough for Parky then he’s good enough for me.

"Enjoys playing off the diag"
Re: Reconstruction time again: the summer 2018 transfer thread
Looks like this is one bullet we didn't want to Doidge.

Some flattering Doidge Youtubeness:

First impressions are he seems mobile and adept with both feet...

Re: Reconstruction time again: the summer 2018 transfer thread
I actually saw him play in a league game last season; one of Owen Coyles former ‘marquee’ signings who barely played for us got a goal...work that one out.
Remember him being a handfull, but the standard at league two is massively different. However having said that it’s no mean feat to get the goals he did in a team that finished bottom 6. Looking forward to seeing if he can step up.

Good luck to Connor hall as well. Hope he gets i their team and bangs some goals. As pleased that he got his loan that I am for us signing someone.
Re: Reconstruction time again: the summer 2018 transfer thread
I'm happy. Never seen him kick a ball but good to see the spivs have backed the boss. Don't and can't expect them to chuck money at it, but the Vela/Beevers out and noone in rumours had a touch of the familiar. We're not chucking it about but imagine PP must be happy and think he's the best thing about the club atm so will do for me.
Also, if you think the "million" Sunderland paid for Wyke and the "million" we've just paid are the same, I've got a "bridge" for sale.

Yep. It’s not much but they’ve given him the tools to get some players he wanted. Can’t ask for more than that. A sharp contrast to having Clough and Tyler Walker foisted on him at the last minute.Prufrock wrote: ↑Fri Aug 31, 2018 8:24 pmI'm happy. Also, big fan of a ten minute highlight passage that includes two goals against Tranmere, as well as a quickly taken throw in. Stuff dreams are made of. Assume he'll be off the bench tomorrow.
