Well, whatever the reason, the pundits at the game (via The Guardian) reckon he's finished. Right now the game's still n the balance. If we can just add a bit more to the score....well, who knows? Cometh the hour etc...

How many times has Cook been caught at slip by needlessly holding his bat out to a ball travelling down Off at rib cage height, as he once again just has? I'm absolutely sick to death of seeing him do it. It requires no skill from the bowler beyond knowing that Cook, as experienced as he may be, is continually 4ucking stupid enough to stick an outside edge on it if he sticks an outswinger in that area.

Cook's long since had it. One poor innings after another and enough's enough.

As discussed earlier though, we have no shortage of No. 6's but an absolute paucity of potential openers. What fert do?
Indeed. Watching him going fishing time and time again against even mediocre bowling is irritating beyond belief.

As much as Cook’s form is woeful the problem is we need to replace Jennings and find a number 3 first.

So personally I’d prefer Cook carried on to aid another new opener. Jennings, if he is picked again it is an utter disgrace.

This whole test has been about good bowling as much as anything. Be nice to wrap it up tonight...and as I write, we do. Great show lads. :oyea:

Bitch, bitch, bitch...

Moan, moan, moan...

Our top order are f*cking shit. This team is f*cking awful. Worst team we've had in living memory; I'm never going to watch another test.

So, Cook’s retiring. At least that ends the 5 year search for his partner!

Interesting to see who will be the new partner for Jennings.

Big innings for him. Probably buys him time.

Where does Cook rank? Must be up there. Think he's broadly known when his time is up too. Big shoes to fill.

I'm struggling to see an obvious candidate.

Cook's been enormous, as a bat and a skip, wish we'd got to see him and Trescothick together.

Well, seeing as in the last 5 years we’ve been through the following while trying to partner cook, I guess we’re struggling.

Carberry
Lyth
Robson
Moeen
Root
Hales
Compton
Hameed (lol)
Jennings
Trott
Duckett
Stoneman

After that lot, there’s not many more to try. Rory Burns, that’s about it.

Quite a bit of Simon and Garfunkel coming from Insaney's direction is there not?

Saw this tweeted earlier:

"Shocking to realise that ‘not a single one of the 12693 deliveries that Cook has faced in his record 82 consecutive home test appearances has been shown on terrestrial television’
It really is a national scandal, cutting off the game from its public" https://t.co/1ynP4lHnfO

I would attend at least one day's test cricket every year until the day arrived when I could no longer sit on the sofa and watch the rest of the game.

Folk that chose to pay for non terrestrial TV services have, to my mind, reaped what they sowed. Sadly their choices have impacted upon the viewing of all licence fee payers, not just themselves.

Think it's an example of somewhere market economics doesn't work, like child labour or animal cruelty. You can't leave that to customers and "trust the market". Needs intervention for the #greatergood

Even ludicrously Sky-fied football has half the England games and major tournaments. Wimbledon is on BBC. Even Rugby League has the Challenge Cup, but no Test Cricket.

It is only going to get worse as Amazon, Netflix and other streaming services get involved. Amazon have some premiership games next year. So if you want to watch all televised premiership games next year you need a sub to Sky Sports, BT Sport AND Amazon Prime.

If Amazon fancy it they can buy everything. They are far richer than anyone else. Whilst it is nice to see Sky get their comeuppance its worse for the consumer.

It took me a while to figure out what 'terrestrial' tv was. Most people in Canada subscribe to a cable, fibre optic or satellite service provider, although basic channels still go out over the air. All the providers offer various packages from basic through movie channels and sports up to adult networks. You don't subscribe to more than one provider, just chose the package you want. TV is usually bundled with telephone and internet services. There is pretty stiff competition among the providers so initial packages do not cost a lot. They tend to increase prices after the guaranteed period. One of my children tends to change providers every six months or so.

Last Test. 196-7, Cook scored 71 of them. Ironic?
