Looking good; only 572 runs behind at stumps and two days to go. All we have to do is defend for two days, try and get 573 runs and we'll be fine. If not, settle for a draw.

I have to declare an interest here: I have no interest. What is cricket? Is it like porn for 110 year olds?

England 187 all out five mins ago in Test 2. Not the brightest of starts.

Right now we're in serious danger of being beaten by "an innings and"..!

231 for 4 in the last test with Butler and Stokes both in the sixties at stumps. Much better due to these two. Commentary says first four wickets worked hard at blunting the bowling attack, so....onwards...

Onwards... and apparently downwards...

Nah, we have a lead of 123 on the first innings. Onwards it is Monty.

I didn't see that coming when we lost our last 5 wickets for 20 odd runs and they were 50 without loss. :conf: Onwards it is.

The top 6 have underperformed for 12months. None are averaging over 40, the majority under 30. The current innings is very much the exception. This is the last proper test before the ashes and we’re still a long way from knowing the best top 3.

Also it’s fair to say well done to Mark Wood. I’ve never really got him as a player before. Always touted by the England setup, but I’ve never seen what he offered. That spell on Sunday was great, and if he can reproduce those speeds moving forward is a key weapon when overseas.

In a series we've already lost to an (at best) average side.......

The "series" was three games; we lost two, won one. Are we supposed to win everything all the time; if so, how much did you lose at the bookies?

Is it not ok to question the top order Tango? Are you genuinely comfortable going into the ashes with our top 3? Would you pick them, or go with someone else?

Our batting has been poor for a long time. The weakness is at 1-3. 4-8 are all world class if they are coming in with a good platform which they never get.

Burns, Denly and Jennings all average about 25. So has everyone else who’s been tried there. A good test player averages 40. A very good one 50.

We’re so far away from the days of Cook, Strauss, Trott, KP, Bell, Collingnwood, Prior who all averaged comfortably over 40. Of the current side only root is in that class.

We should have enough to beat the West Indies, and are ranked comfortably above them in the world. We didn’t, and that’s life. They played better cricket, but the side still has some glaring weaknesses and the batting in both of the first tests was embarrassing.

Course it is. B.W.F.C.i would do it if we had Len Hutton, Dennis Compton, Cyril Washbrooke, Ian Bothham, Freddy Flintoff and Geofrey Boycott available.

He averaged 35 in division 2 last year of the championship. He did well in the last test for sure, and I’ve been a fan of his for 10yrs, long before his leg spin became a thing - he’s been unlucky to wait so long for a chance, but he’s not going to be worrying the Australians before they come. Our top 3 are obviously our weakness. It’s not a problem easily solved - we’ve tried pretty much all of the alternatives out there, as well as stokes, Bairstow and Ali.

Our top order is demonstrably and statistically poor. We've just been beaten by a very average side.

You do come out with some utter nonsense. When we had a solid top order I wasn't saying we had a poor one. Now we do have a poor one, I am saying it. If you want to make a case that they aren't poor with some reason then I'm all ears....
