I'm not a big 1 day fan but this team was incredible before Archer. At home we really should win it.
I’m not either. I’ve always struggled to recall any ODIs more than a couple of weeks later. This team are making me take more notice though. Bowling is the weakness, and the only worry for the World Cup is the batsmen fail in one of the knock out games as happened in the last champions trophy
If we play every ODI side in the world in a series I bet we would win all of them over 5 matches.

As you say in a one off world cup - its a bit down to luck. Just one match where you lose a toss or the other team has a plan that just works and you are out cheaply and its all over....it doesn't take much.

But this England side IMO is the best around. Will they win? Who knows. But they are special.

We are probably a fast bowler short of perfect - but I'd not say bowling is our weakness. Bowling line up is weaker than batting line up. But which team is that not true for in this game?
It could be a reflection of the pitches we’ve played on, but I heard we’d conceded runs at the highest economy rate out of all the major nations in the last 12 months, which surprised me seeing how dominant we’d been.

The last 2 years show as a team we’re undoubtably the best in the world and we’ve won series after series home and away. The problem is a 4-1 series win is a dominant performance, but if that 1 defeat out of 5 comes in the World Cup semi final then there’s not much you can do.

We’re as well prepared as it’s possible to be and will be comfortable favourites. Hales was dealt with swiftly and the form of the other batsmen means it’s not an issue that’s lingered in the background.

Fingers crossed we can complete part one of the summer!

I read that same stat but with the caveat that we've been playing on flat pitches with short boundaries other than the Windies trip.

Agree with all of the above. I'd be astonished if we didn't finish in the top 2 of the group (you can always lose one game). Then just have to hope we perform in the next two.

I’m surprised there’s not been more chat regarding moving to separate coaches for red and white ball cricket. Bayliss has worked wonders for the ODI team, but the test side has undoubtably gone backwards.

England coach is a full on job, 12 months of the year. Splitting the job would relieve a lot of the pressures.

The games are diverging so much they’re almost like different sports now, with different skill sets and mental demands. Why not have specialist coaches? It’s long been accepted that players can specialise in one or the other.

Does the coach change that we have one of the best ever ODI batting line ups but beyond Joe Root not a single test level quality top order batsman?

I agree Bayliss is an ODI expert - but I don't think its coaching that is the reason we are not as good at test level....just the balance of the players we have.

When you think David Willey misses out on the squad having been not that long ago our first choice ODI bowler and not bad lower order slogger either - you see the strength here.

Collingwood got sent out as a sub fielder at one point I read, not sure we were going hell for leather.

Is that Paul Collingwood, best fielder English Cricket has selected since Derek Randall?

By the way, he's younger than me.

It wasn’t even an official ODI. It was 12 aside. We picked up a couple of niggles and sent the assistant coach on to field. There was no Morgan or Root and Archer only played as a specialist number 11 and didn’t bowl.

Agreed it would have been nice to have won, but as a game it really carries no significance. Most players got a bit of time at the crease and some of the fringe bowlers got some overs under their belt.

It was an unnecessary game. Didn’t need it and all we did was pick up injuries.
