I’d be tempted to give Burns the summer. He’s scored stacks of runs in the championship in recent years so there’s some talent there. Needs every chance to prove himself I think given the lack of viable alternatives.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2019 12:58 pmWell he's a better batsman than Burns.....I thought Burns might have been ok but technically he has too much to do.

Joshin' aside, I really do think our order wants looking at. Sam Curran only going in at eight? Really?

But he's technically deficient and that will be exposed by Starc et. al. he can't judge the off stump line. That won't be fixed playing in the Ashes.jimbo wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2019 1:02 pmI’d be tempted to give Burns the summer. I'd definitely not put him into the ashes. A number 10 has highlighted how far Burns is off...

122-1 at lunch, Leach 60, Roy 52 and scores level. More like it.
Si Deus pro nobis, quis contra nos?
Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
I agree there’s technical deficiencies there at the moment, but tempted to give him a chance for now. He’s a hugely experienced county player who’s scored more runs than anyone else opening the batting in the last few years. He’ll know his own game inside out, and you’d hope would have the ability to adapt it for the test arena. If he does, we may have a good one on our hands as we know he’s got the temperament to play big innings. If he doesn’t learn, then I agree he needs to go. For now though theres hardly many others banging the door down deserving a go.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2019 1:10 pmBut he's technically deficient and that will be exposed by Starc et. al. he can't judge the off stump line. I'd have flirted him and given Sibley a go in this test...

Went to the same school as Roy and Burns, coincidentally.

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
My worry is that with Roy and Burns you have one who doesn't like the ball back into the pads and the other who can't cope with the ball in the channel or pushed across him.
That's a big pair of technical deficiencies to carry in your openers.

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Yep. Though we’ve been used to technically deficient openers for years. Better to give them longer to prove themselves in that instance I think. 10games is about right. If they’ve not learned or developed by then it’s time to go. Different case if there was a queue of players averaging 45 in the championship ready to come in.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2019 2:14 pmMy worry is that with Roy and Burns you have one who doesn't like the ball back into the pads and the other who can't cope with the ball in the channel or pushed across him.

Sickner for Leach. Eight away from getting on the honours boards at Lords. What a knock though. Superb.

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Just seen Denly's run out. BBC are siting Root's indecision. Have to disagree. There was never a run on and Denly fecked-up calling it. Root would never have made it.

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
This is the second time in what? three weeks that I've seen Bairstow waste an appeal after being given LBW? Last time, in the WC of course, meant that Roy had no appeal when he was given caught behind to a ball he never got anywhere near.Prufrock wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2019 4:21 pmShane Watson-esque with his reviews is Jonny.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2019 4:13 pmI'm still shaking my head at Baitow's pair. Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Absolutely. It's the number one reason, apart from the watching paint dry, to turn up. See you there next week, opening match is a wooden paling fence.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2019 4:53 pmIs there a bar serving decent ale there?Lost Leopard Spot wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2019 4:33 pmThe Derbyshire Watching Paint Dry League kicks off for the new season next week, after the Tour de France, and before the new football season.
