Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
At 224-5 the test is on tipping point. Which way depends very much on our bowlers; clear a couple off now and we're in with a shout. If we don't it could get to be hard work.

Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Thu Sep 05, 2019 12:35 pmJust seen it too. To say that he 'dropped' him is way harsh, especially when you consider that he's on the follow-through from bowling.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Thu Sep 05, 2019 12:27 pmI've seen it on BBC website. It was a "chance" but not sure he got near it - fingers might have brushed the ball as it went past.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Thu Sep 05, 2019 11:14 amBBC reporting that Smith's been dropped by Archer. I haven't seen it, but going off this description it sounds a little harsh to me.
Steve Smith bunts it straight back down the ground. Archer gets his hands across in his follow through, gets fingertips on it, but it bursts through and ends up trickling for four!
Looks like we're going to have to do this the long way round as per the first test, whereby we accept that we're unlikely to get Smith out and concentrate on the rest.
Smith can get nervy in the 140s - that's the time to strike!
Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Oh you are kidding. Finally get him. And it's a no ball. Off spin.

Interesting to hear Michael Vaughan suggest the spirit in the England camp isn't very good. Perhaps that explains why we are so inconsistent in the field.
Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
They need to stop looking for this magical "plan" to get Smith out as if, if they are creative enough, there is a key to getting him out for 10. He's too good. You're going to go for runs. Need to keep tempting him outside off with the odd sharp bouncer to stop him wandering across, and take any chances that come. You're still going to go for runs but it's better than the nonsense we've served at him chasing magic that he just marmalises.

Smith seems to be doing a Stokes revenge innings. We do need to stop this soon.

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
After the last test we had momentum. We've thrown it away and I definitely think there is something wrong with this group of players. Conditions have been good for bowling albeit a fairly slow wicket. But we've spent most of the time spraying it all over the show. Archer yesterday bowled well under what he had previously, Leach has lost his consistency, Stokes' is wild and Overton - why is he playing?
Broad as ever has been the pick. But generally we've been lackluster when we should have been all over them.

Not sure I'll ever understand the reviews procedure. If Smith didn't appeal his wicket then why's the no ball been given?

Umpires can ask 3rd umpire to check front foot on dismissals.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Thu Sep 05, 2019 2:39 pmNot sure I'll ever understand the reviews procedure. If Smith didn't appeal his wicket then why's the no ball been given?
Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
They usually check no balls I think. I guess the tortuous reasoning is that you shouldn't be out from an unfair delivery (but it's fine for you to be wrongly out from a fair delivery).

Agreed. Back to basics and at least you can then set a field for consistent line and length and try to stop him scoring.Prufrock wrote: ↑Thu Sep 05, 2019 2:22 pmThey need to stop looking for this magical "plan" to get Smith out as if, if they are creative enough, there is a key to getting him out for 10. Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Correct. Every dismissal is routinely checked for a no ball as the batsman is leaving the field. It came in about 4 years ago off the top of my head. There’s been debate about whether it’s led to more no balls being missed, as the umpires know there’s always the back up if a wicket falls.

Smiths just a machine isn’t he. Relentlessly rolling on and churning out the runs. This is only his 4th innings of the series and he’s got about 520 runs!

They're going to beat us by an innings. By an innings, I tellz ya.

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Sadly I don’t think that’s a particularly bold prediction. Sounds like we’re a bit demoralised today and that last session was awful. Best hope now is a rain assisted draw.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Thu Sep 05, 2019 4:05 pmThey're going to beat us by an innings. By an innings, I tellz ya.

Its very very very poor from England. The whole performance after Stoke's heroics has been shambolic. When we should have been tearing into the Aussies.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Thu Sep 05, 2019 4:05 pmThey're going to beat us by an innings. By an innings, I tellz ya.
400 in this series is equivalent of 600 in a normal test. Massive score. When I think we should have had them for 200 max. And 250 would have been advantage Australia.
