Some people used to leave a gap between thigh pad and pad...just around the top of the knee...thigh pads didn't tend to be as big back in the day...great place to aim at.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2020 9:34 pmTrue However, the part it did hit was my only unprotected part from the waist down. Bowling machine set to 55mph. Hit on the trailing thigh above the pad. Clearly the owd lamps aren't what they once were. A bruise and a lump the size of the ball itself.
At least it missed your googlies!

After losing the last one by 1 run, England beat S.A by 2 runs in the ODI...Real nerve twitcher of a game that went right down to the last ball. Terrific stuff.

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Gotta say, T20 has never really captured my imagination. Wasn't around when I was playing and it's probably more attuned to my way of batting (as an opening bowler ). But to me, the joy was in batting like a T20 in 5 hour cricket (which jut wasn't cricket) to turn the game on it's head rather than make an actual game of it. Don't mind it being in the wider game as it brings in bums on seats and money, but can't see me going out of my way to watch it. I barely watch ODI's generally.TANGODANCER wrote: ↑Fri Feb 14, 2020 8:42 pmAfter losing the last one by 1 run, England beat S.A by 2 runs in the ODI...Real nerve twitcher of a game that went right down to the last ball. Brilliant stuff from England's batsmen yesterday. Reading the BBC analysis of the T20 side this came up...
Brilliant. So Denly equally shit in all forms of the game. I literally had to double take the fact he was in the T20 side and batting low down the order - wtf is that about? If ever a player should be nowhere near the England side its him. Especially the white ball side. The the statistics show how pathetically embarrassing he is. Not even in double figures.Joe Denly played in the opening two games in South Africa and only missed the third because of illness. He seems to be the man in possession, despite averaging 9.60 from 12 matches.

Cricket is a team game with a team attitude needed. Things don't always go as planned, mainly due to the quality of the opposition. Every player has good and bad spells and keep pointing out and highlighting faults helps nothing at all. A good England side won the series against a very good South African one. That do fine for me.Failing that, apply for the selector's job and see if you can do any better. .BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2020 10:19 amBrilliant stuff from England's batsmen yesterday. We have the best T20 batting line up in the world probably. Certainly right up there. Why on earth Denly is in there is beyond me. Malan has a far better record so does Root (who was left out of the entire squad despite average 29 in T20's - vs Denly's 9....) and then you have the option of Banton who is a real up and coming talent.TANGODANCER wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2020 10:36 amCricket is a team game with a team attitude needed. Denly is just not worth a place and why he's in there and batting down the order is beyond just about everyone commenting on the side.

I don't agree with the notion that keep pointing out and highlighting faults helps nothing at all. When I had a dip, batting or bowling, I used to have people looking specifically to try and find out what the fault was, what had changed. Might be something as innocuous as bat coming down at wrong angle, or getting too wide on the crease with bowling etc.
The only way to get out of something like that is to highlight it and work on it. Fine margins.

My point wasn't about pointing out or highlighting specific faults,Worthy, that's analysis. BWFCI's constant complaining about certain players general form isn't that at all, particularly when the team as a whole is doing so well. Every cricketer (read sportsman) has off spells; it's why a fine professional cricketer like Joe Root isn't in there right now.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2020 1:25 pmI don't agree with the notion that keep pointing out and highlighting faults helps nothing at all. He's not had an offspell. He's not good enough. He's had 12 matches and averages 9 with a strike rate of 96 and a high score of 30.TANGODANCER wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2020 1:54 pmMy point wasn't about pointing out or highlighting specific faults,Worthy, that's analysis. The other contenders for his place average, 52, 18 and 35 with strike rates of 153, 164 and 126 respectively.
Please tell me what on earth he's doing in that side? His domestic T20 record is also the worst of those contenders too...why is he being picked?

Oh I see. Denly is a sort of interesting one at the moment he's only played 11 T20 innings and half of those were in 2009/10 when he averaged 4. You could say, since he's now quadrupled that, his rate of improvement is immense. If you look at him coming back in 2018, he's hit 76 in 5 so average of 15. That's not a form thing - he's never had a "great run" and lost it, to compare against in T20. It's right to question his selection in this format.TANGODANCER wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2020 1:54 pmMy point wasn't about pointing out or highlighting specific faults,Worthy, that's analysis. ODI's he averaged 29.8 in 2009 and since coming back in 2019 averages 44.5 so a clear improvement. No reason to question his selection, for me, in ODI's at the minute.
Tests - If I look at his series, he averaged 28 v Windies, 16.5 v Ireland, 31 v the Aussies, 37 v New Zealand and 30 v the Saffers. For an overall average of 30. Folks tend to suggest above 40 is World Class, but there's lots of folks don't make it to World Class but have pretty good careers. Gower averages 44, but someone like Allan Lamb who was viewed as useful only got to 34, Gatting 35... . At the minute for me, he's probably worth his place because he's got half a chance of sticking round, even though his average is on the marginally low side.

Ha. Well rain being far worse than expected today means we got away with it. An hour or two mores play might have not been pretty.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2020 3:03 pmHe might have had the same weather forecast as every other bugger which suggested it was going to be Saharan weather

I'm thinking we might need a "COVID spike" in Southampton by the end of the day...
