Sibley not learning either after a lot of hard work and a no ball reprieve.

Denly looks solid and approaches 30...has to go on and make a century, we’ve been here too many times. Can’t fail again for me.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Sat Jul 11, 2020 2:44 pmSibley not learning either after a lot of hard work and a no ball reprieve.

It’s a good game now, all three results in play. Feel England need a lot to happen to win, we aren’t exactly scoring at a pace and pitch doesn’t seem unplayable. At the rate we are going we might be 180 ish (might be optimistic that) ahead at close, assuming we don’t lose too many. Would still need a session of batting tomorrow. Have to bowl them out in 2. Hope Bess runs through them like a dose of salts as it starts to turn horizontal and Stokes’ decision to bat first is redeemed.

I'm in the "strange toss to bat on" camp, but was as much of it good bowling and some poor shot selection by us, first innings? Whereas they batted a bit better and we bowled not as straight. This is looking a good track to bat on right now, although bit variable on the bounce...

Oh goody. Denly 29 chips an absolutely nothing ball straight to the fielder. What an absolute sack of useless shite Denly is. There is not one justification for him getting another chance. He’s has a ridiculous number of chances now. He’s fundamentally shit. It’s proven beyond any doubt now.

Yep agree with all that. Just think batting first puts pressure on gives Windies bowling attack less pressure as they didn’t have the option and gives them best bowling conditions on and off and on day.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Sat Jul 11, 2020 3:26 pmI'm in the "strange toss to bat on" camp, but was as much of it good bowling and some poor shot selection by us, first innings? Nice 50 from Crawley. Most fluent English batsman this innings. Plays the spin with attacking intent which I like.

Well, at one point I was hoping for 220-250 yesterday. 170 looks undercooked, if we could just sneak past 200, might make an interesting last day...

England have found their bowling line and lengths. Now more than interesting this. There are no demons in this pitch but if you put it in the right place it’s tough.

Slipped away a bit. Lost momentum after lunch. Buttler putting that down hasn’t helped. Trouble with the wicket is you need to consistently put balls in right areas and since lunch Wood didn’t quite get it right and it’s stopped swinging for Anderson.

Too many chances going begging...Stokes when he went the wrong way, Buttler, Crawley fumble on run out, Burns not picking up at gully...can't do that with 200 on the cans.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sun Jul 12, 2020 2:35 pmSlipped away a bit. Indeed. Though the Burns one would have been ruled out anyway as Stokes overstepped. But enough chances to have them 5 or 6 down now. Decision to bat first is really the thing that has cost us. And our very fragile batting lineup.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Sun Jul 12, 2020 2:54 pmToo many chances going begging...Stokes when he went the wrong way, Buttler, Crawley fumble on run out, Burns not picking up at gully...can't do that with 200 on the cans.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sun Jul 12, 2020 2:35 pmSlipped away a bit. Not sure (still) whether the toss was the determinant of the result. Certainly a strange one but, when you factor in some poor shot selection by England in 1st innings, some poor lines bowled by England in first innings, second England inning collapse (5-30?), afternoon session today (dropping Blackwood on 20 and a few other misses), then I think there were plenty of chances to do things better regardless of the toss.
I think Root comes in for Denly. I'm still not convinced by Buttler. Then there's what do you do with Broad...

I'm sorry, but something being ok, by dint of it being 'not as shit as something unrelated' doesn't work fir me, Chief.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Fri Jul 10, 2020 2:35 pm
But lets not forget at least in cricket there is a defined system whereby the 'right' decision more often than not is reached - and on field judgement of teams and umpires is relevant. In football you have video technology that by its own admission is still getting the decisions wrong - 3 out of 3 wrong yesterday - by their own admission. Cricket is far better.

Buttler is a good player IMHO but he's clearly overthinking things in his head about what he needs to do at test matches - he should in my view be given licence to play the attacking brand he did for the ODI side. Like Gilchrist was for Australia - it won't always work but ultimately its better than a confused Buttler all over the crease scratching round for 10 then being bowled. We either give him a proper attacking licence or make a change. If you change do you go Bairstow or Foakes?
As for Broad - its weird because Southampton would have ideally suited him whereas you'd say OT is more suited to Wood. I guess Wood won't play all three so it will I assume be a question of which one Broad plays and which one Wood plays. I mean Broad is a better bowler by a mile in England but I can see the idea - get an attack capable of bowling in Australia ready - we know Broad and Anderson are a deadloss as your headline attack down in Australia now. I'd be tempted to rest Wood next test to avoid him breaking and bring Broad back in then review after that.
Id also question whether Bess is really best we've got.
