Bit surprised. Not in a bad way, but surprised nonetheless.

Is it not a slight change of shape?
A 4-3-3 fits that starting line-up more comfortably than a 4-2-3-1 does.

Keeper on the bench!

It's an interesting one. At the level I play at (pretty decent amateur standard) all the trendy tactics filter down and we've come across a lot more teams playing 3 at the back. We struggled at first for the reasons you've both discussed. Our wingers in a 433 kept getting being over diligent and following the wing backs and sitting on the full back's toes. So now I fire them off Bielsa style to go man for man with their three centre backs and we'll figure the rest out. You play 3v3 in one half and 7v7 in the other and the 3 usually outscore the 7.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Fri Mar 26, 2021 2:43 pmNice in theory but if our full-backs match up their wing-backs, that means they've got three forwards against our two centre-backs, unless we empty central midfield to help out. You're bang-on that when we have the ball our wide men should be looking for gaps – but when we don't, they can't be watching on from afar, or we're overloaded. It's a fine balance, and it'll shift at least a hundred times during the game, unless there's long periods of keep-ball.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Fri Mar 26, 2021 1:47 pmThose 'wide attackers' playing in the channels between the back three and full backs is what I'd like to see. Pull their back 3 around. Full backs can match up their wing backs and offer width. The weakness of 3 at the back is when you find ways of playing the channels - as we know all too well. I'd like to see Arthur start for this reason. The strength with 3 at the back is if you end up forcing teams to double up on your wing backs. We shouldn't do that.
But that does leave the "figure the rest out". I trust you on the research that it sounds like they play 343 rather than 352. If it was the 3-5-2 the match ups work pretty easily. If it's 343 it's a little trickier.
But worth remembering that shapes are starting positions and Evatt talks a lot about the players figuring it out as they go along. There is almost no real difference between a 352 and a 442 diamond, or a 352 and a 433 (i.e. with one sitter, as opposed to our current 4232).
I wondered all of yesterday having read this whether we'd see Evatt go for the ballsy approach and leave our wingers high and wide and let their wing backs go. On TV I thought the peacock would come out. The teamsheet suggests more conservative, but I wonder/hope that's insurance for the front three to go and play. If it's a shoot out I'd back us against anyone in the league.
Worth noting that when Lee-MJ-GT have played together before at the end of games he hasn't changed the shape and Lee has gone in at 10. I suspect we'll see that. Delf didn't really affect the game in the enough last week.
4-2, Doyle hattrick.

Yeah, just spotted that! Coz Thomason is starting. Saw him with keepers gloves on in training video, so I reckon he's the fly goalie.

Well I'm watching it on an iPad. Smaller screen than my laptop but nice to have a quality picture rather than iFollows jerky blurredness that I've gotten used to.
Good luck lads!!

Tactically today it’s important and crucial that we score more goals then them. COYW!
