3-1 at the death (plus a couple ruled offside) that'll do .

FT 1-3. Brockbank, Bakayoko & Darcy. Plus two disallowed and hit the post.

Isn't that 4 less than we scored against them last year?TonyDomingos wrote: ↑Sat Jul 10, 2021 4:51 pmFT 1-3. Brockbank, Bakayoko & Darcy. Plus two disallowed and hit the post.

Incorrect. Four fewer.

Re: Pre-season frendlies
Emphasis was very much on getting the basics right. Much the better side throughout, though I suppose you'd expect that; we declined numerous opportunities to shoot from distance, preferring to recycle possession and go for high-percentage options. Longridge scored with pretty much their only attack (possibly a foul on Jones in the build-up though), but couldn't have complained had we scored seven or eight. Their keeper had the game of his life.
No worries re: Sarce. Felt a bit of tightness, played it safe by subbing him - that's what pre-season is for. Performance of individual players is always difficult to judge in games like this, but I was impressed by Brockbank, Delf, Johnston, Dapo, Santos, Sheehan and Bakayoko. Less so with Gordon and Senior...

If anyone hasn't seen the goals and would like to:
https://twitter.com/christina_tutor/media
Plus we had 2 disallowed goals, so theres that.

I’m not really ready for Bolton yet, but am I correct in saying that Politic didn’t feature at all yesterday?
Edit: Sounds like his absence might have been covid related.

Re: Pre-season frendlies
Solid performance and although it’s only their first game, it’s still a concern that we squander so many chances. I’m sure this will only harden IE’s resolve to bring in another quality front man because unless we do, all the good work done by the rest of the team will be wasted. It may seem expensive but if Charlie Wyke does the business for Wiggin and gets them promoted, it will be money well spent and whilst we don’t want to overspend, quality strikers cost, whether we like it or not.

Re: Pre-season frendlies
We arent getting a better goalscorer than Doyle. And can only play one anyway. Better investing in goals in other attacking areas. Wyke has done the business for Sunderland yet they’ve not gone up. This season is about establishing ourselves and signing proven league one strikers is clearly beyond our financial means. I think we will be absolutely fine.Whitesince63 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 11, 2021 8:11 amSolid performance and although it’s only their first game, it’s still a concern that we squander so many chances. Re: Pre-season frendlies
Yep, agree with Insano on this one. Doyle is the starter this season and we aren’t going to spend big bucks on a proven striker to challenge him. Bakayoko gives a different option off the bench, then I’d like a younger striker signed either on loan or from the lower leagues as a third choice.
We need Fonz, Amaechi, Politic, Dapo, Sarce and Isgrove to be chipping in with their fair share of goals.

Re: Pre-season frendlies
Playing at Colls tonight an the first-half team is
Dixon, Brockbank, Aimson, Baptiste, John, Williams, Sheehan, Tutte, Amaechi, Afolayan, Bakayoko
Fairly straightforward except we don't seem to have a 10 - wonder if we'll play Sheehan there?

Re: Pre-season frendlies
Surprised we’re playing Williams and Tutte in the same half, thought IE would have mixed them but I suppose it isn’t really that key at this stage and just about giving players minutes?

Re: Pre-season frendlies
Yeah I think it's just minutes, fitness and kicking a ball about at the minute.
I note Evatt's recent comments about Amaechi being way behind the rest (or words to that effect) in terms of fitness levels. Get him on laps up rivvy pike!
