How a team with gates of 8000 or so, in the second division can pay a man £38k per week is beyond me

Who is being paid £38K per week? Surely not McClean?boltonboris wrote: ↑Fri Aug 20, 2021 1:22 pmHow a team with gates of 8000 or so, in the second division can pay a man £38k per week is beyond me

Right - ah well - parachute money innit? Which highlights my point about why as it stands we've fck all and no chance of sitting in the top end of the championship.
That's alright with me when you think what's going on up there.

Is he really gonna give a flying feck about chasing down a striker at 0-0 in the 93rd minute? We had plenty of mercenary types through the door that year (Keith Andrews)…young, hungry or players with a point to prove is where it’s at.

Dunno Baps has done a stellar job for us. You can't beat experience - you always need some. It does very much depend on the situation and how the experience is used.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Fri Aug 20, 2021 3:01 pmIs he really gonna give a flying feck about chasing down a striker at 0-0 in the 93rd minute? I read Evatt really talking this lad up the other week. Sounds a really promising keeper, and perhaps one with a chance of the first team down the line.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Thu Aug 19, 2021 4:05 pmSaw something about how well the other loaned keeper was doing at colls midweek.
Edit: That's Bury-born Luke Hutchinson, for anyone who may be wondering.

In passing, just noted this from Solskjaer: "it has to be the right loan, right move, right club, right way of playing for any of our youngsters"
I still think we'd be an attractive loaning option (close by, good football) and wouldn't be at all surprised if one of their lads ended up here

It sounds like they are going to send Elanga out on loan, but as you previously noted, he's highly likely to have takers in the second tier, if not the lower rungs of the Prem.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Fri Aug 20, 2021 4:00 pmIn passing, just noted this from Solskjaer: "it has to be the right loan, right move, right club, right way of playing for any of our youngsters"

Another player who I just read the rags may send on loan, and who may be much more attainable by the likes of us, is Shola Shoretire. He is tender in years at just 17, but word is he's the best player in their academy, so potentially still a game changer at League One level.

To be fair he's always struck me as nothing less than 100% bodies on the line committed. The money is mad though.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Fri Aug 20, 2021 3:01 pmIs he really gonna give a flying feck about chasing down a striker at 0-0 in the 93rd minute? I'm sure the first time they went up the owner made a point of saying he wasn't going to just bank-roll it all. Not sure I believed him like, but all pretence seems to have gone there.

Makes you wonder why a billionaire would purchase a club as small as Bournemouth, because let’s be honest, they’re never going to achieve big gates however well they do and thus he’s always going to either have to find players to sell on, or just continually subsidise the club. Sadly, the sport we used to know has long gone and been replaced by only how deep an owners pockets are.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Thread.
(I think) his dad bought it, essentially as a toy. Which is pretty sad. 100% hard agree with I think DSB the other day who said he'd rather w were self sufficient in the champo then chasing that mad dragon. Last few years (and Bury) make you appreciate it.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Thread.
I do agree on the sustainability point Prufrock and also not chasing a PL spot but the fact is that even just to remain in the Championship takes deep pockets these days and in order to stay there we will need to invest in good players who demand higher wages. I don’t want to be a yo yo club between L1 and the Championship like the Rotherham’s and Wycombe’s who can’t and won’t afford that investment. Fair play to the likes of Tony Stewart at Rotherham who insists he won’t risk the clubs future by over speculating but I suppose it depends where you want to see the club exist.
There are a number of clubs who accept where they are in the lower divisions and are happy to stay there year after year because they understand they can’t compete financially at higher levels and they don’t have demanding fan bases but we aren’t one of those and I believe the majority of Wanderers fans rightly expect us to be Championship at least. I think yo yoing between the PL and Championship is fine if you use the PL riches to grow the club without over reaching and in fact when we were doing that some time ago, I think it was the time I enjoyed the most because every season we had something to fight for, progress or survival. We will never compete with the top six again but we can certainly gain from the riches available sensibly, as Burnley and others have shown, without wrecking our finances.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Thread.
Just a word in keeping with the current topic of owners :
Football clubs are like buildings/property, ie; after so long maintenance becomes a major issue. Not just grounds and pitch etc, but players are just part of that maintenance (sadly), because even lower league players expect rich lifestyles from the game, ever on the rise in keeping with the cost of living (hmph) On property maintenance, our own Unibol stadium is a miniature Forth Bridge in the making because of the amount of corrosive metal work in its design and build that has to be treated and painted every so often at considerable expense.
Somewhere we'll reach a ceiling and (heaven forbid) there won't be an Eddie Davies to bail us out this time. Our current owners and management have stabilised the club finances to a degree (and I speak generally, not form any financial know-how) but our glory days at high levels are in the past tense. Ambition is a wonderful thing but, like all else, it has a sell-by date. In short, it can all go sour in a very short time. The badges and proud .F.C. on football shirts have been replaced by demanding blatant advertising and outside influences that rule what was a sport.Despite teams having almost junior school age levels, they all dream of owning Bentleys and being super stars. Realistically, we can still only have eleven of them on the field at once. How many of thousands dream of being one of those?
I think what I'm saying, is where is the line on idealism and common sense and where will it all blow up like a November thunder flash? It's already lost the plot except in the minds of the over-rich billionaires. Just a view.
