Saw that advertised and thought nothing of it.. Will give it a go...Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Tue Oct 05, 2021 3:54 pmHas anyone else watched / been watching The North Water? Five part series on the I Player starring Colin Farrell and Stephen Graham. We watched episode four last night.
I'm surprised that there hasn't been more of a song and dance made about this because it's bloody superb. As bleak as hell, but superb nonetheless.
One line of blurb I saw described it as; A disgraced surgeon joins an Arctic whaling expedition - a voyage to the edge of reason, brutality and humanity.
Yep, that's about it.
Been watching Squid Game this weekend.. Jesus H Christ. Like Oldboy meets Lord of the Flies

Not seen The North Water Bruce, but just finished watching The Dublin Murders (too muddled) and The Pembroke Murders.(Welsh Police Procedural) Passable, but not great.

I do love ‘The Great British Bake Off’ but Noel and Matt are really unfunny and irritating!

Painfully unfunny in the IT Crowd.

The genius was making celebrities feel uncomfortable. Only worked for a short time but when it did the genius was huge.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Wed Oct 06, 2021 12:11 pmMy interpretation contains equally as much comic genius.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Wed Oct 06, 2021 12:02 pmIts UrrrrrrrrvaaaaavuuuuuuuuuBruce Rioja wrote: ↑Wed Oct 06, 2021 12:00 pmOf course. I'm a few episodes into " Spiral" a French Police procedural with sub-titles on B.B.C I player. The defence lawyer in this makes Anna Maxwell Martin from Line of Duty look like a real pussy cat. Really violent with all the ingredients.

Re: What are you watching tonight?
Chris Morris's treatment of celebrities is (I prefer well thought through, it's not 'genius') Making people feel uncomfortable simply by making a dick of yourself in a 'look at me - aren't I just so zany ' kind of way most certainly isn't. Still, unto each, their own.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Wed Oct 06, 2021 12:28 pmThe genius was making celebrities feel uncomfortable. Found it OK (series 1). Thought the prosecutor was great.TANGODANCER wrote: ↑Wed Oct 06, 2021 3:22 pmI'm a few episodes into " Spiral" a French Police procedural with sub-titles on B.B.C I player. Dublin Murders - bit weird- but some decent twists.
Pembroke - OK if that's your bag

Love Chris Morris too. Just early shooting stars was brilliant. I get its not to everyone's tastes like. Mind neither was the day today or Brass Eye.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Wed Oct 06, 2021 5:18 pmChris Morris's treatment of celebrities is (I prefer well thought through, it's not 'genius') Making people feel uncomfortable simply by making a dick of yourself in a 'look at me - aren't I just so zany ' kind of way most certainly isn't. Re: What are you watching tonight?
Very true. As a teenager I struggled with most of Monty Python and would say so. Then I wondered how many of those reciting grindingly unfunny lines from Holy Grail and Life of Brian and who would've had me burned as a Heretic at the time possibly agreed with me, but didn't want to be seen as not being 'with it'?BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Thu Oct 07, 2021 9:11 am

I always found the TV stuff Monty Python did largely unfunny. I thought the films though were fantastic.
Anyroad. Murder in Tiger Bay. 3 parter. Compelling yet infuriating look at a miscarriage of justice from the late 80s.

Pretty much agree. Life of Brian is one of my all time favourites. Holy Grail also funny, but Meaning of Life I didn't like at all.Harry Genshaw wrote: ↑Thu Oct 07, 2021 12:58 pmI always found the TV stuff Monty Python did largely unfunny. I thought the films though were fantastic.
TV show was largely unfunny with the odd highlight.
Bit like one of those bands where you hear a few catchy singles then buy the album and it goes to the charity shop.
