Think that's the 10th time this season we've conceded 2 or more.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sun Nov 07, 2021 5:09 pmAll our problems lie off the ball and defensively. Crewe is absolutely massive now. If Evatt doesn’t spend all week working on defensive shape and structure and find a way to get 0 against then questions need asking. A non league side cut us open far too easily and it’s been happening since August. Far far too long. Fix it now or admit you cannot.

Well you can upload all the modem coaching phrases you like but it remains a fact that if you are more likely to concede 2 a game than not you will lose more games than not. Clean sheets still rule. Our defending this season has been consistently shambolic.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Sun Nov 07, 2021 5:17 pmThink that's the 10th time this season we've conceded 2 or more.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sun Nov 07, 2021 5:09 pmAll our problems lie off the ball and defensively. Good points.
Doyle has scored 2 in 2.
Kachunga got his 1st for Bolton.
Another game closer to Jones returning.
We're still in the draw.
Stockport away is one for the book.
Evatt surely has to see that Baptiste is past it(coach role maybe)?
Evatt recognised that John is lazy in defence.

Kachunga was lucky (hope that’s what he needed), but the one place not to aim that own was at the keeper!

Not at all bothered about the cup, however this team has no leaders, no characters, no fighters - all this tip tappy slow shite with the centre backs needs to change, its dire / rubbish it just lets the opposition get back & re organise. Our football apart from the odd minute or two a game is slow and turgid, there is no intensity to our play, the players looked content to draw that game, we have gone seriously backwards this last few months and Evatt looks like he doesn't have a clue how to change things.
Our play at times is so lethargic - I don't want to say something's isn't right motivationally or attitude wise with the players but something isn't quite right, we are so soft as a group of players its like they are not really that bothered, we are basically a one man team - without Dapo we would be well & truly fcuked IMO. Our defending is shambolic, amateur - Sunday league level, no leadership no organisation, no defensive discipline - and Santos is no captain IMO.
Baptiste is clearly past it & I really wouldn't want him anywhere near a coaching role we are already awful defensively I can't see him coaching making us better or more solid at the back.
I also agree with the Crewe game being massive for Evatt.

We owe Dixon one for that great sprint out to save what could have been a pretty certain goal. If we have to give Baptiste the ball, better he just leathers it towards the opposition box because he goes backwards far too often with passes. We got bullied good and proper and the ref was no friend to us. We're very lucky to get a second chance, but we'll have to improve drastically or be out. .

I don’t think there’s something not right with the players, but absolutely there is some steel missing. MJ Williams can’t do it on his own - needs some help. There’s only Santos I’m happy with in that back four. Aimson should have played today and is worth a run now, surely that’s Baps done. John…I dunno his fitness hasn’t been there but he’s disappointed me this season. Jones can’t get fit soon enough. Need another midfielder who can put themselves about.

Is it out of the realms that "Sarcevic" might be the antagonist and his position became untenable?

But Evatt says it was in the clubs best interests - if Sarce had forced it club would be able to say.

I don't think we did i.e. the supporters, was it not Evatt who decided that we no longer needed Sarce ? Evatt has now resorted to his bullshitting post match interviews, he thinks that we bossed the game from start to finish and that it was just two poor sloppy goals conceded - was he asleep in the 2nd half.

Without wishing to dent the optimism, I was worried by his performance, though. Or certainly the part of it that involves inserting orb into onion bag. He had several very presentable chances and really should have sewn the game up. I feel for the fella and I'd never decry his workrate or decency, but I worry that his slump is going on and on; how long till a slump becomes a new reality?DJBlu wrote: ↑Sun Nov 07, 2021 5:44 pmGood points.

Evatt recognised that John is lazy in defence.
As football fans we love to think about corners being turned, season-changing moments, that sort of thing. The idea was that if he scored, somehow anyhow, suddenly he'd be back to being a free-scoring, free-spirited goal machine. He's not. He scored a penalty in midweek and one in open play today and he was still making the wrong choices. Yes, some came at him quickly, but that second-half one where he was essentially unmarked on 18 yards and placed it wide of goal... that one will surely be playing behind his eyelids tonight.
Again: not to decry Doyler, whom I like an awful lot. But I'm worried he may be getting close to an age where we have to wonder if something's gone forever. I truly hope not.
And of course the defence is shit. Lloyd Isgrove is a winger playing at full-back, and I'm starting to think the same of Declan John. Then there's dear old Baps, another lovely bloke who should never agin have to stand a round within the town boundaries, but dear me. Our season started with him in central defence and us conceding three; he was rested in midweek and we kept a clean sheet against a Championship side; he came back in and we conceded three again. His next league start was at Charlton, where he both gave away the ball and then didn't track his man for the opening goal we thankfully came back from; the next league start was Plymouth, which was such a horror show we had no hope of coming back.
Credit to Stockport, who defended well (i didn't recognise it) and broke well too. And as you say, DJb, there are reasons to be cheerful. But there are also reasons to be fearful. Our style will always be open but we don't have to be gormless too. And our players have to be better. Roll on January.

Ha,ha. We were lucky not to lose and got a football lesson from non-league hoofers. Our "too cool for school" football was way second best. Long way to go again.Bertie Wooster wrote: ↑Sun Nov 07, 2021 6:07 pmuote]

The post match presser, as Bertie suggests, is becoming all too familiar.
Dominated the space between each box.
Didn't hit the final ball.
Just let two in again.
You mean, exactly the same dog that ate our homework last week?

I don’t think any of our defenders are good defenders. Not one. Santos is half hearted in his defending. Looks nice on the recovery but that’s because he’s all too often caught out in the first place. Not a leader. Doesn’t do the basics.
And bar Aimson who I’ve not seen enough of the others we have are either past it or the same mould.
We need two centre halves who are defenders first.
And a midfield player who is a scrapper and physically dominant to go with MJ.
I don’t think going forwards we are close to as bad as we are defensively. A striker and a supplier would of course be necessary but unless we fix the back line I worry we will be in big trouble.

Re: FA Cup 1st Round: Stocky Tony’s County (H) Sun 7th Nov @ 3pm
8 corners and not a single one of those looked threatening from a Bolton perspective. If anything their chance to get a third goal came about as a result of ineptitude from our set pieces. If we're not a fan of playing set pieces the way they're intended from an attacking POV then whats the point in filling the box with all our players, surely that leaves us at risk on the counter.
All in all, I enjoyed today's game. We shouldn't be conceding two soft goals like that, not at the level we aspire to be.

Re: FA Cup 1st Round: Stocky Tony’s County (H) Sun 7th Nov @ 3pm
Our first goal was a textbook example of what we've been needing to do. A quick through pass met with a first-time cross into the six-yard box before the opposition defence can even begin to set themselves, leaving Doyle in enough space to finish the move easily. Sadly, it proved to just be a temporary, although admittedly good, response to us conceding the first goal (again). Not long after, we reverted to type - dominant in posession but slow, ponderous and confused going forward.
As for our defensive organisation - or lack of it - it's just inexcusable. Their second goal shouldn't have happened. Three of our players in and around their player and he still manages to get through. Not good enough.
Although I admire the attempt at aiming for football artistry and would hate for us to abandon that thinking permanently, this team has serious deficiences and there are no signs of them being addressed. It's not acceptable to me to just claim we're trying to play a particular system and simply have to get better at playing it. The job of the manager is to get the best out of their resources and this poor run of results has gone on long enough now for Evatt to give serious thought to whether the players he currently has available to him might be more suited to something more basic.

If you score twice at home you should be winning the game, end of. The fact we don’t have attacking players to go and score 3, 4, 5 every week just makes it more obvious that the wank defending is where the issue is.
Santos and Johnston are both players good enough for this level…whether they work as a pair is a reasonable question. He fecked up not upgrading the full back cover on both sides but again it should be back to basics and working on clean sheets. The worry is he doesn’t have it in him at the moment - big month November, if we concede 6 goals at home to Crewe, Donny and Cheltenham he’s in trouble for me.
