Strange commentary to be honest. The points he makes about the bowling and fielding are pertinent, but feels like he's trying to boost batting morale and mighta over compensated by a lot.

Hope I'm wrong, but Crawley for Burns feels like a muppet shuffle. Bairstow going to have to find bygone days, which last couple of years hasn't looked likely...we've lost a significant part of our batting, in Woakes..but got some variation in bowling attack which is good...

As for the commentary, I'm pleased to hear Gower's voice again but it would be helpful if he wasn't a split second ahead of the video footage. He's audibly gasping at the bowler's delivery before it's even pitched for crying out loud.

Well you get high quality bowling coming down the track as a test opening bat. If it's a one off, you say fair do's...when your second wicket has managed the lowest score of any test playing nation that's played more than 9 tests in a year, there's something terribly wrong...up to 50 ducks now...the government should order a lockdown.

There are only 2 tests this year where we’ve not been bowled out for under 200. I’m not sure how long it’ll take to sort the batting out. Years realistically. We’ve only had Burns and Foakes debut in the last 6 years and average over 30. That’s almost a generation of shit players. We need to magically produce a test standard top 6 which will take ages. By the time the next set of decent players come through Root will be thinking of hanging up his boots. We’re going to be shit for a while.

It’s more than that. We have a bunch of mentally lazy batsmen. They don’t want to work hard and apply themselves. Lazy, lacklustre and a disgrace. None of them deserve any more caps. Bring them home and boo them consistently. They are treated far far too well. No fall out at all. They need to feel how we are appalled at their lack of fight and character.
