It worked. Save that dance, we may need it again..Prufrock wrote: ↑Sat Jan 08, 2022 8:24 pmWas surprised to see how long Australia batted for given the weather forecast. Especially given the series is done. We haven't made 300 in the entire series. The idea that we're chasing anything approaching that is... generous.

Why not? Every test side in history probably had/have to do it sometimes. We're no special-case different. Just thank the Lord for Ben Stokes...BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 9:40 amShowed spirit. But I don’t like the idea of celebrating clinging on for a draw. I suppose it shows how far we’ve fallen from our former glorious selves.

Has there been much celebration?
It all seems quite muted to me.

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Didn't expect to wake up to that without heavy rain. Fair enough. Avoiding a 5-0 is hardly something to write home about by fair feck*. Especially to Crawley, Stokes, Bairstow and Buttler.

Anything that makes Glenn McGrath wrong, is a good thing. Whew. I'm delighted the chaps hung on.

As I mentioned some posts ago, test cricket in this country is dead. You and I were taught to defend our wicket at all costs and to pick off the bad balls. County cricket is now all about towering sixes. We're fecked. It's gone.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 9:40 amShowed spirit. But I don’t like the idea of celebrating clinging on for a draw. Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Just checking, they batted first right? So a decent start?

A good 'early' start, but normal order was soon resumed. 12-3 to 204-5

^^ And they've upped their run rate from what we've previously seen going at a reasonable 4 per over...looks like one eye on the weather...
Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Robinson injured too, which leaves us with Broad, Woakes, Root and Wood who’s being smashed around the park. Great start but once again the wheels have well and truly fallen off.
Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Oh smashing. I'd got overly excited once I was pretty confident we hadn't been bowled out first.

I've watched Broad's dismissal of Labuschagne about seven or eight times now. I still haven't the faintest idea as to what it was that he was hoping to do.

In fairness, to display my credentials as a test batsman, I think I've done that too!Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Fri Jan 14, 2022 12:00 pmI've watched Broad's dismissal of Labuschagne about seven or eight times now. I still haven't the faintest idea as to what it was that he was hoping to do.
Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
I was following loosely, but I think Labuschagne was batting in a very unorthodox way to negate the movement our bowlers were getting. It was working for him, but that time while he got himself well outside off to attack Broad’s usual line and length, Broad went fuller and straighter leaving ML unable to shift his movement and falling over.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Fri Jan 14, 2022 12:00 pmI've watched Broad's dismissal of Labuschagne about seven or eight times now. Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Oh thank you so much for introducing me to that site. That's this afternoon written off
The clip 'Asif he smashed his own car windscreen' has just had me howling.
The change in the body language of Asif as he sees his towering shot heading towards his own car.
The moment of impact.
The umpire cheerily signalling a six with the most piss-taking grin.
The site screen which is merely an empty frame next to a white-painted wall.
And finally, the shout of "Asif, can you open the door so we can get our ball back"

Great site Pru. I recommend plenty of that. But that properly televised stuff. They need to put a bell in it.

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Does 170-7 ( at this moment) give a little hope we can avoid a total tanking trip up the yellow brick road?

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
No. Not when it turns to 188 all out. They’ll likely pile on a huge lead and we’ll be lucky to make 200 again. It’s just so frustrating watching the same mistakes. Pope will always have a nibble after 3-4 dot balls.TANGODANCER wrote: ↑Sat Jan 15, 2022 9:42 amDoes 170-7 ( at this moment) give a little hope we can avoid a total tanking trip up the yellow brick road?
This is our worst ashes with the bat sine 1888…..
