Yeah, that'd be fair enough. Also shows maybe where our budgets are really, compared to what fans think.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 5:38 pmIf that's the case and I were Dempsey, I'd be tempted to sit tight, play the hero, and get a better-paid job in summer. He'll be 27 in September.
What I would say is that at 26 he maybe has one more big deal left in him after this one, so it's not an absolute "take the money" situation. He can still position himself to get that final big offer at 29.

Sure. But it depends on the differential.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 5:45 pmWhat I would say is that at 26 he maybe has one more big deal left in him after this one, so it's not an absolute "take the money" situation. He can still position himself to get that final big offer at 29.
From our side it sounds like we've kinda decided it's better to pay Gills (say) £150k up front; over a 2.5yr contract that's a shade more than a grand per week, which might not win a summertime salary battle. All makes perfect sense. Where I struggle is why the player would agree to it. In the case of an outcast like Charles, fair enough. Morley, stepping up, fair enough.
It's all guesses and fag=packet numbers but if he could get an extra £2kpw over a two-year contract – and you imagine in summer he'd be chasing a 3yr - then that'd be £100k extra in his pocket rather than Paul Scally's. Over a 3yr contract it's an extra £150k. Not world-changing sums but it'll pay a chunk off a mortgage.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
If another team were after him for 20-25% over our offer (very unlikely to be more) then that extra 6 months probably mostly covers him over the course of his deal, with the expectation that he'd be offered new terms before his deal expires if he's staying. If we assume he'd expect to improve his terms after 18-24 months then that extra 6 months with what looks likely to be almost double his terms at Gills (not ITK, but from talking to people he's on close to 100k per year, plus bonuses) does the job.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 6:08 pmSure. He comes to us and gets that extra 6 months on better money. If it works he gets a new deal within 2 years and improves his situation again. If it doesn't he likely moves on, gets another signing fee and can still demand good terms.
Makes sense to me, financially and from a footballing view.

It’s where I’d expect.
But Dempsey if he waits might find it’s not as good a set of options as he thinks,

We'll probably get Dempsey but it will be a last day / Monday signing.
It also sounds like IE may be after another forward on loan.

It appears that the Reebok is having a bit of a makeover (with the tax payers money !) - images going around of the 'Macron' East Stand upper tier wording has been replaced with 'Bolton' with a few other internal stadium changes ?

Yan Dhanda. Sky have linked us, Swansea locals are saying we've had an offer to take him accepted. Manager is quoted as saying he has an offer and will likely go on an initial loan.
Can play wide, but a natural '10' if I ever saw one. Lovely player with the ball and extremely creative.

I hope Dempsey is worth all this effort in the long run. I have no idea how good he is or will be in our system.Bertie Wooster wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 7:45 pmWe'll probably get Dempsey but it will be a last day / Monday signing.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
General consensus is that he's too good for League One, but moved to the Championship too early. Had a falling out with Joey Barton and had to then figure out rebuilding his rep after what had been a positive start at Fleetwood. Gills seem to have nothing but praise for him. Good skill set, attacks well, tackles like a pit bull; but not technically exceptional even at this level. Set apart from others by his attitude and the mental side of the game. Makes excellent decisions, never gives up and works his arse off.irie Cee Bee wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 8:03 pmI hope Dempsey is worth all this effort in the long run. As ever, most transfers in football fail; but I'd expect everyone to love the guy.

From what I can see he’s not played a game of football since 2019.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 7:59 pmYan Dhanda. Sky have linked us, Swansea locals are saying we've had an offer to take him accepted. Manager is quoted as saying he has an offer and will likely go on an initial loan.

It doesn’t fill me with a lot of joy tbh.
EDIT: ok different stats site says he has. So maybe be ok. Wonder if that’s instead of Dempsey?

Involved in about 30 games for Swansea last season. Did beautiful work against Reading in the League Cup back in August and then again against Plymouth, who couldn't get near him.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 8:34 pmFrom what I can see he’s not played a game of football since 2019.

Has certainly struggled with the step up to Championship football, though.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
Regarding "instead of Dempsey"...I hope not. Really different players, but yeah if we intended Dempsey for '10' could well be.
You'd think we're trying for both, though, if we are a distance along with Dhanda and the bid for Dempsey is still lodged. With how hard we'd pushed for Dempsey it'd be very odd if we left him hanging with the bid neither withdrawn nor declined.

Someone tweeted that Evatt said at the AGM there's a signing close that isn't Dempsey.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
Sjy report says he’s also linked with Burton, Crewe, Plymouth and DC United - owned by Swansea’s owners - and that he wants to go where he’ll get most first team football. Can we guarantee that? Squad’s looking fairly front-loaded…GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 7:59 pmYan Dhanda. Sky have linked us, Swansea locals are saying we've had an offer to take him accepted. Dunno. Setting aside the usual Evatt "nobody is guaranteed a spot in my side" stuff, Dhanda would come into a side with no natural out and out 10 option in it and which is currently playing a system that needs a 10. I have no idea how we'd fit all our best players in, but he'd probably be one of them and he fits the system.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 12:22 amSjy report says he’s also linked with Burton, Crewe, Plymouth and DC United - owned by Swansea’s owners - and that he wants to go where he’ll get most first team football. Bolton News reporting that Evatt has warned his fringe players to either go out on loan where they have the chance or face being de-registered. Fully agree with that sentiment.

Delf certainly needs to go. You'd think Darcy would benefit from another loan too. Possibly also Thomason, depending who we get in. Obviously Thomo doesn't need to be deregistered; but he needs to be playing now, having had a few goes in the team.

Darcy needs a chance. Thomason has had one. Isn’t up to it. I’d like to see Darcy afforded the same basic chance.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 8:21 amImportantly also says they have offers.sonicthewhite wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 8:17 amBolton News reporting that Evatt has warned his fringe players to either go out on loan where they have the chance or face being de-registered. Talk seems to be more focussed on who to farm out to make way for the superstars. Hope we're walking a bit before breaking into a sprint . Playing Sunderland not really the best time for experimenting.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
Thomason feels more useful to have around to me - it’s tackling midfielders we look light on assuming the signing is a number 10 type.
Delf needs to move on. Be nice if we are in a position to loan Thomason out as well but would need a signing.
