Aimson and Sadlier are two who I could see asking for a move elsewhere.
Re: Deal or no deal? - Summer 2022 Transfer gossip!
Ok, so who are we seeing as most likely to be moved on then? I've got nothing better to do, so I'll give my thoughts on all our permanently contracted players (excluding B teamers):
Joel Dixon - He might think he can get a starting gig in League Two, but I doubt we'd be too keen to move him on at this point. If he's really itching to move then I guess we'd promote Hutchinson, but that wouldn't be ideal.
George Johnston - Won't move unless we receive a significant cash offer, but that seems extremely unlikely.
Ricardo Santos - New contract signed in the summer suggests Rico is not likely to go. Perhaps a slim chance that a Championship club comes in with an offer, but you'd think it would need to be huge for us to say yes.
Will Aimson - A dependable squad member who I don't think we'd want to lose, but is clearly good enough to start for plenty of teams in League One, so I wouldn't be surprised if he is pushing for a move. I think he's one of the more likely to go if we are presented with a clear upgrade.
Eoin Toal - Just signed, so not going anywhere.
Declan John - If he doesn't feel as though he's going to be first choice at LWB/LB then perhaps he might want to go. Again, we'd need a very good alternative lined up, and a club at least willing to take on his contract, and even maybe pay a small fee. I'd say he's a possible, but still quite unlikely to move.
Jack Iredale - Again, joined too recently to be moved.
Gethin Jones - Vice-captain, key squad member and probably unlikely to have many suitors willing to pay a fee for him, so not going to move.
MJ Williams - Everything I just said about Jones could also be applied to Williams.
Kieran Lee - Has the ability to be a starter for most teams in our league, but doesn't have the requisite fitness and coupled with his age means he's highly likely to stay until the end of the season.
Aaron Morley - Perhaps an outside chance that a Championship club could make a bid for him, but it would have to be crazy money for us to accept at this point.
Kyle Dempsey - Just establishing himself in our team and extremely unlikely to move.
Josh Sheehan - We're going to want to give him a chance to prove himself after his injury. Could be one to move in January if he's not getting regular game time.
George Thomason - I thought he'd be a strong candidate for a loan to League Two/National League, but Evatt seems to love him. That said, I do think if we're presented with the opportunity to sign a top defensive midfielder then he will be loaned out.
Dapo Afolayan - Another where it would take a big bid and having a suitable replacement lined up, but I see it as slightly more likely than Santos.
Kieran Sadlier - As discussed, he doesn't really have a natural position in our current system, but is obviously good enough to start for plenty of League One sides. I could see him being reluctantly moved on for the benefit of the wider squad.
Elias Kachunga - Seems a good character and well liked at the club, but is not going to be a regular starter for us and at this point in his career I'm sure he wants to be playing more. The issue would be finding another club to take him, but if we can do that I could see him going.
Lloyd Isgrove - Isn't going to move now after coming back from a bad injury.
Jon Dadi Bodvarsson - He clearly enjoys being here, will get a good number of starts when fit and I doubt there would be many clubs willing to pay a fee for him, so he stays.
Dion Charles - Similar comments for JDB, although perhaps there would be clubs willing to pay for him. Overall I'd say highly likely to stay.
Amadou Bakayoko - Something of a cult hero already at Bolton, and gets enough game time that I doubt he's agitating for a move. Very likely to stay.

Pretty much bob on for me other than Baka. We're well stocked on forwards but it's an area where if the right player comes up you get them, no matter what, and Baka is 4th choice for those two spots up top. I suspect if it came to it we'd rather move on Kacha, but I also reckon the latter is on higher wages (and is more versatile). Not expecting Baka to go, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Re: Deal or no deal? - Summer 2022 Transfer gossip!
Some very interesting quotes there. He doesn’t particularly want to let any of his squad go, but will do if the offer is right for the player; he’s still interested in strengthening, and has had clubs actively offering him players to develop. Makes me feel less like I’ve been wasting time combing through youth teams….
BTW the bit after the question mark isn’t a tracker in that it follows you round the internet forever more; it just says what referred you to the target link in that specific instance. Useful for companies to see which platforms/partners/links work well and therefore conversely which ones they should leave us alone on.

Re: Deal or no deal? - Summer 2022 Transfer gossip!
There are three interlinked reasons players move: the manager doesn’t want them; someone else does; they want out. The mixture changes per transfer, but they’re the things to watch for.
I don’t think anybody at the club currently desperately wants out, and I no longer think we have anyone Evatt is desperate to upgrade (compared to Mascoll, Comley, Gordon etc). There’s a chance Sadlier is getting slightly miffed but I doubt say Aimson is banging on the door.
In a related note, the players out of contract at the end of the season all have yet to prove themselves indispensable or irreplaceable (with respectful nods to JDB and MJ). Remember we are squad-building with at least half a hope of being in the Champo next year, which would require some churn - much easier if you have upgradable players (say for example Izzy) falling out of contract. But those players will be hoping to either stay on board or prove themselves worthy of a good contract elsewhere. In short, August isn’t the best time for a player to riskily jump ship; January, if it’s not working for them, is the prime time to do that.
So I wouldn’t expect a queue of malcontents outside Evatt’s door, but if we get the chance to upgrade - even with loanees, whose contracts would effectively be as long as those lapsing fringe players - then some might be gently pushed toward the exit. Like a few, I suspect that if he had a magic ejector button Evatt might upgrade Kacha, whom he seems to like but might be on a bigger butty than his output deserves. I imagine that any of our other strikers who found himself in Kacha’s position for That Chance Against Villa would at least have asked the goalkeeper a question.

You'd think Sadlier is too recent an arrival to be moving on, but the selection of Kachunga in midfield must've felt like a right kick in the nads. Would be very surprised if he went.

Fair enough, LE. Who do you think is most likely to go then?
Re: Deal or no deal? - Summer 2022 Transfer gossip!
Thomason and Dixon. Possibly even Sheehan on a short loan.

When it's this late in a window it's very rarely cut and dried. It's probably not a case of "this one and this one will go", we will be looking at what options we have to come in and what interest there is for a variety of players.
If we were suddenly able to reach an agreement for Cole Stockton (purely as an example, not saying we are trying for that), I daresay we'd happily let either Kachunga or Bakayoko go to make it happen. It would matter less who we'd like to let go than who wants one of them. We might even let more than one player go to get a player like that.
The same is true of the other possible outs. It'll depend more on the market than our desires. It's wheeling and dealing time, rather than the sort of ideal planning we might have envisioned early in the window. We could be in for some surprises.

Yeah agree with this. It’s not always a case of choice. It’s what players we are able to get what positions they are in and which of ours are in demand elsewhere.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Fri Aug 26, 2022 6:06 amWhen it's this late in a window it's very rarely cut and dried. The Stockton example is a good one. I’m sure we aren’t looking to sell Baka but if Cole was affordable and someone wanted Baka it would be madness not to do it.
On a sensible note whilst it wouldn’t solve the issues behind Stockton surely would improve our goals and Baka as likeable as he is looks unlikely to fulfill his song!

Isn't this sorta normal for any business - sure you plan for ideal, but you rarely get it. The targets you've been set typically don't get altered either....You just sorta have to try and fix it best you can.

Always thought we needed to add one quality midfielder from higher up the league before the window closes to go up. On todays showing, I have adjusted that to 3 better players needed to be promoted. In addition to the above mentioned midfielder, we also need to add a quality forward and a quality CH. Better squad we have yes, but not sure we have what it takes to get into the playoffs.

I think most of us thought we needed a quality CH. Then that was Iredale and now he's a LWB...The problem I currently see is that they all have a mistake in them. I think Big Ric has it in his contract that his performance is only judged from Jan 1.irie Cee Bee wrote: ↑Sat Aug 27, 2022 5:03 pmAlways thought we needed to add one quality midfielder from higher up the league before the window closes to go up. Priority has to be a left wing back. We have Toal and Aimson at cb and not sure we can fix our defensive issues just with additions. Coaching needs to improve.
We don’t have a good enough midfield and Dempsey and Morley for me don’t cut it. Morley is too passive and I’ve no idea what Dempsey adds most of the time. An attacking mid who doesn’t score or a number 8 who can’t impact the game. Chases shadows for me. Morley nice on the ball but don’t think it’s enough. The Wycombe game showed their ability to run but when teams deny us the space I’m not sure they have it to open the play up.

My views are unchanged, unfortunately.
We're 4 short. We will not get 4 in.

I just thought I'd point out that I'm a subscriber to your theory that the club's recruitment this summer has fallen quite significantly below expectations within the club and I think there might be a sense that they are still reeling from it.
That's nothing more than an assumption on my part, though.

Rumours indicate that Hymn sheets will be re-printed to include the up-dated old favourite "Let's hang on to what we've got" ....May only be a rumour mind...

An actual rumour!
I can't see this one being true tbh and I'm fine with that as I don't think he'd add anything we haven't already got.

12 goals for Ipswich last season. But it's notable than 11 of them were by November 2nd, under the otherwise hapless Paul Cook. Under Kieran McKenna, whose football is much more Evattian, he scored one goal in 21 appearances – although those appearances did only total 936 minutes and he did add three assists.brommers95 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 30, 2022 4:36 pmAn actual rumour!

Still, nice to hear a rumour. When was the last one? July? is Agent McKnownowt still wearing his Fossey wig?

Must have been the Eoin Toal rumour at the start of July, almost two months agoDave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue Aug 30, 2022 4:50 pm12 goals for Ipswich last season.
