If Matete is available within the wage structure I'd welcome him. He'll bring other issues with him in terms of how we play and who he comes in for, being a hobbit, but he's certainly a good player. He's not the "MJ but better" people were after, though. We'd need to adapt.

He’d win us the ball back higher up the pitch. There are times you’d want MJ and times you’d want him. And even times you’d want them both in.

That would definitely give us more bite in midfield in a more athletic package. He is small though as you say.

BWFCi: ta.

Interesting to see what shakes out, but I'm confident something will. Maybe somethings.

If we can get Beck I’d be relatively relieved as I feel wing back is one of our Achilles heels and I’m not convinced John is the answer as things stand.

It would free Iredale up for what I think is his more natural position in the back three and probably give us a better balance all round.

After that I guess we just see what shakes out. I’d prioritise a midfield player but have a feeling Evatt will be looking further up the pitch still.

Though the Beck deal now sounds in some doubt with championship clubs entering the field of play.

A couple of clubs in the Championship have now made formal offers for Beck, according to the Liverpool Echo.

I'm happy to wait and see what we do.

The names being mentioned improve us, so we'll see.

Would you take Bonne? Only been linked with him and Beck thus far. Matete is just idle talk no suggestion we are in there.

I think Bonne's career is the kind of reclamation project Evatt would fancy.

Bit of pace, likes a battle, good off both feet etc. If someone can get him to stop being so streaky he'll score at this level and he could at the level above too, if he really went for it. He was devastating for Ipswich before he and his partner went through that horrible tragedy.

He's a risk, but then who do we sign who isn't?

Nixon is now also suggesting it's "probable" John will leave.

Always a risk for the loaning club: do you send them to a better level but risk they get fewer minutes? Remember Liverpool have just been burned by sending this lad to Portugal to collect arse-splinters.

Maybe a Champo club will cross their heart and promise to play him regularly, but what we have in our favour is that Liverpool can clearly see we are treating Bradley in exactly the way they would want.

Oh and of course our "style of play [is] a massive attraction".

Liverpool want him here. Final decision will be the player's.

Liverpool wanting and a youth player doing would, you imagine, be somewhat closely linked. But, football... :conf:

I can see the issue being he has an injury that was scanned yesterday so….might not be ideal for a move.

I would be surprised if he doesn’t come here given his situation and Bradley already being here. I guess you just never know.

A lad in Beck's position will have proper representation and you never know what advice they will give. He's only just 20, but he's having a harder time than Bradley convincing the coaches he will make the cut and it could be they want him to audition for one of these Championship clubs. It's also entirely possible it's his reps who have shopped him to those clubs whilst he's here with us and those bids are a result of them trying to make that happen.

Impossible for us to know and I suppose that's the excitement of the window.

We have to hope the interest is organic, because his name got into the media, and his agents are listening to Liverpool.

Gaffer speaks.
He’s a player we’re aware of, he’s a player that we like. Obviously we’ve monitored his progress like we have Conor (Bradley). Our relationship (with Liverpool) is very very good and we understand exactly what they’ve got, who they have got and how they’d affect what we do. There’s work to be done with that one but he’s a player that we’re aware of and we’re monitoring and we’ll see what happens.

What we’re trying to do is give ourselves competition but different competition and I think if we bought in a left sided player, it would be different to what Declan is and different to what Jack Iredale is. Jack Iredale for instance still has that ability to drop into centre back and build progressively from there. It’s not like we’re trying to replace anybody, I think we’re just trying to add different options to the squad.

He signed his first pro contract in June 2020, signed a better deal in November 2020, and then in July 2021 they gave him a five-year deal.

I've no reason to doubt your sources but equally if they're considering getting shut, it's quite the volte-face from 13 months ago.

Doesn't feel (from the outside) like a now-or-never that he either tears up the Champo this season or slings his hook. But then I guess their funnel is savage.

I don't think Liverpool are interested in getting shut at this stage. I do think sometimes clubs have interactions with reps and think, "Hang on a minute, sunshine, what's that about?"

I'm not some gilded window into the world of Liverpool FC, but I don't think they'll be too amused if a particular move is pushed for in the next couple of days.

If talk he’s already trained with us is true it would be quite a change but like I say you never know in football.

Iles and Nixon both seem confident he comes here so I guess we just wait for now.
