Same. My pick was Nicky Cadden, but I think getting this lad in is probably more exciting - though with a less certain "product."BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Wed Aug 31, 2022 5:37 pmYep. It just feels exciting to get a 20 year old who Liverpool have handed a contract to. Hope it works out. But feeling better now we have that left sided option I’ve been banging on about all summer.

Did he have to nip back out to finish his paper round off?
May the bridges I burn light your way

Just like Bradley - he looks really young! Hope he lives up to the expectation - I suspect he will be straight in the side…

I'm with you here, Ghosty. Book balancing is supposed to be parr of the cunning plan.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Wed Aug 31, 2022 5:18 pmIFF it happens it could also be a case of balancing books. If this is one of Evatt's "I doubt we can afford it" signings he might be on full whack for the position and we might need to get a similar player out the door.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Wed Aug 31, 2022 5:11 pmInteresting if John goes - swapping a loanee for a permanent - feels a bit more like a ‘must get promoted’ move if we think he improves us.
As things stand, EVatt has said that nobody needs to go. So we'll see.

I very much enjoyed the part where they said he had better financial offers elsewhere.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Wed Aug 31, 2022 9:25 pmI'm with you here, Ghosty. Book balancing is supposed to be parr of the cunning plan.
God knows how much the club's electricity bill is going to be this season, so we need to save a few pennies.

They gonna pay his wages, and the leccy bill every minute he's on the bench, if I'm negotiating it.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Wed Aug 31, 2022 9:38 pmI very much enjoyed the part where they said he had better financial offers elsewhere.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Wed Aug 31, 2022 9:25 pmI'm with you here, Ghosty. This is a great advert for the club itself that City and Liverpool trust Bolton Wanderers with their young protege's. Notice must be being taken by many other clubs at various levels. Well done the club and management. .
Si Deus pro nobis, quis contra nos?

I didn’t get this part. More lucrative for him or for Liverpool? I assume he’d just get paid his full Liverpool contract regardless.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Wed Aug 31, 2022 9:38 pmI very much enjoyed the part where they said he had better financial offers elsewhere.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Wed Aug 31, 2022 9:25 pmI'm with you here, Ghosty. Anyway, seems an exciting signing and hopefully now gives us a real threat on either side.

A propos of nowt, I see Fossey played 90 minutes for Fulham last week in the Carabao
They lost 2-0 at Crawley
Still wouldn’t amaze me to see him come back y’know

It depends on the deal, the players contract etc.
Loaning clubs can be offering bonuses or various fees as inducements to the player, or it might mean Liverpool could have got a better deal.
Any appearance and performance bonuses we're offering to loan players are likely to be a lot lower than those on offer a level above. So if it's that the player could have got more money it'll usually (but not always) be that.
If he's taken a pay cut to come here then fair play to the kid, but that seems unlikely.

It'd be an amazing transfer window if we signed 6 players, all in the defensive unit, and I still felt we were a top centre back short.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 12:45 amA propos of nowt, I see Fossey played 90 minutes for Fulham last week in the Carabao

I really can’t see it now. At wing backs we have the two Liverpool lads, Sadlier as sort of cover on the right, Isgrove and John. I just can’t see us signing Fossey now at all.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 12:45 amA propos of nowt, I see Fossey played 90 minutes for Fulham last week in the Carabao

He's in his last year at Fulham. Would suspect any loan deal here would have to be in Fulham's interests otherwise he's on his way for free (or whatever development value gets attributed). They've already offered him a deal which he turned down, presumably he's being given a chance to stay at Fulham otherwise Fulham lose out. Probably Fulham digging their heels in and not letting him be loaned out knowing it might reflect badly on how he's been developed at a tribunal.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 12:45 amA propos of nowt, I see Fossey played 90 minutes for Fulham last week in the Carabao

I would suspect we would've spoken about a permanent transfer at the end of last season. Fulham would've asked for too much, another loan therefore would've been out of the question and now Bolton, Fulham and Fossey are left in an awkward situation. As we couldn't stump up the cash it seems only sensible that Fossey would look around, hence the links elsewhere in the summer.
We've got Bradley in, which is a good transfer, but it leaves us with a problem for next summer. Fossey would be ideal as a permanent transfer at the end of this season, which may be part of the plan after all.

A mobile ball winner who can play, a proper striker with some pace and in bed with a cup of cocoa by 9pm, please.
Plus a couple of "SHOCK EXIT!" moments, to balance the books and keep the squad lean.

All sensible and fair enough. I just have this odd feeling...Mar wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 9:41 amHe's in his last year at Fulham.
