Bit of a theme in links with Wrexham and Gillingham out the blue...
Link players with two low league placed clubs who happen to have money....funny that!

Aye, we'll be looking at signing players West Ham and Celtic are interested in, next.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 10:58 amBit of a theme in links with Wrexham and Gillingham out the blue...

Are we writing off Isgrove as an option now? I'm not saying we shouldn't, but has there been news of another set back recently?BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 10:29 amNah - sorry to disappoint. An acquaintance is well connected and when I bump into them I get a few good pieces of info but just depends when.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 9:51 amInsane seems to know a few people at the club these days. I'd be interested to know if he has better info on the Sads situation.
As for Sadlier haven't heard anything recently but the 'wantaway' comment I think probably was last I heard after he realised we weren't going to play a system that suits him or has a role for him.
The link to Gillingham having nothing in it would not necessarily be surprising if his agent is working on a move. John was set for Wrexham....I think we both know where that came from!
Will add that if Sadlier goes it leaves more holes - he's RWB cover - the only RWB we have. Currently he's also the only 'striker' or potential striker who is fit and eligible for the cup game too after Kachunga (ahem) and Charles....

Re: January 2023 Transfer Window
Regarding Dapo, someone will need to have a sit down with him if he doesn't go. He either needs to sign a new deal and get his head right for staying here or he needs to treat the next few months as a shop window for a summer move. Either way, he needs to be given a reason to come out firing.
On Isgrove, I have to admit I have written him off, yes. I think he'd have been a questionable wing back option last season. This season, with our aspirations, I'd not be keen at all. Personally I'd move him on if possible, but would happily be proven wrong and it may not be possible to move him anyway.

I asked Iles about Isgrove and he just said he heard he's back in training. For what it's worth, I think he's actually done quite a good job when called upon as a RWB. Obviously not someone who can be relied upon at this point, but if he's fit I wouldn't be averse to him coming back into the rotation.

Re: January 2023 Transfer Window
I like Lloyd. He works really hard and tries to make things happen. I just don't think he has the quality needed for a promotion push. If he were to come in we could "trust him", as it were - as he'd always give his all to the cause. The drop off from Bradley to Isgrove feels huge, though.The_Gun wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 11:48 amI asked Iles about Isgrove and he just said he heard he's back in training. Having been out so long coming back into a league one promotion push? I think that would be disastrous on most levels.The_Gun wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 11:48 amI asked Iles about Isgrove and he just said he heard he's back in training. Given he loves a booking, I'd be surprised if we weren't missing Conor for two games between now and the end of the season, too.

Imminently. He’s on nine yellows, all EFL.
Re: January 2023 Transfer Window
Gethin Jones would be Bradley’s primary back up, no? I’m fine with him coming in to cover for a suspension.

Re: January 2023 Transfer Window
I'd say it depends on oppo. Beck being arguably more attacking than Gethin, Randy could swap over.

Re: January 2023 Transfer Window
He's not a wing back though. And is also primary centre back cover.
We need a squad to deal with what could be quite a busy second half of the season and (hopefully) onward into the play offs.
If we are selling players we need adequate replacements. Leaving ourselves short would be disastrous.
You don't need much of a scenario where say, Toal is injured, Bradley banned and you look very very bare bones suddenly.
Re: January 2023 Transfer Window
Sadlier also isn't a wing back, and barely plays anyway.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 3:01 pmHe's not a wing back though. And is also primary centre back cover.

I agree we want to be positioning ourselves as best as possible, but we're not going to be bringing in a world beater to back up Bradley, and only start in the event he gets suspended.
I personally am fine with Gethin covering that position for the remainder, unless we can bring in a longer term prospect who is happy to warm the bench this season.

Re: January 2023 Transfer Window
We've seen how much difference having an actual wing back (Williams) makes over a centre half (Iredale). So lets not start down that road again. I like Jones and the odd game I can see him covering there sure. But come Feb 1st god forbid Bradley was out long term if Jones was our only cover, a non specialist and also our primary back three cover, you could be looking at a big problem.The_Gun wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 3:42 pmSadlier also isn't a wing back, and barely plays anyway.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 3:01 pmHe's not a wing back though. At least with Sadlier you have him or Jones depending on the situation - do you need a more attacking option etc...whereas without Sadlier Jones is it. And that doesn't fill me with confidence. And an injury at the back at the same time and its deep deep doo doo time.
Why would we want to risk a second half of the season by selling players and not adequately replacing them? Would be madness and just asking for trouble. Evatt made a huge deal about a deep squad after last season showed us the problems of not having one. Why would we thin out now we are 5th and a game away from Wembley? Would be nonsensical to say the least.
Re: January 2023 Transfer Window
Twitter bods mentioning that Dapo was at Lostock saying his goodbyes today, so, if true, it looks like he's a goner.

Re: January 2023 Transfer Window
We're still after Bradley for next season, so we're unlikely to spend in January to cover that position. We might also struggle to find a decent loan there with one already cemented in. Who would loan us a player who is clearly very unlikely to play? Even Beck was expected to get more time.
In an ideal world we'd have two quality right wing backs, but if we manage to achieve that this month it'll be a minor miracle.
I'm not sure you get a better option than Jones in the market this month.

Re: January 2023 Transfer Window
I'm not saying we don't bring anyone in if we sell Sadlier, I just think Jones is a decent enough replacement to have for the RWB position, given we also have Randy who can play there. I wouldn't be looking to bring in a specialist for that slot during this window, as it seems very unlikely we'd get anyone good.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 3:46 pmWe've seen how much difference having an actual wing back (Williams) makes over a centre half (Iredale). The back three cover bit - we do also currently have Santos...BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 3:46 pmWe've seen how much difference having an actual wing back (Williams) makes over a centre half (Iredale). As you say, we're 5th and since Jan have added 1 WB (albeit left), which is an improvement on the squad that got us to 5th in the first place!
