Re: January 2023 Transfer Window
A lot of panic fannies on here, Baka was very likeable but an absolute shite footballer, Dapo was shite in the system we play, and Bod has been injured all season. There's a reason kachunga has been getting so many minutes and it's not because he has dirt on IE. Replacing those three with Shola, Ndulu and another striker can hardly fail to improve the squad.

I count John as already gone.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 8:06 pmJohn can still go. Sads potentially could too, but we'd need to get some more work done than I'd anticipate at this stage. We're probably going to be tight on two strikers. Need at least one very good one.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 7:45 pmWe now simply cannot afford to sell anyone else. We must retain the squad. And add two strikers to it. No other options.
Utter madness if we let Sadlier go now. Would be completely and utterly ridiculous.

We've looked at two Utd players for the summer, as I understand it. No idea if either is concrete, so I won't name them in case they are. I don't think they're Ian's "exciting" option, certainly. Pretty sure he means our new lad.
One is likely to leave Utd this month, the other almost certainly won't until the summer. The one leaving this month I don't think is due here, but I don't have any way of knowing that.

At the minute he's an important impact sub, but if he starts a game it's because much better options are out or cup-tied.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 8:20 pmI count John as already gone.

If we can improve on him this window we definitely should. If not, fine.
Were we to sign the two striker I think we'd all ideally want, the big weakness in the squad becomes that right side of the two defensive positions and Sads is a liability there.
Two strikers, with Sads gone, would give us 6 players who can play striker and at least 4 who can or have played 10 for us.
The obvious player to improve on at that stage is the lad who can't really play RWB and isn't getting a game anywhere else with those numbers in the team.

Dapo - 1 goal every 285 minutesSpartan2 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 8:20 pmA lot of panic fannies on here, Baka was very likeable but an absolute shite footballer, Dapo was shite in the system we play, and Bod has been injured all season. Jon Dad - 1 goal every 144 minutes
Baka - 1 goal every 206 minutes
Kachunga - 1 goal every 715 minutes
That’s this season. And Kachunga has more game time than Bod and Baka. And is only just behind Dapo.
So if there is a reason he’s had so many minutes this season it’s not to make us more likely to score goals.
If those three are all shite…I dread to think.

I think he said Dapo was shite in the current system, not generally.

And his goal record per minute is in the current system. It’s not great. It’s still massively better than Kachungas.sonicthewhite wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 8:47 pmI think he said Dapo was shite in the current system, not generally.

how ever will we cope with this catastrophe!

PPG with Kachunga starting is, I believe, 1.81. Versus 1.69 generally. (That's from memory, though)

One thing - should be easier to persuade strikers they’ll get game time….

Re: January 2023 Transfer Window
A few half-random ideas from looking at underused Champo strikers...
Tyreece Simpson - Ipswich product, scored 9 in 25 at Swindon last season. Joined Huddersfield in summer but got an injury; has struggled to get in the team, and new head coach Mark Fotheringham (who didn’t sign him) has captured two centre-forwards this month. Turns 21 next month.
Jake Beesley - Paul’s lad, who scored 9 in 21 for Rochdale and was (loosely) linked with us but jumped up to Blackpool last January. Scored two on his full debut but again, the manager who signed him has gone – as as his successor – so he must be wondering where he’s at. Another who was injured in autumn and has found it a struggle to get back in – Jerry Yates, Shayne Lavery and Gary Madine are ahead of him. Just turned 26. Over 6ft, and notably keen on pressing, which would please Evatt. As with Lavery, much might depend whether McCarthy wants him.
James Scott - 6ft 2in Scot who Hull signed for £1m and are now happy to let walk away. 22.
Tyler Smith - thought to be available on loan from Hull. Worked well with Evatt at Barrow earlier in his career. Just turned 24.
Sean Maguire - Irish striker with 150+ games for Preston but way down the pecking order. Has been injured but back in training – only to find Ryan Lowe has loaned two Premier-experienced players in Liam Delap and Thomas “don’t call me Tommy” Cannon. At his best, Maguire’s got pace and hold-up play. Once upon a time early in his Preston career he was nicknamed the Irish Diego Costa…
We could make a play for Sheffield United’s Daniel Jebbison, waving a Traf and a Bradley as evidence of how we bring players on, but he’s unlikely to leave Bramall Lane after taking a rare first-team chance by scoring in the FA Cup.
Chris Martin’s out of favour at Bristol City. He’s 34, like, but if you want experience….
Or we could always try to borrow Scott Twine.

Re: January 2023 Transfer Window
Tyreece Simpson is one I wanted in the summer, but once he had Champ options that was him gone. Hes got the most "raw material" potential of anyone on that list.
Tyler Smith I could absolutely see, but would have expected him and Williams to show up at once if we were getting that done.
James Scott would probably be my pick for most Evatt and Markham signing on that list. Massive lad with genuine pace and two good feet. "Lifestyle issues" is the persistent rumour as to why he's not kicked on and has suffered recurring injuries - basically people are saying he's overweight and his body can't take the strain of his athleticism. He's reported to be fit now, though. He'd very much fit the "value" aspect of what we want to do here and has everything about him to have an impact. Again, though, Hull....why would it not have been done if he was who we were after?
I think it's a very good list. Sean Maguire has apparently been told he is in the manager's plans this week, so he's undoubtedly leaving Preston before the window closes.

Cheers, GB. Just threw it together from potential availables - nothing ITK.
You may need to explain (or rewrite) "Sean Maguire has apparently been he is in the manager's plans this week, so he's undoubtedly leaving Preston before the window closes" as I'm not getting it....

As with the managerial kiss of death that is the statement of support from the board, when a manager has to publicly come out and say "Player 'x' is in my plans until the end of the season" that player is usually on the phone to his agent.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 11:31 pmYou may need to explain (or rewrite) "Sean Maguire has apparently been he is in the manager's plans this week, so he's undoubtedly leaving Preston before the window closes" as I'm not getting it....

Re: January 2023 Transfer Window
What I will say is that there are a few who can't get a look-in at relegation-threatened Hull that I could see us signing. I'm sure if we signed them some would question how likely players like that would be to keep us up if they got us up, but that's an issue for another season.
