A lot of panic fannies on here, Baka was very likeable but an absolute shite footballer, Dapo was shite in the system we play, and Bod has been injured all season. There's a reason kachunga has been getting so many minutes and it's not because he has dirt on IE. Replacing those three with Shola, Ndulu and another striker can hardly fail to improve the squad.
Trouble is we have replaced our known, and decent, players with untested commodities. What did seem like a squad that could easily rotate and score has been replaced with players that might not fit the bill.

Given we're so close to Wembley and are in a promotion push it seems like a risky strategy.

I'd like to think these players will help improve the squad but there's also the possibility that we've signed another Delfouneso.

If the reports are that we've been after Shoreretire for a while then that seems a good acquisition, especially if he's the one Evatt considers exciting. Even though on paper a United youth isn't going to whet our whistle

That James Scott sounds an interesting one. Doesn't have a tremendous goalscoring record, but is a good age, and if we can eek out improvement through improving his fitness, then there could be a good amount of upside there.

Hull local press are suggesting he's available and has been in talks with another club. I kind of feel like we would have heard a whisper if said club was us, but there are a lot of boxes being ticked with this lad.

It will be an interesting test and the judgement will come based on the seasons outcomes.

This is looking positive news. Hope so as it's unknown territory. A good sign that United trust us with their kids.

I guess if yesterday's was the "exciting" one, then if we have another (one or more to cover injuries) in the pipe, it's of the "less exciting" variety...I think I'll wait and see 1st Feb when it all settles down... :D

The issue we will have is that our recent defensive solidity has started from the front.

People are focused on the loss of attacking firepower, but all the lads who left were good at the hard work side of the game that has been vital to us. Dapo may not have played well in possession as a 10, but he did do the pressing work that keeps us in games.

So the usual difficulty of buying goals in January (the single hardest part of football recruitment) is compounded by the need to reinforce the press. Your pool of available players starts to look like a shot glass.

Evatt and Markham would usually pour over data and video of players for days making sure they'd got that side of things right. Some of that work will be being done constantly, but the chances of having to move with less than complete information are much greater now than in a summer window.

It's entirely possible that we could see lads come in who net us +4 goals over what the departures offered, but that we see the team ship +6 (to overly simplify it to make the point). People will then say "Oh, if only Evatt could have kept the defence tight, because we've been scoring goals" but actually the benefit is also the negative.

Who they identify to keep that defensive work at a high level whilst also improving us in the final third will be really interesting.

We could just overcome it by signing the hardest-working men in showbusiness - ala Charles vs Lee. Lee is brilliant as a technical presser; whereas Charles isn't, but is fuelled by some kind of atomic battery.

One of the reasons I am more comfortable with Shoretire than some is because he did his technical pressing work against us in the pizza cup. I think he can work at a much, much higher intensity and he can hit his marks. The rest may take time to come, but he shouldn't be a passenger without the ball.

The signing of a quick, energetic wide player, coupled with a striker shortage = 433??

I'm not advocating it by the way...

If Jebbison were a target again (per DSB's list of players who fit the bill and our historic interest) then he's not anymore. Sheff Utd have been placed under embargo for failing to pay their bills.

That would mean they couldn't loan players out?

Edit: It doesn't mean they can't loan their players, but I guess Ghost means they might be less keen to let people go if they're not confident of replacing them.

It would mean they have to go with what they’ve got, thus are unlikely to weaken themselves. As I say, he got a start in the Cup and scored.

They can actually still sign and loan players, they just can't pay fees.

It's interesting to hear Evatt talk about Bod's injury not changing our transfer requirements this window.

It really should, but given that he's one of our top earners maybe it can't.

I personally think its just a meaningless statement. He has said we have money and are planning to spend it.

He also said yesterday in an interview about the injury...
We have some serious work to do, and I feel we are at least one more light
I disagree with him we are 2 light. Minimum.

But the BN report that quote is in suggests he's looking to add at least 2 more players.

Publicly announcing we're desperate wouldn't really be in the club's interests when it comes to sitting down at negotiating tables.

We're supposedly after a defender.

And two strikers.

Hence Iles suggesting up to three more may come in.

The quote about it not impacting our plans was a response to a question as to whether the injury made him think about selling Dapo….

Signing another defender makes no sense to me. Surely a midfielder is needed.
