I understand the point. But, you've conveniently put Dapo as a forward to make the point. He's a LW or not a brilliant 10, in they way we've typically used him. At the moment, we're two attacking positions gone and two added.

He’s mainly played up front this season. That’s where Evatt has picked him. I’d far rather being Baka and Dapo on today than Kacha and another who is on there. Even if their form hasn’t been brilliant. It’s still better than what we have now.

On the finances, it's not just about numbers of players.

This is wild speculation but you'd think Dapo and Baka would both in the second quarter of earners (I think having both last signed contracts the summer we came up, as forwards). So I'm guessing in the top earners then overtaken over time. )

Coming in, you'd think Randy also in the second quarter. From the league above, but signed as a defender and unwanted at Hull.

I'd be surprised if we're paying much of Shoretire's wages. United don't need it and much more important to them that he gets the right move to the right club.

Nldundlu Saints clearly don't want but no doubt want to maximise what they can get for him. Last summer they let him go for loan wages Cheltenham could afford so again I don't think will be in the top quarter of wages.

So my finger in the air reckon is we're pretty level/under where we were coming into Jan.

We've also got the Dapo money and if we signed someone specifically to replace Bod (you'd think in our top quarter of earners) it's only 5 months overlap. Plus if they made the difference at Accrington or in the play-off semis they've likely more than paid for themselves (comfortably if we went up).

Easy to say when it's not your money, and I'm not expecting us to throw money around. But I do doubt we're completely on our uppers.

First thing I'd note about that: is Aimson Welsh? Not that there's anything wrong with it.

Second thing: if true (let's play), note how almost everyone at the top is in a state of flux. Traf a loanee (dunno what %age we pay); Bod injured to end of contract; John out of the picture; Sads banging on the exit door; Kachunga was on most people's "improve if possible" list before The Great Striker Shortage; Baka gone. Even Dempsey, allegedly next in line, has a legal question mark over him (although QC Prufrock assures us it's OK).

Oh and: We might have to pay the next permanent keeper a better wage. Pay peanuts, etc...

Despite all that D.S.B, football (read most sports) is a joke with subsidised advertising for everything under the sun having no relevance except grasping as the way to go. In the very unlikely event of my post ever happening, rats leaving sinking ships wouldn't come near describing it. Millionaire footballers? Half of them wouldn't get a job digging holes in the road. Okay, I'm having a bad day...but then again, ask a nurse what he/she thinks...

Of course, the cost of living has to come into the equation, but that depends on how you see living..

Oh I'm all for a more equitable redistribution of wealth. And I understand that the money involved in football can make the head spin and the heart sink. After all these years scratching a living in the armpit of the industry I thought I was immune to it, but the other day I discovered that Ruben Loftus-Cheek is on £150,000 a week and I had to go for a short angry walk.

In regards to a striker I think the club should be looking at Connor Wickham as opposed to an unknown young striker - we need experience in the team IMO.

No news to report, but an idle thought experiment.

Imagine we were linked with the following loanees: How would you feel?

• An attacking midfielder who'd never played above League Two
• A 20-year-old wingback who’d made 20 senior appearances
• A teenage centre-back who’d never played a senior game in this country
• A 25-year-old journeyman striker who'd had nine clubs (inc loans) since 2015, played for such monster clubs as Chorley and North Ferriby United, and since coming back down from Scotland (“pub league”) had scored 3 in 46 including 1 in 15 last season while getting relegated with Wimbledon.

Underwhelming, eh? Well, in order, that's Finn Azaz, Bali Mumba, Nigel Lonwijk and Sam Cosgrove, who have helped fire Plymouth to the top of the league. So maybe sometimes the professionals know what they're doing....

To pay devil's advocate (which reminds me of one of my favourite quotes, Christopher Hitchens arguing the case against at Mother Theresa's beatification hearing "I can thus claim to be the only living person to have represented the Devil pro bono"):

Football is the greatest sport in the world, which brings joy to millions. In doing so, the sport collects billions of £ from individuals and organisations who aren't forced to pay what they want for their entertainment. That money could go to the shareholders of the clubs, or it could go to the young, largely working-class diverse men (and increasingly women) who generate that wealth. Pretty much no other sport, and few other options full stop present that opportunity.

I've seen a few people guess at Adeboyejo at Burton as the 'new' name. I just think that we need a couple of older heads in the team to help the youngsters hence why I think Wickham would be a safe / better option (just IMO)

Good example of a player being so good that it doesn't matter if he doesn't fit ideally into how you want to play, you make it work around him.
