As a general rule, sure. In specific cases, not necessarily.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 12:28 pmYou'd have to think that the level we aspire to sign now is the players Preston want, not the ones they let go.

Sure. I can go with that.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 12:46 pmAs a general rule, sure. In specific cases, not necessarily.
Like I say, he's 21. Being released by Preston wouldn't put us off if we rated him from his time at St.Pats.
However, I'm not convinced he's the level we now want and he's not young enough to give us a benefit next season in terms of squad places - which I think is why Preston have made a call on him.

Re: January 2023 Transfer Window
The injuries to Nlundulu and JDB are no fault of our own, but we let Baka go and sold Dapo (for however much). The minimum for me has to be we had a player in mind to replace Dapo, better for the team and better value. I’m not sure Nlundulu is it!dave the minion wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 9:55 amTo be fair gents, we probably/might have no choice here.
Its all well and good to be unenthused, but - through no fault of our own - we are desperate and not in a strong position.
Its very easy to criticise, but i haven't seen many alternatives put forward....

Pretty sure that was Shoretire.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 1:10 pmThe injuries to Nlundulu and JDB are no fault of our own, but we let Baka go and sold Dapo (for however much). That wasn’t the role Dapo was filling though. If he was our number ten then sure. But he wasn’t. He was one of 4 strikers. In pure numbers it was. But like selling a striker and signing a midfield player…it doesn’t directly replace.The_Gun wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 1:43 pmPretty sure that was Shoretire.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 1:10 pmThe injuries to Nlundulu and JDB are no fault of our own, but we let Baka go and sold Dapo (for however much). Re: January 2023 Transfer Window
Pretty sure we've not tried to "replace" Dapo as he was signed as a winger and we no longer needed exactly his skill set.
We've tried to replace the dribbling we didn't get from Dapo and Dempsey in this system with multiple players who can do that work.
Nlundulu, Randy and Shoretire are all supposed to pick up some of that slack.
Randy and Nlundulu are probably closest to replacing the attacking threat down the left that used to be Dapo's job in the old system. Dempsey was supposed to break through the middle with the ball, but now runs channels more and Shoretire will do that central job.
All change at Crewe, as it were.

In the meantime, if today's arrival had had the same number of chances as Dion he'd be on 15 this season - so hopefully he bangs them in in short order.

Re: January 2023 Transfer Window
Feels like there’s no perfect answer. We want experience, but how much? I don’t see (m)any realistic options in the say 26-29 years sweet spot.
Would we rather have someone who’s played 100 Champo games and scored like 5 goals, or someone who’s never played there?
Eaves has just turned 31 but arguably more importantly is contracted to 2025; it’s possible that they would loan him till summer just to get rid of some of his wages, but then that’s a loan space taken.
Wickham (30 in March) scored 9 in 20 for FGR, thus doubling his tally since the Brexit referendum. He could be a short term deal - he’s just done one with FGR and is unlikely to have millions of long-term offers - but how injury-prone is he?
Danny Ward (just turned 32) is also experienced and is also out of contract in summer but is also injury wracked.

Beck's returned, clearing a loan birth.

Sensible. Shame in a way as I think he has potential. Also, dare I say it, leaves us rather short of LWBs.... especially if we're hoping to shunt Sads this month.

Re: January 2023 Transfer Window
Depends on John. I mentioned a while ago we had a defender lined up. If that comes off then we can still shuffle the deckchairs, but it could be that John is now rehabilitated and stays. I had very much expected him to go and another to come in, but January being what it is...Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 2:34 pmSensible. Shame in a way as I think he has potential. Re: January 2023 Transfer Window
You would have thought we'd at least have heard a whisper about John if anything was close. I hope he does go, because Evatt clearly doesn't trust him anymore, and he's probably eating up good money.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we send Beck back. Which means John would stay.
EDIT: Jeez that’s already announced….

And now I’m feeling bad for Kachunga. Christ alive.
He’s going to score the winner at Wembley Defreitas style isn’t he? (Though I spent the season defending Fabian who was clearly a class player).

End of the day he's only human and made a mistake by reacting to their player.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 2:54 pmAnd now I’m feeling bad for Kachunga. Christ alive.

I was never a big fan of Andy Todd until he made a mistake and leathered the crap out of Stan Collymore at the Reebok. Then he became a legend
