Coyle was the lad Trafford clattered wasn’t he? Who should have been sent off first half for two yellows?
They have had 7 red cards already this season. Not a dirty team though John!!

You're very right. All our previous play-off semis have featured a fast turnaround and at least one midweek match, including on the excitingly rare day of Thursday.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Mon Apr 24, 2023 12:32 pmI'm sure play offs used to be weekend - midweek then longer till the final....
Which to me makes sense. But whatever - its a minor point. Just get there and deal with it however it works out.
1987 (lost to Aldershot):
Sat 9 May – Last league game
Thu 14 May - First leg
Sun 17 May - Second leg
(Fri 22 & Mon 25 – two-legged final)
1990 (lost to Notts County):
Sat 5 May - Last league game
Sun 13 May - First leg
Wed 16 May – Second leg
(Sun 27 May – Final)
1991 (beat Bury, lost to Tranmere)
Sat 11 May - Last league game
Sun 19 May - First leg
Wed 22 May - Second leg
Sat 1 Jun – Final
1995 (beat Wolves and Reading)
Sun 7 May - Last league game
Sun 14 May - First leg
Wed 17 May - Second leg
Mon 29 May - Final
1999 (beat Ipswich, lost to Watford)
Sun 9 May - Last league game
Sun 16 May - First leg
Wed 19 May - Second leg
Mon 31 May - Final
2000 (lost to Ipswich)
Sun 7 May - Last league game
Sun 14 May - First leg
Wed 17 May - Second leg
(Mon 29 May - Final)
2001 (beat West Brom and Preston)
Sun 6 May - Last league game
Sun 13 May - First leg
Thu 17 May - Second leg
Mon 28 May - Final
Looking at the dates, it seems that a short turnaround between semis and final is a post-Covid thing.
Up to 2019 there was generally a gap of 10 days or longer between semis and final, but in the rush to finish the pandemic-truncated 2019/2020 season and the squeezed-in 2020/201 that followed, it came down to a week – helped presumably by the first season being behind closed doors, the second in front of minimal crowds.
Last year it went back up to 10 days or so, but clearly something has happened. Maybe Sky like to keep games for the weekend as (the majority of) football fans start to go cold-turkey for the summer. Maybe the internet makes ticket sales and organisation a lot better. Maybe both.
Times for this season's dates:
6th v 3rd – Fri 12 May, 8pm
5th v 4th – Sat 13 May, 3pm
3rd v 6th – Sat 20 May, 12.30pm
4th v 5th – Sat 20 May, 3pm

^^ Apparently, they were trying to avoid scheduling over the coronation, which has compressed it by a week...

That doesn’t make sense does it? Unless I’m missing sommat. Last game of our season is 7th - day after the coronation. As we can see that’s the usual end point for the season with the play off final scheduled for the end of May bank holiday weekend. So this is a perfectly normal in line with history date to finish the season on and the standard gap to the play off final.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Tue Apr 25, 2023 8:35 am^^ Apparently, they were trying to avoid scheduling over the coronation, which has compressed it by a week...
They’ve simply added longer between leg one and two of the semis…than is historically normal….I’m concluding it’s purely down to TV schedules…….

I'd always thought the 3 days then 10 days was a weird one from a football perspective but was there because of the logistics of having to arrange a Wembley final at short notice. Perhaps everything being online now has been a nudge this way too.

If we don't win tonight, it might not be any sort of problem for us! Anyone mentioned this is the hardest game we have today, yet?

Annoyingly a potential client in the good ol' USA has made me take a call at 8pm tonight, so I'm going to have to get the ipad set-up out of camera view and hope nothing too exciting happens.

On the one hand, I'm full of admiration for the likes of Accy, Burton and Morecambe. Small clubs with tiny fan bases and little income, yet consistently perform as well as, and compete with Sheffield Wednesday, Sunderland, Ipswich, Derby Charlton etc.
On the other hand, we're also in that list and that bloody annoys me. I'm all for plucky underdogs ruffling a few feathers but not when they're ours! Match them physically for the first 20 then make our greater ability count. 2-0 win and hopefully it goes some way to relegating the tinpot feckers.

Even if we lost tonight it would be a monumental feck up to miss out from here. A draw tonight would leave Peterborough needing something from Barnsley away at the least and that’s if we lost both our last two.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Tue Apr 25, 2023 12:00 pmIf we don't win tonight, it might not be any sort of problem for us! However, never tempt the football gods so sure - hardest game we’ve got left against relegation scrappers desperate to beat us and no doubt will as Evatt will make the wrong changes. 2-0 Accrington starts off the end of season rot as we slip into 7th on the last day. Evatt out!

Ha, I've been back a week, so the jetlag is starting to wear off. I was referencing The Gun's unfortunate double-booking.DJBlu wrote: ↑Tue Apr 25, 2023 5:31 pmAre you still out of town or is this a permanent fixture now?Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue Apr 25, 2023 3:59 pmIt's on iFollow for those with a strong constitution and a diary free of American business...
