You'd think Archie Collins and Josh Key would be on the list of people we'd spoken to.

Still haven't signed extensions... but they'd still cost.

https://www.devonlive.com/sport/footbal ... ey-8438041

"City would be entitled to compensation if they were to move on elsewhere. Key has been strongly rumoured to be joining Championship side Swansea City, captained by former Grecians youngster Matt Grimes. The chances of Collins staying though are understood to be much higher, with sources saying it about 50/50 he would sign the contract offered to him."

Explainer: Key is a RB/RWB. Collins can play 8, 10, wing or even up top, although he's 5ft9. Both are 23 and south-westerners (Torquay and Taunton), so it'd be a big wrench to leave - but that's what footballers face, and they're the right age to do it.

Both are worth the money. We may yet keep Sheehan, but Josh has shown that a player of his 'type' can be very useful for us in certain games and Collins is in that mould - though perhaps a bit more forward-thinking.

Josh Key, Remeao Hutton, Junior Tchamadeu...all options.

I quite like Sheehan of the last few months. The big problem is when the game isn’t suiting him he’s a passenger at best and at times a barrier.

When it’s say Wednesday away he ran the show.

It’s whether we can find someone who offers what he does in a more versatile way.

Interesting point, this, as IMO Sheehan hasn't shown he can play 8 or 10 for us - just that ol' quarterback role. That's a role that can also be played be Morley, but Moz can also play as more of an 8, and has more potential resale value. Sheehan isn't the automatic release he was six months ago, which is to his credit, and he could still help us to promotion; but no player is unimprovable.

Collins I didn't know till 15 minutes ago but preliminary research indicates that both these players have occupied a variety of positions for Exeter. Whether they're any good at them is a different topic. Whether we can afford what they'd cost is a further question. And I dunno the answers :D

Agree on both the improvement and sitting QB bits. The occasion that springs to mind where that didn't occur was when Shrewsbury dug a trench 20 yards out. He sat QB for most of the first half, then when we discussed at HT about them needing a map to find halfway, he actually created a lot of holes around the edge of the box and grabbed himself a good goal...

I've always liked Sheehan, so I don't need selling on him.

I think we need 3 things in addition to Dempsey, Morley and Thomason.

A powerful, ball-carrying 6/8 (we've needed one for two years).
A "linking 8" player who can also score goals.
A proper 10 who can dribble and hopefully has a turn of pace.

If we keep Sheehan then the thing we can most afford to miss out on is the linking 8 and that's where I'd want Collins as a solution. So if Sheehan stays I'd probably not sign him.

I'm fairly certain that whichever team (at our sort of level) gets Owen Moxon will have got the best 6/8 this summer.

The 10 I'm not sure about.

If, like Insane, you don't think we need a proper 10 and should get another sort of 8 in (which is a reasonable view) then Collins would still be great addition. He has lovely movement around the box, he can press, his passing is good and he can score goals.

I’m not sure whether they’ve announced their full released/retained list, but Blackburn aren’t renewing Bradley Dack’s contract.

Probably not a realistic option for us, but he was a very good player a few seasons back and is still the right side of 30.

Dack is a player we've been mentioned in regards to, but I had assumed any interest on our part would require us going up.

*edit* I should add, that talk about Dack was months ago. I've heard nothing recent.

Dack's out of shape and not mobile. He's clever and technical, but I can't see him slotting into our midfield

I doubt that we could afford his wages or others of that standard.

We certainly cant afford the wages he just left. Whether we can match his other offers this summer I don't know. He's not getting anywhere near what he was on, regardless where he ends up.

Just because it's topical, Dominic Iorfa is a very Evatty player and he's out of contract in the summer as things stand.

He's currently showing why he'd be an ideal Bolton centre back, doing the stuff Sheff Wed don't usually want him to do because they need to attack.

Thirded. Had him as an Evatt player a while. Didn’t realise he was out of contract. How old is he?

He’s 27 until he’s 28. Which is next month.

Ideal age, to be honest. Knows his way around, in his prime physically and would be likely to stick around at whatever club he joins next.

He's the sort who can play on the right or cover for Santos when he's out.

He's been on my list for a bit, but I saw aspects of his game tonight that I've not really seen since he was at Wolves and that's bumped him up a few places.

It's entirely possible he stays put, I don't know what his situation is; but if his injury niggles aren't of concern then we'd not do a lot better.

I've heard sod all linking him to us, mind, so I'm just thinking out loud.
