For me if they sign its only real an exception goalscoring midfield player or striker or LWB for me....though I think we'd need another serious goalscoring option somewhere...
Again, I agree with this.

Figuring out who will score us goals in the system as it will be next season (which won't be identical to last season) is the biggest challenge they have.

I think there needs to be more of a "the whole team is chipping in" approach generally, but I would like to see a midfielder show up who I feel can get double figures.

On LWB. Yes, I'd love one. Unless I've missed something we've not heard of any moves for John or Sadlier yet, so that will complicate matters if we do want to do more business.

I'd have a look around for potential LWBs, but it's a bitmore complicated now we're not just signing freebies...

I live in hope that both Norwich and Przemysław Płacheta are desperate enough that we could make the finances there work.

Heh. Yeah, this is the thing - it all depends on where clubs are by the end of August.

Interesting quotes from Pearson in the BN.

“There has been speculation about Kane. The deal wasn’t concluded, it is as simple as that.

“When we make changes to the squad when players come in, clearly that might affect one or two players that are already here.

“Kane had the opportunity to speak with Bolton, and the deal wasn’t concluded, and he will be here today.”

Seem like basic statements of fact, but a lot of people are in a tizzy about it.

Pearson really is a knob.

Also not a great headline - "hope fades" is what you say in the days after an avalanche, not when haggling over payment structures. To be fair to Ilesy it's not his headline.

Iles seems to think it’s in doubt. I don’t think the quotes support that but I’ve been around long enough to know that when deals get so far then a player ends up back at his old club it isn’t a great sign.

Yes. To the point where if you nailed him to a door nobody would notice anything out a place.

No impasse in talks is ever a good thing for the buying club.

Bristol aren't in a financial position where they have to give us anything and they can also afford to wait.

We'll see how patient we are prepared to be. I'd suggest we're unlikely to move on before we get back from Portugal, but without being in the room you never know.

The advantage we have is they clearly want to offload him and we already have cover in that position. That means we don't have to panic about it.

Wigan being strongly linked with Danny Mayor, who is supposedly the target of "several clubs."

Depending who you listen to the several includes Bolton, Pompey and Hibs.
He's gone to Fleetwood.

Saw that, yes.

Got his move back to the North West and Fleetwood have really improved their options there. Good for both parties - assuming they can pay him for the full two years.

A "N,S,S" I know, but potential targets may avoid us because of competition for places. A star doesn't shine quite as bright in a sky full of them. Put yourself in their place; could you displace an already established player in a Bolton side? As it is, cups apart, they only have to play us twice a season; the rest of the time they can be Roy of the Rovers at Fleetwood, Portsmouth or Burton. Could you displace Charles, Bod, Ndululu, Santos, Toal etc? Just a mental wander...

Quit so, but it's not totally just about good, though is it? More about a few things, money being just one, and deputy sherrifs usually come in posses but there's only one sherrif. '. "You're only as good as your last job" is very relevant and it's easier to be top dog when the opposition is wearing a different coloured shirt than fighting to get your name on the team sheet.

For sure TD, there's a whole host of factors.

Quite the update from Ilesy this morning, and all bad.
* Wilson transfer “abandoned”
* Flick: “no move is on the cards”
* Baccus: rival bid from Champo “might present a problem”
https://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/2 ... ne-wilson/

Which would render the summer thus far somewhat underwhelming. I’ll admit I didn’t know the last two names but Wilson is a kicker.

The Wilson deal smells of a fitness test issue that the clubs have agreed not to reveal.

Reported that everything was agreed. He’s here for a medical (which doesn’t tend to happen if the two clubs are haggling). Then suddenly all goes quiet. Then a story about the ‘add ons’ are being haggled. Then it’s off.

I will be amazed if that’s not down to something on the medical.

The other two falling through though is concerning. I’m not buying that Flick wasn't a target. Not buying that at all.

To lose your top three targets - well let’s say two assuming Wilson is a fitness thing - is not great.

I have found it surprising that so many of our targets are being bandied about in the press. Previous Evatt windows have been low on speculation, high on results. I wonder if this is a choice from the regime, or whether we've got a leak in the camp...

Not too worried. Long way to go yet.

More high profile signings will get reported I suspect. We can’t entirely control that as other clubs will be pushing leaks out. Easier when you are signing frees to keep it quiet.
