Evatt's thing about shooting and crossing more is qualified by saying it can only happen if we have the right field positions.
Those are structural issues in positional play that require a lot of work. If you just have a crack or stick it into the box and the rest defence is in the wrong position you will get countered more often than you create a goal.

It also requires players with the necessary ability, mentality & skill set who can carry out the instructions.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 12:15 pmEvatt's thing about shooting and crossing more is qualified by saying it can only happen if we have the right field positions.

I don't think that we couldn't have coped with say Accrington or Cambridge games being more transitional....I accept that you wouldn't want to set up against Wednesday away like that...but I mean even Barnsley I'd have fancied us to deal with them mainly in transition more than with how they game actually went.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 12:15 pmEvatt's thing about shooting and crossing more is qualified by saying it can only happen if we have the right field positions.

But the key is a Baccus type in midfield who really is mobile enough and physical enough to deal with that sort of approach. To cut off the transition opportunities. Critical we add one.
The good thing is Evatt has realised that you can't go up playing sideways in the final third. We definitely need more shackles off, more in box, but we do need to retain some control in games. But if we get it right then its about balance. Commit when we can and be more structured when its required to see a game out or control key periods. But we do need that ability to just make teams defend their box for periods because that is how most goals are scored.

This is what I think I read, too. I don't think we're going to start seeing Dion on for 10 with his head, from "zone 1" crosses...GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 12:15 pmEvatt's thing about shooting and crossing more is qualified by saying it can only happen if we have the right field positions.

Burnley are apparently going to sign Trafford for £19m!

Traf’s price is rising with every England U21 Euro performance…

Burnley have only just signed Vigeraux (sp?) from Orient. I can't see why they'd go for Traf too

I very much doubt they've signed a keeper from L2 to be number 1 in the prem.

Cos Trafford is absolutely outstanding. If I was a premiership manager in the bottom half and had the cash available I’d sign him every single time. It’s rare keepers are that good at his age. He’s still got at least 5 years development as a keeper and already is probably better in many ways than many playing in the top flight.Harry Genshaw wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 10:03 pmBurnley have only just signed Vigeraux (sp?) from Orient. His shot stopping is right up there. Kicking not yet but that can be improved.

Yep. All true. I don't see the logic of signing Vigeraux as well though. They've got 1 or 2 decent keepers already haven't they?BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 10:16 pmCos Trafford is absolutely outstanding. They've probably enquired about Trafford on loan and then been made aware of his price tag and availability. Muric seems decent enough but you'd suspect that Burnley are not expecting him to make the grade in the Prem so they're looking at other options.Harry Genshaw wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 10:22 pmYep. Vigoroux was probably the shout if they were sticking with Muric, but if they sign Trafford for that amount you'd suspect Trafford would be coming in as first choice with Vigoroux as backup with Muric getting sold.
Either way, picking up England's potential number #1 they'll pick him up on the cheap at £19m at his age.
Take a look at Englands U21 tournament record pre Trafford. Usually nowhere near the latter stages and now they're semi finalists with Trafford doing top notch performances. Going places that lad.

Not sure it's weird.
We tried to sign Tucker last summer and since then we've not added a permanent centre half, despite losing Aimson.
I think last January you said it'd be a disaster if we didn't get a top centre back in. We had injuries then, but surely you expected that signing to be part of the squad longer than 6 months.

I mean we signed Toal since didn’t we. The reason it’s a bit weird is that we have Toal and Jones and Iredale and Johnston. Maybe this guy is seen as better in the middle as it seems that’s where he has played his best stuff for PV though has played right along the back three.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Tue Jul 04, 2023 5:44 amNot sure it's weird.

Decent age and has played some football so not like it looks a poor one. Just wouldn’t have thought it was a priority area. Compared to midfield and wing back where we absolutely do need to strengthen with real genuine quality.
Re: Snog, Marry, Avoid: Summer 2023 Transfer Window
I had a look at the Vale forum and one chap is claiming Wrexham are in for George Johnston. Presumably absolute bollocks.
