Re: Snog, Marry, Avoid: Summer 2023 Transfer Window
I don’t think Bradley was a poor fit it’s simply that we needed another one of him on the left. His dodgy crossing wouldn’t have been as obvious if we’d had another outlet on the other side and it would have balanced us out more.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 1:03 amThe trouble with all that is that you talk about Bradley as having been a poor fit for us, when he was fairly obviously superb all season.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Jul 04, 2023 4:51 pmThis is a mistake in my view. Wing backs as we’ve seen basically are the difference between the system looking very fluid and looking like we can’t score against any reasonably well organised side.
The ability to get beyond and behind defences is critical in a wing back and whilst Cogley sounds fine it’s not the same potential attacking quality as Wilson and for me we will live and die by that in our wing backs. Williams came in January but wasn’t much use as not fully fit. Relying on January for positions that imho make or break us in the system we have chosen is bad. Bad.
Wing back is so specialist it’s not a place you can just mumble on through significant periods without having someone who is exceptional in the role, especially going forward. I think back to all those home games where because we couldn’t get in behind enough we went sideways. That needs fixing if we want to go up and for me we need more in those areas than we have. More significant and obvious quality.
If the rest of the team had worked better then the stuff Bradley wasn't as good at would have mattered a lot less.
As it was I think through little fault of his own his lack of end product given he was pretty much our only outlet did hurt us. But that’s more the system I have an issue with.

So now it’s clear Maja was utter tripe I wonder who the next genuine signing will be? Forrester came out of nowhere. Need that midfield and wing back roles strengthening ideally soon so they have time to bed in.

Very excited about the next instalment of gossip regarding Maja.
I wonder what he ordered at Nandos. Thigh or breast man, do you think?

I guess it is hard for foreign journos when both Bolton and Birmingham begin with a B!GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 9:59 amNow now. Waste of money. Look how his loan at Accy turned out.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 10:13 amThat can only mean were about to sign James Trafford for £19m.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 10:06 amI guess it is hard for foreign journos when both Bolton and Birmingham begin with a B!

Exactly. Not a proven 'keeper, that's all I'm saying.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 10:46 amWaste of money. Look how his loan at Accy turned out.
18 months at Bolton, but what's his record like before that?
We need to be signing a 20-year-old with 8-10 seasons of consistency behind them, otherwise how can you know they're any good?

The final pieces of our transfer puzzle that I am looking forward to would be the replacements for Lee and Kachunga. Two strong runners from midfield are needed, one who is more attacking, and one who is physically strong/dominant. It looks to me that a couple may also leave us in this window. My bet would be on Sadler and Johnston for a fee now that the versatile Forrester is in.

It took me far too long before I realised you weren't talking about Lee Chung-Yong. I need a nap.irie Cee Bee wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 3:48 pmThe final pieces of our transfer puzzle that I am looking forward to would be the replacements for Lee and Kachunga. Or David! (Skin him David lad)
I think Dempsey is a good runner and would excel in that role, however, it's dependant on having some creativity and steel around him. He's expected to do too much in there himself. Whilst Morley can play the quarter back role pretty well most of the time, he doesn't play well against a physical pressing team and we need more nous in there

I can only imagine that this Trafford outcome is going to do us the world of good when it comes to getting loans in for this season. I'd guess that the '10' role might be one where we're more likely to find what we need in the academy of one of the big sides than on a free, or for buttons, on a permanent.

Was just thinking I've got a weird feeling we'll announce a signing today, and then we announce nine
Nine kids, like, but y'know

Good to see us picking up cast-offs from Everton. Plenty of talent falls through the Cat 1 system and hopefully we can get a player or two out of it.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Fri Jul 07, 2023 12:10 pmWas just thinking I've got a weird feeling we'll announce a signing today, and then we announce nine

Best of luck to the new lads. Hopefully the club will sort out the 'Teams' section on the website before the start of the season, because it's not up to scratch at the moment.
It'd be nice to at least get a Georgie J contract extension announced this afternoon if nothing else. I have to say that I'm not feeling overly positive about the squad with our first pre-season game coming up tomorrow.

I don't think you are alone Gun, I think the majority of supporters are quite underwhelmed at the moment with the summer recruitment - we can only hope that there is a lot of work going on behind the scenes to bring in a couple of quality additions to improve us enough to challenge for the top 2. Currently the squad is no different to last season, possibly even slightly weaker ?The_Gun wrote: ↑Fri Jul 07, 2023 1:30 pmBest of luck to the new lads.
