Sky Sports reporter I think.
Age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill!

And the key to a result is a good :kettle:

MJ Williams possibly going to MK Dons.
Seems like it’s pretty much done and dusted with Pete O’Rourke tweeting it
The BN comments section won't be happy about this one bit. I can hear bedsheets ripping and pitchforks being sharpened as I type.

It's days like this where bullshit transfer speculation kicks in.

It's interesting that this has come out on the same day Leahy handed in his transfer request and apparently got the greenlight to move, given the data similarities between Baccus and Leahy.

He’s the only player we have with any presence in midfield. I’d be pretty unhappy if we let him go without a similar type to come in - hopefully a more mobile type. In fact I think it would be pretty foolish to do so. If we have ti wait for others to have replacements ready then I don’t see why we would be so accommodating unless we had ours ready to go.
I disagree, MJ leaving doesn't weaken us at all IMO - and this will be a sign that things are moving, we will bring in a better quality replacement. This move makes sense for all parties.
I did say that I’d only be disappointed if we didn’t have a replacement upgrade ready to come in.

30 year old - converted left back? Surely not?

I'm not really fussed about the converted left back bit, as he's played very well as a mid for two years now. I'm not suggesting him; but he has a lot of what we'll be looking for.

The left foot is a big advantage. He's one of the top performers in the division in terms of turnover and tackling. His work in the final third is much better than most combative midfield types and he runs for miles without losing intensity. The fact he can play down the left is also an advantage, for various reasons. If we had him in the squad currently he'd probably be a starter.

The speculation is Wrexham, but it's the sort of thing an enterprising website might pick up on in terms of our needs matching his situation.

He’s scored a few for them. Does he take pens? Or are they proper goals?

This season mostly pens. Previous season mostly proper goals.

Importantly for a midfielder, he almost exactly tracks his non-pen XG, with a tendency to slightly overperform.. Which usually means that whilst he's not a great finisher, he will score when given chances.

Just with the eye, he strikes the ball well.

The article doesn’t say ‘both players’ far as I can see.
No, it doesn't and I did wonder why I'd not noticed it when I listened. I was going off DSB's quote.

Pleased to be corrected.
Or Evatt did say "both" originally, including when DSB pasted the article, and he's since been alerted to it and they've changed the official version now as they didn't want people knowing there were only 2 planned....

I don’t think it very likely that Evatt has the pull to ask media outlets to alter a quote he’s given once it’s been published.

Suspect it was just a mistake.

Will miss MJ but he’s a good enough player to be starter and a main figure somewhere either in defence or midfield - good luck to the lad!

Yeah, they have the same quoted thing on Wanderers Ways...

On the “both” quote - relieved to hear DtM’s explanation as I’ve no idea why it would change otherwise. I have seen some fairly obvious quoting errors in the BN recently - no great criticism from me, both Marc and the young lad turn round a lot of copy - so it’d be no surprise if that was a misquote. And if a misquote changes the meaning, a a media outlet can very feasibly and reasonably be asked to change it.

MJ - interesting. Has been a good servant and I’m glad he got that little cameo role at the end of last season, but it has been felt for a while that his skillset isn’t as complete as we’d like; and while you can’t always get the “ins” before the “outs”, it makes me think we’re getting confident of hiring a new face soon.

Certainly the fact that we might consider letting him go despite injuries to Johnston and Toal suggests he’s not high up our priority list. Which also, again, makes his late-season cameo a credit to both him and our coaching.

One thing worthy of note is that we've just lost a centre back and MJ is apparently heading to a club that have a centre back on their books we have previously coveted and whose face increasingly doesn't seem to fit there.

I'm not saying the two are related, but I've seen stranger things than that kind of swap deal happen.

Tucker's agent has been looking for a route out for him (a return to Gills was mooted a month back) and were Johnston out for the season I could see it, even if it makes other things a bit tricky.

Iles is also saying “undisclosed fee” for MJ, which would mean that contract triggering made us money…

Tucker has the potential to be a good shout. Would definitely fill out our numbers in the back line, experienced, allows the younger defenders more time to settle and adds competition. I wouldn't be averse to us signing him. But it's just idle musings before anyone says owt.

Likely to be small change, but everything helps. If we get up above 200k including the saved wages over the year then that's a fair whack.

It's Forrester's transfer fee paid for, for a start.

Pure speculation on my part too, rather than any kind of insight or actual analysis work.

He's not the type you'd pick out as a direct replacement for Johnston, I just know how much we wanted him in the building 12 months ago. Very different situation now, though.

Derby have signed Kane Wilson, by the way. That's a shame.
