Kane Wilson joins Derby, and now I’m in the uncomfortable position of having to hate a player I wanted us to sign. Mind, I got used to it with Barkhuizen.

Yup. Mildly gutted about that one. Hard to imagine we'll get the same level of player down that side and Derby have hoovered up arguable the two best right-siders in the market at this level. There are obviously players who can match and exceed that level, but attracting them to League One is a tough gig.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Mon Jul 10, 2023 10:56 pmKane Wilson joins Derby, and now I’m in the uncomfortable position of having to hate a player I wanted us to sign. I'd like to know why the deal fell apart. They will get a huge amount of stick over the next few days. Hopefully it's not deserved.

There's a lot of goodbyes going on regarding MJ. Not seen anything official. Would seem legit, but I would've thought as a fanbase we wouldn't be this quick to write his goodbyes.

Pete O’Rourke is a strong source and the tone of Ilesy’s reporting suggests he’s hearing no denial.
Deals can collapse - we’ve seen that recently - but this one rings true.

End of the day you’d have to be worried if we can’t sign someone as good or better. Primarily because it was a key position and he was clearly a major target and we pulled out. So it’s a test of judgement.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Mon Jul 10, 2023 11:03 pmYup. Mildly gutted about that one. No fee was what I read, but with some chunky sell on clauses...I think that'll resonate with popular acclaim amongst the Wanderers fan base...GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Mon Jul 10, 2023 11:03 pmYup. Re: Snog, Marry, Avoid: Summer 2023 Transfer Window
Bristol saying undisclosed fee, Derby saying undisclosed agreement. Derby also soon to sell Jason Knight to Bristol.
Bolton will get some shit over this, so it’ll be interesting to see what’s said. Journos will be asking Evatt how he feels to see a target join a rival. This time last year he was being derided for saying Bradley was better than Fossey…

I believe the suggestion is that fees were waved as part of the agreement taking Knight the other way, but for accounting purposes they are two separate deals.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Mon Jul 10, 2023 11:17 pmNo fee was what I read, but with some chunky sell on clauses...I think that'll resonate with popular acclaim amongst the Wanderers fan base...
No idea if that's correct, though.

Derby's fans will have a field day, certainly. A load of our lot gave it the big I am when we were close to signing him, so it'll be deserved.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Mon Jul 10, 2023 11:20 pmBristol saying undisclosed fee, Derby saying undisclosed agreement. And now Regan Poole joins Portsmouth. Our rivals strengthening massively - we need some quality players in soon to keep up.

Re: Snog, Marry, Avoid: Summer 2023 Transfer Window
Last summer I looked in turn at each of our promotion rivals’ summer deals - it’s where I stopped worrying about MK and Wycombe. I’ll try to do a granular look again in a couple of weeks - still four weeks to season kick-off - but from what I’ve noticed, Pompey have built strongly under a manager who started well for them. Add in Derby throwing the cheques around again and I know where you’re coming from, Brommers.brommers95 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 11, 2023 12:27 amAnd now Regan Poole joins Portsmouth. I’m hoping MJ->MK implies a signing is near, rather than just an opportunistic sale. (He’s been good but would probably be in the top three or five most expendable players in a squad looking to go up.)

Charlton potentially too. May. Dabo linked.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue Jul 11, 2023 8:57 amLast summer I looked in turn at each of our promotion rivals’ summer deals - it’s where I stopped worrying about MK and Wycombe. The warning signs have been jangling a while for us. Deals breaking down in strange ways. Dabo our top target but we didn't like the wages. Wilson passed a medical (I'm told reliably) was about to have photos and scarf pics - suddenly off. Baccus similar.
I don't know what is going on but I'd say this is more than just 'the usual summer hiccups'.
I think its one thing Wilson being deemed too expensive another when he signs for an obvious rival for promotion.
I feels not that different to last summer. And January didn't compensate either. I'm not convinced we have got much stronger since we started last season and arguably are weaker with Dapo, Bradley and Trafford gone.

You'd imagine we'd need a complete understanding of Johnston's injury before we'd know how to respond in the market.
The moves you'd make to cover 3 months, 6 months or the whole season out would probably be different from one another.

Yes. Though I think season long is quite likely. But the midfield doesn't and shouldn't wait for that.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Tue Jul 11, 2023 10:04 amYou'd imagine we'd need a complete understanding of Johnston's injury before we'd know how to respond in the market.
