That's what he needs from a coach and it'll be a mark of Evatt and Markham's abilities if they get that right. Can they find him a mainstay role in which he thrives?BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sat Jul 22, 2023 7:06 amI don’t like doing this as he’s not signed but looking at stats it’s also pretty hard to tell which position is his best.

Absolutely 100%, just posting information others are saying. Personally I'd rather hear some rumours of potential signings as opposed to nothing at all. To be honest even if we do sign CMG it doesn't particularly excite me as its another player with very limited championship experience.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Sat Jul 22, 2023 9:12 amI think it's interesting to pick up stuff on the rumour mill, but I still don't count anyone as signed until I see PSG..

Fair, Bertie. That's what the transfer rumour thread is all about, mate. I'd probably have him as decent, but would be interested to work out where he will fit into our notional starting XI, rather than where he could play. Both he and the West Brom lad have had about 15 positions each mentioned. But I'd like them to be really good at one of them...Bertie Wooster wrote: ↑Sat Jul 22, 2023 9:17 amAbsolutely 100%, just posting information others are saying. As an aside Bertie, we could be surprised, but I'm not currently envisaging anyone with 150 Champo games under their belt, crossing the whitewash. Dack's on about 84, but only about 20 starts in the last three years..

Given he does well in a few positions I see it as a positive. Adds flexibility. We don’t need to necessarily define him.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Sat Jul 22, 2023 9:16 amThat's what he needs from a coach and it'll be a mark of Evatt and Markham's abilities if they get that right. Dack's on 156 Championship appearances, isn't he? With 167 total appearances for Blackburn.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Sat Jul 22, 2023 9:42 amAs an aside Bertie, we could be surprised, but I'm not currently envisaging anyone with 150 Champo games under their belt, crossing the whitewash. Or have I given a load of League One appearances as Champ ones?
*edit* I have indeed given him a load of League One appearances as Championship games. He's apparently on 116 Championship appearances and 167 total, with 57 goals.

Sorry. Starts...rather than appearances. Aye.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Sat Jul 22, 2023 9:45 amDack's on 156 Championship appearances, isn't he? Yeah one season was L1? The point I'm making is of his 80ish starts over 5 years. 40 of them were 5 years back, from memory 20 were 4 years ago, leaving 20 in three years

Jack Hunt's had 268 second-tier starts but the reaction to his name was more underwhelmage...

Absolutely. He's had a woeful time since he did his knee.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Sat Jul 22, 2023 9:55 amYeah one season was L1? The point I'm making is of his 80ish starts over 5 years. 40 of them were 5 years back, from memory 20 were 4 years ago, leaving 20 in three years
If we could get 25-30 games a season out of him he'd be well worth having, but I think he's a stretch.

Indeed, much as I admired Lee's ability, I wouldn't say he was the beating heart of the team. I think maybe some folks are maybe hoping for at least one who's more akin to a Bannan type...GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Sat Jul 22, 2023 10:07 amAbsolutely. Evatt looks to be building the kind of set-up he talked about a couple of years ago as "ideal."Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Sat Jul 22, 2023 10:05 amJack Hunt's had 268 second-tier starts but the reaction to his name was more underwhelmage...
We're working towards an experienced player in every positions, plus a younger player competing with them. A minimal number of veterans for experience and then a B Team set up feeding new youngsters in.
It'll be interesting to see if that continues.

If we bring in a Dack or CMG type creative number 10, then midfield wise I'm really hoping for an experienced physical, energetic ball winning type (a better MJ Williams), I don't think we can accommodate a Bannan playmaker type in our system, although I certainly wouldn't say no !Worthy4England wrote: ↑Sat Jul 22, 2023 10:13 am

That level of experience, quality and continual availability is going to be tough to find on a League One budget.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Sat Jul 22, 2023 10:13 amIndeed, much as I admired Lee's ability, I wouldn't say he was the beating heart of the team. Probably worth remembering Bannan earns 3x as much as our top earners.

Agree mate, we still need one there..Bertie Wooster wrote: ↑Sat Jul 22, 2023 10:28 amIf we bring in a Dack or CMG type creative number 10, then midfield wise I'm really hoping for an experienced physical, energetic ball winning type (a better MJ Williams), I don't think we can accommodate a Bannan playmaker type in our system, although I certainly wouldn't say no !Worthy4England wrote: ↑Sat Jul 22, 2023 10:13 am

So is Mendes Gomes another in the line of ‘done announced today’ then not announced and disappears?
Certainly something doesn’t feel too right.
