I just don’t really like the kids nonsense on social media or see it as a good reason to consider a football club significant rivals.
It’s not my thing at all.
Man Utd is deep baked in.
I also know only one Wigan fan and they aren’t regulars. I know a lot of Blackburn, Preston and Burnley fans however. As well of course as the usual premiership suspects.
I do get all that but, respectfully, your just old.

It doesn't matter a great deal to me, but it seems pretty evident there's genuine needle between the two sets of supporters, paritcularly but not exclusively among the younger end, and that today's fixture means something to them. It's fine if you don't feel it, but to dismiss outright the feelings of others because it doesn't meet your own personal criteria of what constitutes a rivalry seems a touch unneccessary.

Anyway, I'd like us to win today - aside from the obvious reasons - simply because it'd be another sign the wheel is finally beginning to turn for us. We have no innate right to beat any club, of course, but in the natural order of things, we could probably expect to beat the likes of Accrington Stanley, Fleetwood Town, Rochdale, Wigan Athletic, etc. more often than not, and for longer than I'd have liked we had to endure the reality of them fairly comfortably (occasionally very comfortably) turning us over. Three points today would provide an added satisfaction as further indication the horror show that was the last decade is now put behind us; a writing of a wrong if you will.
As it is, I think the scrawpy buggers will leave with a point, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if they beat us either.
But I'd rather be happy than right.

Regardless of whether you consider them a rival or not, I think we can all agree that it’s time we put these tw@ts in their place.

On the flip side you could argue the Wigan rivalry is more relevant than Tranmere or Wolves or United which were generations ago and you're just stuck in the past
Anyway I think we'll win today.

You'd have paraphrased my intention incorrectly. More "your derby's are yours, mine are mine"nicholaldo wrote: ↑Sat Aug 19, 2023 10:17 am
Perhaps I should've put the whole sentence in quotation marks to make it clearer I was paraphrasing.![]()

There's only one Derby that matters. As long as they don't get promoted and we do then I'll be happy

A team many suspected. Sheehan, Morley and N'lundulu in for Thomo, Maghoma and Dion...Hopefully Dan has come on like Vic in closed season, now he's a grown up. Dadbod, on the bench...COYWM

Lovely to see Bodvarsson back in the picture. Not that his midweek 4-0 defeat really made it look good.
Teamsheet as expected, pretty much think every knew N'lundulu was favourite for covering Charles' role. Lets hope the hard work he's been putting in alongside Vic pays dividends. Certainly been working for Charles, who I suspect is going to be a big miss today.
Amos and Magennis on the Wigan bench. Amos did himself credit whilst he was here, Magennis just seemed to half arse it, hopefully he'll do the same today.
I'm not getting the impression Wigan have signed people for a promotion push. They probably have a decent squad to give the league a good go however. They've lost quite a few players like their captain Tendayi Darikwa, Max Power, McClean, etc and brought in a load of loans and free transfers.

I'd say they're even on set pieces.
That is appalling defending.

FFS. That'd been coming. Sloppy free kicks given away and set pieces.
Easy clear from our defenders there and everyone is flat footed. Come on Bolton.

Criminal defending on that corner

Surprised Adeboyejo didnt score that chance. Decent link up with N'lundulu, Jones and then Vic. Tough chance, but I would've expected him to do better.
Rico's body language is looking somewhat frustrated. Hopefully not a heads gone situation for him today.

Randell Williams, get your fecking foot through them. Pulling out of a 50/50 in this game isn't acceptable.

We're looking somewhat panicky. Think you're right in that we've not got out of second gear. I was getting the impression that players were waiting for someone to make something happen, possibly that's not fair, but its getting to one or two of our players who are just panicking and doing something they wouldn't normally do.
FFS. 2-0. Decent first save from Baxter.
Jones, Santos and Iredale don't look switched on here.
Think Jones has managed to find their players more than he has ours. I like Jones, but todays not a good showing so far.

Wigan proper bullying us off the pitch.
