Re: Snog, Marry, Avoid: Summer 2023 Transfer Window
Evatt is unlikely to bin off a player he's said can go to the "top" in Morley and a player he just signed in the summer.
A wing back and a mobile player who can play midfield and centre back are still what we need.
The "ideal world" scenario would be that mobile, rapid striking option we've needed for ages; but that'll have to wait. We have numbers up there and they're all decent players.
We'll face a good, mobile, aggressive mid at Burton in Oshilaja; but he signed a new deal. Sarpong at Fleetwood would be a great pick-up, but maybe too expensive. Will be interested to see what we do, if anything.

Suggesting we need to get rid of Morley off the back of one performance is, quite frankly, laughable. Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, but that’s utter bollocks.
We definitely need a RWB to cover for JDC, and if/when John leaves then we need another option at LWB.
I think Maghoma and CMG both look good, and I think will prove to be huge improvements on what we had last year.
Our first choice back three (Toal, Santos and Johnston) I’d say it does much better yesterday than what we started with. I think Toal coming back in for Jones is on it’s own a big upgrade for games like that, so I wouldn’t be prioritising signings in that area.

Evatt thinks that Nlundulu is the next Ivan Toney even though his second touch is always a sliding tackle and he looks like he doesn’t know where he is….GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Sun Aug 20, 2023 8:38 pmEvatt is unlikely to bin off a player he's said can go to the "top" in Morley and a player he just signed in the summer.

So yeah I think we should seriously temper any suggestions Evatt has on how good players might be. Morley will never, I mean ever play at the top level and it’s completely deluded to think otherwise.

You've only just had one player you branded as "useless" score a hattrick in 37 minutes.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sun Aug 20, 2023 9:35 pmEvatt thinks that Nlundulu is the next Ivan Toney even though his second touch is always a sliding tackle and he looks like he doesn’t know where he is….

At the age of 26 and 5 months Ivan Toney had scored 119 league goals and just got 12 premiership goals in his first season there.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Sun Aug 20, 2023 9:54 pmYou've only just had one player you branded as "useless" score a hattrick in 37 minutes.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sun Aug 20, 2023 9:35 pmEvatt thinks that Nlundulu is the next Ivan Toney even though his second touch is always a sliding tackle and he looks like he doesn’t know where he is….

By the time next Ivan Toney is 26 and 5 months I will bet you any money, any money you want that he won’t be on even 50 league goals. Don’t even need to be in the premiership.
Or we could do it another way let’s give Dan a massive extra set of years. He only needs to hit Ivan Toneys record now as it stands which is 32 prem goals and 145 in total by the time he’s 30. That’s loads of extra time for next Ivan Toney.
Re: Snog, Marry, Avoid: Summer 2023 Transfer Window
Yeah that Toney comparison was nonsense. I don’t for one second think that Evatt actually believes Dan is anything like that level - he was probably just trying to boost the lad’s ego.
Anyway, the guy’s in the building now, and he’s not getting shipped out because some blokes on a forum think he’s a shit signing. I agree he’s not good enough to be starting for us, but he’s got some decent attributes, and I’d hope can be an impact sub.

The main problem Ndlundulu has, is that he has somebody else's legs attached to his body

The thing I don't get is that Evatt is not an 'attributes' man. Big Sam I could see absolutely loving Nlundulu as a signing and working with him to improve him because IF you can teach him to play football (its a big IF) or simplify his game right down to something dead basic like Sam did with Ricketts or SKD (more realistic)....then maybe you will end up with a player there.The_Gun wrote: ↑Mon Aug 21, 2023 10:54 amYeah that Toney comparison was nonsense. But Evatt and the way he works goes the other way. We'll have midget Sheehan in midfield cos he can play even though it clearly leaves us vulnerable. We'll have Charles because he is a great presser and goalscorer even though he's not a natural point man (at the time we played a one up front more often) etc...
This is my problem. Nlundulu has a woeful touch. He doesn't understand what he's meant to be doing on the pitch - he has no natural press (he's not lazy he just doesn't know when to press, when not to and ends up reacting too slowly) and when he gets the ball his touch takes him backwards and it almost always ends up with the play going backwards or it breaking down.
In terms of development I'd say he's at the same stage an 18/19 year old would be but he's 24 and a half.
I honestly got signing Victor as he was doing well at Burton and scoring goals and whilst - I'm not convinced yet entirely either but he looks better this season than last and seemingly is playing the target man role he so obviously suits and getting better supply. The thing with Vic is he was in double figures and in demand so we would have to spend money. It didn't work last season but hopefully the signs are he might fit in better now.
Nlundulu on a free I could maybe see. A player that maybe has a small chance of it clicking into place at some point and its worth a risk potentially.
I just do not and never will think it was a good use of £300K (a LOT) of money for us especially as we signed Bod too. We now have Vic, Bod, Nlundulu and Jerome who all essentially need to play with Charles...I don't see many other obvious pairings. We could absolutely do with a Charles like player to complement what we have up top and balance it. Cos Vic and Dan feels like a problem not merely on Saturday but we looked pretty poor against Barrow too and whilst its not just the front two you can see it simply doesn't work as a pairing in an Evatt side.

Fairly sure there was a caveat or at least an implication that there might be more if there are also outgoings. I very strongly doubt we're only going to hire one more player before September.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Sun Aug 20, 2023 7:40 pmI'm not envisaging 4 first team starters heading through the doors. (R)WB cover, strong midfielder, possible loanee forward. I can't see us buying a 6th striker – 7th if you include CMG, which Evatt frequently does – but I can picture us being offered someone. There's goals in this footballing team, even if there are issues further back.

I doubt we get a striker tbh - though I've heard there is increasing expectation of a bid for Charles in the next week......Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Mon Aug 21, 2023 11:45 amFairly sure there was a caveat or at least an implication that there might be more if there are also outgoings. I'd almost be surprised if there isn't a bid for Charles.
Whether it's anywhere near his pricetag is a different question.

Aye and if it's not, will him missing out on a juicy championship contract affect his form and attitude for the next few months.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Mon Aug 21, 2023 12:32 pmI'd almost be surprised if there isn't a bid for Charles.

The Wigan game has potentially done considerable damage in that should a big bid come in for Charles and he is sold late in the window the negativity will be absolutely off the charts and the pressure to buy a ready made replacement huge.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Mon Aug 21, 2023 12:32 pmI'd almost be surprised if there isn't a bid for Charles.

I think its absolutely clear that if the club sell Charles we'd need to spend a very large amount on a replacement or accept another failed season. That is probably not up for much debate. And had we not succumbed on Saturday the club might have a bit more cover to operate in. But now....its going to be very very negative should they feel forced to sell. And Evatt and Markham better have some genuinely proven quality targets lined up.

Wouldn't be his first paddy – ask Accy. But I do get the impression he likes it here and feels valued.Harry Genshaw wrote: ↑Mon Aug 21, 2023 1:58 pmAye and if it's not, will him missing out on a juicy championship contract affect his form and attitude for the next few months.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Mon Aug 21, 2023 12:32 pmI'd almost be surprised if there isn't a bid for Charles.

My main worry if we sell Charles would not be whether it plays well on social media. It will be whether we play well without him. And for all the need to be a trading club, I suspect Evatt and Markham know that some cogs are harder to replace than others.

I think we'll unlikely sell this month and I think Dion will accept that with a promise that we'd look at things again in January if we're off the pace

Interesting idea given that unless contracts are winding down, clubs buying in January generally offer more (to club and player)boltonboris wrote: ↑Mon Aug 21, 2023 2:32 pmI think we'll unlikely sell this month and I think Dion will accept that with a promise that we'd look at things again in January if we're off the pace

Exactly. If Stoke, or Watford are top 8-10 and the goals for column is what's keeping them out of the 6, then we could be in for a decent pay day
