Proud of the first half showing, but as Mar said, not really threatening. Certainly not outclassed.

Another reason I'm fairly relaxed watching it is that my PA-via-BBC updates are (or at least were in that half) a whole minute in front of the footage, so it's not like I'm thinking every half-chance is a goal – I'm just watching the plays develop without the emotional jeopardy of the unknown outcome.Mar wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 2:40 pmI meant that moment, not necessarily the game as a whole.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 2:37 pmIt’s not the greatest game but as a neutral journalist I’d call it intriguing.
As a Bolton fan I’m enjoying it. We don’t look out of place. Nervy but it doesn’t REALLY matter.

Played really well. Centre of midfield is excellent: they are taking it off Luton toes very regularly. Lots breaking down with Charles as per, but he’s getting about.
Missing Jones to take the ball in the centre and release down the wing, but Forrester is winning lots in the air, so it’s a trade that has some defensive benefits.
Cogley looks terrified. I suppose it’s natural, but he just needs a shake from the captain.
Well done, Whites. Keep it going.

Didn't feel like they had 63% possession...

We've been the better side for most of that. We are executing out gameplan better than they are theirs.
Into 'em, Whites.
Into 'em, Whites.

This must be how opposing managers feel.

We've played them like the better teams play us. Get the ball into a target man or into channels and get at them. Keep the ball when you can't do that. Press them into wide areas and deal with crosses when you're out of possession.
Hint of a Championship "Plan B", perhaps...

I was slightly surprised by that but as Ghost notes (heh, ghost notes #musojokes) it was more 'possession' than 'territory'. They weren't overwhelming us. And we're rarely knockign it around "for the sake of it".

Wash your mouth out. We only play one way.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 2:59 pmWe've played them like the better teams play us. We've given a very creditable account of ourselves after an understandably nervous first ten minutes or so.
We could just do with a bit more up top.
An interesting tactical direction - or at least I'm assuming that's what it is - is that Santos has looked to drill in his long passes rather than giving them air. Presumably we think it gives us greater control against physically stronger and quicker opposition, and it seems to have been quite effective thus far.

Kills half the enjoyment for me when that happens. Watching whilst knowing the result is a foregone conclusion gets rid of a load of what ifs.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 2:53 pmAnother reason I'm fairly relaxed watching it is that my PA-via-BBC updates are (or at least were in that half) a whole minute in front of the footage, so it's not like I'm thinking every half-chance is a goal – I'm just watching the plays develop without the emotional jeopardy of the unknown outcome.Mar wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 2:40 pmI meant that moment, not necessarily the game as a whole.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 2:37 pmIt’s not the greatest game but as a neutral journalist I’d call it intriguing.

Just tuned in (ta) first impression is they all look absolute units compared to us! A team of ricos!

They're bound to look that way when they've got a point to make at the start of this second half.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 3:09 pmJust tuned in (ta) first impression is they all look absolute units compared to us! A team of ricos!
We've got to kill their momentum and impose our own game. We seem to be doing that.

Agreed and I usually avoid scores to watch MOTD “Likely Lads” style. But with our games I want to know ASAPMar wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 3:08 pmKills half the enjoyment for me when that happens. Luton certainly upping their game this half. Quality looks like it may show through. Feel like we're clinging on here.

Nice move, but awful left footed effort from Vic.

Just occasionally employing the high press and it works. Latest brought Vic’s chance. Wonder if we will turn that up soon.
