Like I say how much is a player worth vs how much is he worth to us is not the same thing.The_Gun wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2024 3:02 pmUnless Collins is replacing Vic then this comparison is pretty redundant.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2024 1:08 pmLet’s separate out a ‘fair fee’ from what is a good fee for us to pay in our current position.
A few days ago there was talk of Adeboyejo going and certainly on social media people were demanding several millions of pounds for him.
Vic and Aaron Collins are the same age more or less. Collins has more league goals albeit most of those the level below.
19 league one goals to Vic’s 25 though Collins scores at a slightly quicker rate than Vic.
Vic has played the level up and scored 5 in 50 up there. So factor that in.
Assists wise at this level Vic has 5, Collins 21.
I think it’s hard to make a case on the stats and situation that Collins is worth less in the market than Vic.
What that number is - I don’t know.
Losing an incumbent vs adding in another peak age player to the four strikers we already have on our books are completely different conversations.
And for Bristol they want to try and sell at market rate if they can. They don’t care that much how much he’s worth to us unless of course the end goal is a sale regardless, which it may be we don’t know.
The comparison is relevant given pretty similar stats and ages.

Iles has just tweeted that we've made a "pretty significant" bid. I assume that is our second bid and not the £600k one.

600k is an accounting valuation which represents his remaining wages, fees and loyalty bonuses.
We will rationalise it as them having signed him on a free and thus any fee representing profit.
£1m is probably his market value if there's competition, but at the moment it seems we're the only ones bidding. The fact they've leaked it to the local fish-wrapper means some of this is posturing for the fans and inviting competition.
There should be a middle ground in there with the remainder of the fee contingent on promotion.

I wouldn’t assume that from what Marc has said. £600k is significant - highest since Spearing?TonyDomingos wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2024 4:20 pmIles has just tweeted that we've made a "pretty significant" bid. I assume that is our second bid and not the £600k one.

The tone of Iles’ tweet would suggest to me that the deal isn’t happening at present.

We're not going to pay £1m, certainly.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2024 4:54 pmThe tone of Iles’ tweet would suggest to me that the deal isn’t happening at present.

But what if we did? Would certainly be a statement. And it could just be that Evatt sees him as being one of our 4 forwards for next season alongside Dion, Vic and Dan as I don't for a minute think JDB and Jerome will be kept around on a playing front, irrespective of the division we're in.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2024 4:55 pmWe're not going to pay £1m, certainly.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2024 4:54 pmThe tone of Iles’ tweet would suggest to me that the deal isn’t happening at present.

I don’t think spending money is the statement it’s getting a top player. Collins of last season would have been that but this season less so.sonicthewhite wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2024 5:01 pmBut what if we did? Woud certainly be a statement. I have no idea what his value would be and can rationalise a hefty fee and understand why BR would want that.
But is he someone I’d be convinced about us spending a million on? I dunno. Can’t say either way.
I hope ultimately that we add the players we need rather than chase a deal like this that ultimately leaves us without anyone. Especially given Ennis seems on the rocks.

The only statement almost doubling your original bid makes is, "Take advantage of me."sonicthewhite wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2024 5:01 pmBut what if we did? Would certainly be a statement. If BR still believe he's one the top players outside the Championship then they should be willing to make a section of the fees contingent on promotion.
For our part if we do get him for less than £1m we've played a blinder.
Whilst the selling club has the whip hand it's worth noting the player has downed tools and their manager is desperate to freshen-up their squad.
We may walk away tonight or tomorrow, no idea; but there looks to be a deal there.

Nixon’s just posted that the Ennis deal has “hit a snag”. Won’t be long before somebody copy-pastes.

Said "snag" being that Nicko has just read we've bid for another striker.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2024 5:11 pmNixon’s just posted that the Ennis deal has “hit a snag”. Won’t be long before somebody copy-pastes.

Geth has apparently been taken to hospital with a groin injury.

If that's true then we really need another CB and RWB.

Absolutely need another centre back but I assume we were going to do one of those next week anyway.sonicthewhite wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2024 5:42 pmIf that's true then we really need another CB and RWB.

If Geth is out for the season (apparently it looked a really bad one, though obviously no clue myself) then one may no longer be enough.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2024 6:08 pmAbsolutely need another centre back but I assume we were going to do one of those next week anyway.
God knows how far budgets will need to stretch and what knock-on that will have on other deals.
Hopefully it's just a scare.

Bare bare minimum is a centre back and a striker. I think any less and it’s a problem.
I’d like a centre mid too or a versatile MJ like type.

We could do with at least one registered for Blackpool. We can't afford another centre half breaking down now.
Seems very unlikely, but I live in hope.
