It'll help our transition to 5-4-1 sweeper!

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
IF we genuinely need more than 4 top line strikers to play the chosen system and style then it’s another indication the system is wrong. 4 strikers two places. It’s been enough forever. If it’s not for us we are sinking a lot of money into 5 strikers to have three sitting on the bench. And strikers mainly need to play. Having them banked up out of practice and form is not a good use of resources. It’s another reason why we must go 433 and then we can have more versatile forwards and more effective cover.
Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
Don't think its necessarily about the system being wrong. Figure the forwards are crucial to the press and can't sustain 90 mins so we need the rotation and we only keep that up without a good number of players up top. Personally I think that needs a Nolan type. Midfield and can stay up top if needs.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Wed Jun 12, 2024 8:57 pmIF we genuinely need more than 4 top line strikers to play the chosen system and style then it’s another indication the system is wrong. 4 strikers two places. If we are using two strikers primarily to press it limits what we can have in a striker and it also flogs your best two meaning that you are always going to bring on inferior players which is a problem if you need a goal.Mar wrote: ↑Thu Jun 13, 2024 9:09 amDon't think its necessarily about the system being wrong. If we go back to the days we played two up front and had four strikers we had as an example: Super John, Mixu, De Freitas and Coyle. They were four different types who offered different things. And indeed would get used in situations that suited them.
The issue with what we do is we are saying that 4 isn’t enough and we need more. But strikers need to play. It’s rare you find one brilliant at changing games off the bench - but those exist of course but not usual - and if the plan is to run our best two into the ground I feel that’s an issue right there. I think it’s fairly uneconomical to think we need more than 4 senior strikers in a squad where only two will ever play. By that argument we need five senior wing backs, 8 senior centre backs etc….
Yes you can get injuries but one cover per place given our resources surely has to be enough. And I think it’s the fact we are asking too much form strikers in terms of covering ground and also simply put that the strikers we’ve had beyond the top two haven’t generally been anywhere near good enough.

If they have to run themselves shitless for 70 minutes before getting a bath, then we need 4 per game. A couple of injuries and they then have to play 90 or we need at least one as cover...

What would be revolutionary is not playing the same tactics every game, potentially resulting in strikers not being subbed every 70 minutes. Could be an idea.
Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
I like this idea. I also like the idea of Charles not coming off on 60 mins.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Thu Jun 13, 2024 6:35 pmWhat would be revolutionary is not playing the same tactics every game, potentially resulting in strikers not being subbed every 70 minutes. Could be an idea.
Would keep the opposition wondering. We didn't have that last season. We all knew the goals were gonna dry up after 60 mins, especially in that early part of the season

I'd quite like when we bring a sub on the oppo think, oh shit, not him. Not, right then San Miguel and a beach hat for the rest of the afternoon.

Have to agree with this . Even the fans are rarely/never surprised by our game plan, never mind the opposition. It never fails to be fait acompli when we chase around for forty minutes then go a goal down, it's almost part of the script. Time to re-write the plot boss. I suppose we could disguise a sub as a sort of "Wooden Horse of Roy" or something and sit them on the edge of their box.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Thu Jun 13, 2024 6:35 pmWhat would be revolutionary is not playing the same tactics every game, potentially resulting in strikers not being subbed every 70 minutes. Anything to attain a win. Has Paris ever done archery?

Chris Forino-Joseph, the Wycome centre half, is a name flying around social media at the minute.
Big, strong, quick and good in the air. Good on the ball. Struggles with his fitness.
Seems like a very us signing.
Talented lad. Usual questions about how many games he'll be fit for.

Looks like he missed 40 days in spring. Was also absent for our 4-2 win down there with a "knock" - that's why Keogh was playing - and absent for the seaosn opener after being heavily linked with QPR.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Thu Jun 13, 2024 9:06 pmChris Forino-Joseph, the Wycome centre half, is a name flying around social media at the minute.

Played 30 league games this season and 30 the seson before, but this term 11 of them were as sub, which is an unusually high number for a centre-back. Looks like the manager would bring him on to protect a lead - although to be fair to the lad he did get back in the starting XI for Wycombe's late-season run of 13pts in 5 games.

Signing players who struggle to stay fit then complain about injuries….
We want battled hardened 40 games a season reliably over years centre backs. Who can take the kicks and give them back. Not ‘look nice on the ball’ but a chipped fingernail puts them out for weeks.

Perhaps we should build a Wishing Well at the side of Nat's statue at the Unibol ? Might raise a good few bob for a season or so. "Chuck your change in and wish" sort of thing. Next..

Aye, its ok having a couple of injury prones in your squad, but to stuff half the team with them is just plain stupid. Doesn't matter how good they are if you're having to play Dan or his equivalent 70% of the time in their place.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2024 8:21 amSigning players who struggle to stay fit then complain about injuries….

There's a degree of irony in citing Dan as cover for injury-prone playersAbdoulaye's Twin wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2024 10:32 amAye, its ok having a couple of injury prones in your squad, but to stuff half the team with them is just plain stupid.
