That's a very good signing, just in terms of "Are we showing ambition?"

Wasn't on my list, due to fitness concerns and the fact I thought he'd end up at Stoke. If another League One side signed him he'd be a "statement", though.

Nice! That gives us a choice of centre halves from:

Santos | Forino | Toal | Johnston | Forrester

Wing-backs Williams | JDC

With Iredale and Jones also able to fill or deputise for either positions above.

I know everyone has their own views on the quality of some of these, but I can't imagine may teams in League 1 looking at that - and with Baxter behind them - thinking we will be a push-over at the back!!!!

Something tells me this lad might mean Santos is off somewhere.

"Bolton Wanderers is". Decline.

That it's going to lose its mind
Be more kind, my friends, try to be more kind.

Could be the old trick of signing the replacement before selling the incumbent. Toal hasn't yet proved he's quite ready to step in.

Forino is right-footed so it's more pressure on Gethin's place. Good to get rolling, good to hear we've beaten others to the punch, good to hear him say things about non-nonsense defending. Welcome aboard mate and COYWM.

He's put up his own highlight reel for WW.

Some similarities with Santos however he seems to be able to score a couple with his head.

Looks like a very good signing. Wycombe fans largely gutted to see him go. A free transfer with huge potential to either thrive and move on up with us (fingers crossed) or sell on for serious cash.

Looks like a moneyball signing. Which is arguably sensible business.

Hopefully can do the job.

Maybe. I don't think we'd have got near him without his injuries this season and there were buyers there, so if he stays fit here we will probably feel we can make some money.

However, I do think he's a football signing first and foremost. He ticks a lot of boxes in terms of stuff we all felt we needed at the back.

He needs coaching, but we've shown we can do that.

If the plan is to keep Santos then this guy removes that big issue we've had of teams pinning Rico and bullying the lads either side of him. This guy bosses strikers.

If Rico is leaving then he's the profile of player you'd want to replace him with, which also means we now have viable cover for Santos (should he stay) if he's injured.

There are potential downsides. I've been really clear about how much injury records concern me. Putting that aside, though, it just looks like solid business.

Brother in law is a Wycombe fan: "Superb physical defender, very good in the air, quick. Cannot pass or move with the ball to save his life. Very much a no-nonsense centre back. He’s a good signing but don’t think he’d cut it in the championship if you went up. My opinion is a bit lower on him than most Wycombe fans to be fair."

If that’s the case and he’s not an overlapping centre half or a b tech baresi then it might signal a return to the 4 at the back…or at least the option to.

Germany showed last night the benefits of man marking and tough tackling and their parcel passing was always forward looking and incisive.. Lessons to be learned there.

Could well. Just generally it's probably a recognition that we lacked physicality in the defence any time Rico was out or playing hurt.

In his interview he essentially says he's a pure defender who wants to improve his ball-playing ability. Which I think is the balance most people would have gone with given the choice.

He seems to have the raw materials to play football. Times I've seen him he's been able to shift the ball off either foot and he can strike a ball.

What I should note is that it's not true he just plays in a back four, which a few people have said. He's played wide in a 3 quite a lot - both left and right. Playing wide in a 3 for Wycombe is not the same as for us, but still.

Just noticed he plays for St Lucia - so that’s another we’ll lose to long journeys on the international break.

Thought he hadn't decided who to represent yet as the BN says he qualifies for England, Italy and St Lucia?

He’s declared himself for St Lucia and been called up but not played yet.

I was going to say "wise choice", given his other options are Italy and England. However, Dunk is currently in the England squad and was just starting to establish himself in the Championship at around that age. So I suppose you never know.

A decent summary of our newly acquired defender from a Wycombe fan.
