What I find irksome is that we have players wanting to try something different. Kane dropping deep, Foden dribbling past 4 or 5, etc.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2024 11:08 pmIt's system. We have to do X, even though the game in front of us needs Y. Don't think for yourselves, play only to the player's spreadsheet strengths, regardless of what's actually happening, right in front of you. Can we kill it? And maybe yesterday?
Trouble is, these individual attempts are hindering Southgates already failing system. We need all the players on the same wavelength for it to work properly and it just isn't.
That's four games in a row where we've had it play out the same way.
This whole we've not managed to replace Phillips is a nonsense. Playing a RB there and consistently not using other players in friendlies probably highlights that.
Nows not the time to be testing out players.

Re: Your England XI
Watching, it felt like Plan B was to be better at Plan A. TAA doesn't seem to be working. My understanding was that the benefit of TAA would be in the attacking third but there's a bit of a flaw when you're so rarely in the attacking third, coz we're knocking it across a back 5 and losing it on an attacking pass.
Denmark are decent enough, but that was poor fare to watch. For most of the 90, they looked more likely. Not that they were a great watch, either. England probably got let off a bit on Sunday because we got three points, but if we're serving up tripe like that, 3 points is about the only way you get away with it.
I was just waiting on Southgate saying something like "we need to be braver with the ball"...

Re: Your England XI
Yeah, watched that.
You could almost use that for some of Bolton's poorer efforts in the sense similar things happen. Oxford minimised Santos to Sheehan so we then have to try a longer outball to a player not really comfortable or able to play with back to goal. Defender always looks favourite.
My main gripe is the response to it, but we seem to just watch it all unfold and hope that the Plan A subs are going to be better at Plan A than the starters - which to me would be a nonsense. That notion only really works for "fresh legs." Where Plan A is mainly working.

Re: Your England XI
Looks like Trent will not be in central midfield. Instead, it's Conor Gallagher. Which might bring some benefits in the press (such as it is) and ball retention, but no sign of a left-side fix.
Re: Your England XI
Might just be me, but I don’t really rate Gallagher, jumps in a bit too much for my liking and a bit flat footed. Liability when the last thing you want to concede are free kicks.

Re: Your England XI
I think it'll be an improvement, but I'm not thrilled as don't particularly rate Gallagher either. He's a central midfielder at least, so it's one fewer square peg, and he'll help with energy levels and the press which all the noises are they want to do but haven't been able to. The left side is still a worry though. Needs Foden to do a slightly different job. He's got the nous and the ability. You won't get as much out of him but the team needs it

If he's there to sort the press, he's going to have to get somewhere in advance of the skipper!

I'd be lying if I said the word Oxford haven't gone through my head either.
It's perverse. Rings of failing managers trying to prove everyone wrong rather than do the obvious thing. Once you can't work out a manager's theory of mine it's all over.

They need to engage brain rather that brainwashed.
Re: Your England XI
Started second half much better. Tough watch that first half and shades of the other games rather than an improvement.
Frustrated Southgates not rotating at least one of the men up top. As good as Foden has been I'm not sure he's been overly effective.
