Luke Southwood in.

Whilst it's a great signing I''m hoping it's for competition for Baxter and not a replacement!

I suspect given Baxter's performances last season there might be a few looking out for his signature. Given he had offers for higher up aswell there may have been some contractual wrangling for ensuring he had the ability to leave should we not get promoted.

Still. Sounds like a good signing. Hopefully Baxter stays.

From the sounds of it, the club look like they've decided to sort out the issue we had last season and not take the risk this season. Two first choice goalkeepers should make us extra competitive.

Signing a keeper we don’t need with a broken leg. It doesn’t get anymore Bolton than this.

On the flip side, we're now sorted keeper-wise for the next few seasons!

Now that's an interesting one. I wonder if that means Coleman is on the way out? I doubt it that he's here to replace Baxter.

And the key to a result is a good :kettle:

That would be a hell of a number 2 signing. Would very much like a Baxter signs new deal announcement soon.

Yeah interesting one that.

Sharon certainly pinned not going up on Coleman. Might have been told to find another back up. Baxter might be off - only got a year left. But yeah the injury is the most interesting bit - how did he pass a medical? Or do we not bother?

Iles: “Southwood was injured on the final day of the season in a game against Stevenage, with reports at the time suggesting he had broken his leg. Wanderers are confident, however, that the problem is not a serious one and believe the former Reading stopper can provide good competition.”

There's every possibility it might prove to be the case he is needed.

You judge the window at the end of August…

That being said I’d like our new captain in for pre season having read that Nathan Blake piece last weekend. Squad needs galvanising from the off.

Agree. We don't generally see the transfer window pan out in "order of importance" some deals gping to be easier than others.

Aye. Better players are usually harder to get, more in demand and thus slower to decide. Add in that better clubs than us - sorry, folks, they exist - will have their own shopping lists, and only when they're happy will they release players who could make a big difference to us.

That doesn't mean that June signings are shit and August ones excellent - very few things in life are that reductive, no matter what internet people might grunt. The two we've got so far are promising third-tier players out of contract, which makes sense. But if we want anybody from above our current station, it'd be a surprise if they arrived before the Olympics are over, let alone Wimbledon fortnight.

Cue the usual suspects. "But such a club have gotten this player who's so much better than what we've got already... lack of ambition... no chance next season... all Evatt's doing etc etc"

Maybe TW but at least we all seem to be in agreement about what we need.

I do think it'll be tougher to get autos this season than last. So when we make it, there should be more kudos for the job well done.

Attaboy.

I'm thinking you may have answered point 1, about blind optimism, TD. You'd have to have some sorta eye defect to go "well shit happens (on 5 grand a week)" 😀😀
