It goes way beyond just houses. Looking at major hubs and infrastructure blocked over ridiculous planning decisions in just the last few years….we need to unlock this.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Mon Jul 08, 2024 10:07 amThe opposition to mass housebuilding is not mainly coming from far left greens nor a few nimby Tories.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Mon Jul 08, 2024 9:51 amGreybelt. The bits of the green belt that are a mess. It’s cheaper for construction and realistically the only way to incentivise the mass building and infrastructure projects we need to get the economy moving. I’d have thought you’d be for this. Labour,
Covering fields near you with tacky, quick chuck up, not room to swing a cat new builds, soon.
No rules, remember the prefabs of the sixties, welcome to love to be a builder world.
Best of luck defining "greybelt" better than the developers will. They already drove a coach and horses through Places for Everyone, when it was supposed to be "greenbelt".
I don't agree it's the only way to incentivise mass building, nor necessarily that it actually will. The developers aren't stupid, they will not be complicit in tanking house prices - be it in the land value or the profit which is about 2/3rds of the value of a new build (of course they'll take anything out of development they can), but that's typically only a third of the price anyhow and they'll return as much of that saving to profit as they can.
The other way to incentivise mass building would be for us to build them ourselves, the ones we want, in the places we need them, using CPO if necessary. They'd soon start fcking ramping up on brownbelt then.
It's a poor policy, ill conceived. There might be something in "new towns" - dunno.
There are ways to do this without concreting over all our green spaces and I think they will do that.

You mean make Britain a sort of Botany Bay (perhaps Morecambe Bay) but no need to provide your own food?BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sun Jul 07, 2024 4:33 pm
We need to build more prisons and Labour will. But reducing reoffending is crucial because otherwise we will end up building prisons like crazy….
But I agree in principle. In effect incarceration used to be a feared deterrent to crime, but Alcatraz and Chateau D'if are history. Three square a day, mobile phones and television aren't quite in the same cell as bread and water. The bottom line is, that crime does pay and finding a way to change that is a major priority. It's hard to sympathise with governments, but in reality the public make many of the hurdles Westminster has to cope with. We (Britain) were once a role model for charity and humanity, but that was long ago and far- away. Like Dylan said, "The answer my friends, is blowing in the wind"
p.s. My question about National Security advisors was based on previous experience. As such, the total, new -brooming
philosophy is more than a little frightening.....is all.

I'll wait until I see some detail. But what I've seen thus far hasn't been too encouraging.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Mon Jul 08, 2024 10:12 amIt goes way beyond just houses. And no one seems able to tell me how they build decent affordable homes (you know, the 4x or 6x average salary) range - £120-£180k, because that maths just doesn't stack, wherever you put 'em.
It typically has not been "infrastructure blocked" by poor planning decisions. By far and a way, the get out has been as the plan develops, the developer pleads poverty and is allowed to get out of their infrastructure commitments made when the application went in - including the volume of "affordable houses" that weren't affordable by most measures in the first place.

Coincidence or?
Just got up at 7.00am
No electricity which means the router is ot, WiFi, no kettle, hot water off with the boiler out, thank the lord for the gas hob, even that had to be sparked with a cigarette lighter a brew at least.
It's not just mine either, everyone is out round here.
I seriously can not remember the last time the electricity died on us, strange, the commies are back in power and this happens.
Are they starting that certifiable loon Millipedes net zero already, he don't like you having bacon butties for breakfast.
Vote labour, get power cuts.

Re: 2024, hoodwink and bamboozle the public
A little bit soon to be looking for changes, surely? I have little good to say on politicians, but even the newest of new brooms need a test run before getting an M.O.T. Patience is a virtue,,,so they say.

We’ve seen the end point of your politics and it was horrendous. People did not want it. And rightfully so.Hoboh wrote: ↑Tue Jul 09, 2024 10:03 amAfter 8 years of some whinging about Brexit, exhausting the supply of the country's Kleenex, they are the ones who shouldn't worry about a bit of their own coming backBWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Jul 09, 2024 8:43 amAlways good to see the ‘we won you lost stop moaning brigade’ able to take their own advice…oh….
