Both would be good signings from what i saw last season.

Both strike me as fairly risky deals. Dembele potentially could be very exciting, but early days yet in his career. Mattee I have to say I’ve not been convinced by.Bertie Wooster wrote: ↑Mon Jul 15, 2024 7:16 pmIles in on something tonight, he's saying that we are after Dembele (ex Celtic, Blackpool loanee) and John McAtee.
Strange that he's putting these names out in public - has he been told something by the club ?

Yes I agree.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Mon Jul 15, 2024 7:19 pmBoth would be good signings from what i saw last season.
Must be something in these for Iles to come out with them tonight, he must have had permission from the club to post ? because if he hasn't and these don't happen because he has gone public too early and alerts other clubs then the club wont be happy with him

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
Dembele:
"Last month, Get French Football News (via L’Équipe) claimed that the attacking midfielder didn’t have a future at [Brest], with Les Pirates’ sporting director Grégory Lorenzi stating in an interview that he would be one of four players to part ways with the club this summer- despite being contracted until 2026."
8 goals and 13 assists in 39 third-tier games last season, usually played as a 10 or a 7. That's where he's spent the majority of his career, although he's also played left and up top. At Blackpool, per Transfermarkt, he got 12 assists in 22 games as a '10'. Still only 21.
McAtee:
Has also played across the front, but mostly as a striker (9 or 10 - he's 5ft 11). Loaned to Barnsley last season and, including playoffs, played 42, scored 12, assisted 5. Having been substituted more often than not, he had a goal involvement once every 169 minutes.
I quite like the sound of both of them. And, again, it feels like it might lend itself to formational fluidity.

Exciting stuff although we still need wingbacks.

“Sorted” might be a big strong Bertie but we definitely seem to be looking.

Dembele tore us a new one at their gaffe
In a world that has decided
That it's going to lose its mind
Be more kind, my friends, try to be more kind.

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
So the ‘targets’ Iles revealed last night are being used to ‘demonstrate our commitment to achieving promotion’ according to the Bolton News write up.
Which I assume is why the club were happy to have the stories out there.
This coupled to Neil Hart defending match day prices.
For me I don’t think they need to defend match day pricing as we all understand the economics of the game now and season tickets are still very reasonable. £30 to watch Bolton play Wrexham in tier 3 sounds a lot but equally those prices subsidise very cheap STs.

Not sure you have to be fully convinced in order to see McAtee as an upgrade on last season. If we consider McAtee as a replacement for Cameron Jerome then it would be a good deal towards getting us over the line.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Mon Jul 15, 2024 7:24 pmBoth strike me as fairly risky deals. Not overly aware about Dembele, so can't say much to that regard.

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
Dembele would be the Paris replacement. In pecking-order terms, McAtee would replace Bod rather than Jerome - although it's perhaps notable we haven't been linked with (m)any "9s" this summer. The closest Evatt got to a Plan B was sticking on Jerome and Bod and knocking it long, which rarely worked, so maybe the new Plan B is about shifting shape rather than shoving it in the mixer.Mar wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 11:08 amNot sure you have to be fully convinced in order to see McAtee as an upgrade on last season. Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
Quite possibly. Seems like we've got a lot of the same sort of players on the pitch as i'm seeing Klaidi Lolos as more of the same that we get from Nlundulu, Charles, etc. rather than being a flick on merchant.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 11:29 amDembele would be the Paris replacement. I think that spending transfer fees on players and saying ‘an upgrade’ on Jerome is not really my issue.Mar wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 11:08 amNot sure you have to be fully convinced in order to see McAtee as an upgrade on last season. If we are spending money it has to be someone to improve the team not just to bulk the squad out. I accept that clearly you need a squad - but I just haven’t been that impressed with Mcatee when I’ve seen him. Feels to me like a bit of ‘neither one thing nor another’ type.
My view is that if we are getting something else up front it should be a 6ft8 chaos inducer - what we lacked at the end of games last season for me is an option to just throw it long or into the box and force a team to look at it a bit differently. Bod and Jerome in truth were seen as that option but both had careers running the channels not backing in.

Just checking in post-Euros and pleased to see Insano requesting a ‘6ft 8 chaos inducer’.
As you were, gents.

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
I don’t really think we need another striker. If we are getting one then for me they have to offer something very different to what we’ve got. The only thing I don’t think we really have is a fully fledged massive lump who could impact games late on. With the quality we could put round such a player I think it could help salvage some points .
Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
If Marc Iles has caught up with the story then we've probably enquired and the ship has sailed.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Mon Jul 15, 2024 7:24 pmBoth strike me as fairly risky deals. Possibly. We usually sub both off and we have 4 and an injured CMG...Long as you're happy 20 minutes is Dan and probably Vic, all gravy...BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 1:36 pmI don’t really think we need another striker. Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
Per Darren Witcoop – a usually decent source – there have been offers for Dembele from Wednesday, Derby and Pompey (as well as club-confirmed interest from us). So clearly those higher-division clubs were happy to carry the risk. Which is less good news for us.DJBlu wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 3:40 pmIf Marc Iles has caught up with the story then we've probably enquired and the ship has sailed.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Mon Jul 15, 2024 7:24 pmBoth strike me as fairly risky deals.
